BUKOLIK FREERIDE: 29th 30th 31st and 1st august, Switzerland

Dear foreign fellows,
For the third time, the BUKOLIIK freeride will take place in the glamourous place of the swiss riviera, near Montreux and the Geneva Lake, Switzerland. Three days of riding, starting on the friday night party and ending with a monday night party, isn't it nice?
As you know, freerides events are getting stronger everywhere in Europe, and the Bukolik is the second biggest of them all in term of participation (nearly 200), and the first in term of quality and originality.
Why: because the whole event is based in "Les Avants", the former prefered swiss resort of the british and european jet-set some 80 years ago, apart of St-Moritz. There used to be some strong foreign teams at the bobsleigh and skeleton races held there, including world and continental championships. From this era only stayed the souvenirs, a very nice town (which hasn't changed much) and...a funicular to bring the tourists (and the bobsleigh as well) up the hill!
This year, the event will be 3 days long, as the swiss national day is on monday 1st august. So with a great and very technical 2,5km road, some great food, cheap prices (the beer is VERY cheap), you'll get a taste of what Switzerland is all about (no, not only money-laundering!): RIDING AND PARTYING!
We will organise some "secret" sessions on a special and secured spot in a beautiful resort in the Alps from thursday the 27th for those who can't wait! (video: http://www.longboarding.org/viewvideo.php?id=24). A lot of riders will even arrive sooner to ride some beautiful passes in the area (there's tenth of roads with at least a 1000 meters steep and 10 km ratio in Switzerland!!)...
We would be glad to welcome and take care of all the foreign riders. We'll get some extended TV coverage all along the week-end, as well as swiss radios from the french and the german part, regional TV's, national newspapers and blah blah blah...;-)They'd be very interested to meet you guys, as our concept reposes as much on the ecological than on the "time travel experience" sides... and because we need some support against the french troops too!
For the foreigners, we can only encourage you to susbscribe to the Chamrousse event the week before (biggest freeride in the world with over 500 riders a week, all infos on www.riderz.net) and to join us in les Avants three days later.
There's some great accomodations in the area, or a free camping too. Geneva airport to Montreux is only a one-hour drive, but it's better to go by the rail, as you can take train from everywhere in Switzerland to Les Avants (the train station is only 20 meters far from the subscription office!!)...
Get informed and suscribed on www.bukolik.ch !
See you soon!

me and a buddy are tryin to organize a mass skate in portland. soon the city should be covered with our flyers. you can find out everything we've got figured out so far at www.ptownthrowdown.com if you've never skated portland, i highly recommend it. the city is basically a hill with infinite runs, and the traffic, slow moving but generally pretty dense, always makes things a little more interesting. But, with enough skaters, traffic won't be much of a concern. so come out of your respective holes and show the longboard's presence in Portland. i'll keep this thread updated with information as it comes. if you plan on coming or are interested, SPEAK UP!

The course is about 6.7 miles long, I believe, and it's the loop roadway in Central Park that is closed off to vehicular traffic on wknds. The race is held nontheless in one of the most beautiful urban parks in the world....and you share this 2-lane wide roadway w/bicyclists, strollers(lot of them), kids, parents, walkers, runners, joggers, scooters, dogs, even the occasional monkey or python. Just beware at intersections and crosswalks(lots of them too)....yes, there are hills to push up or walk up if you run out of steam and to bomb on the descents. A fun time to be had whether you go for first place or try not to be in last place. A couple yrs ago I think it was Ian's Dad who shot some of the race on video....I think the winner has always won it in less than 25 minutes, closer to 21 minutes, eh, Ian? Do you recall?? Anyways, Ian and the NY Longboarding Assn are a group of skaters who are into spreading the stoke of urban skateboarding...a great bunch of people.....a COLD beer never tasted so good after that race! Cheers!! I hope to see you there this yr. though I may not be able to walk afterwards!

Seattle Solstice Skate - distance longboarding

Seattle Solstice 26-mile marathon! Longboarding from Redmond to Seattle, June 19th -- you game? If that sounds a bit gnarly, there is also a 13-mile option, and this event is as mellow or fast as you make it. Both starts are @ 8 a.m. - follows the scenic flatland Sammamish trail, along Lake Washington, then links up to the Burke-Gilman trail through north Seattle, through the University district and ending with a bang at the raucous Fremont Solstice Parade!
IF eight or more longboarders sign up, a 5-foot Flexdex Pro60 deck goes to whomever crosses the finish line first! (excluding myself and Munson...) and other schwag for 2nd/3rd place finishers. And if most people sign up for the 13-miler, then we'll skip the 26 and all start at the same line - its a 13-mile sacrifice we're more than willing to make. If we don't have many racers, we'll save the prizes for the NEXT marathon this summer (same path) -- on July 31st.
The ride / rules: Basically flat, slight inclines and declines. The 13-miler should take about 80-90 mins and the 26-miler takes about 2.5+ hours. We're doing this as a 'longboard event within an event' as the original organization is by an inline skate group so the timing system and organization is all taken care of. Helmet required, other protective gear recommended. Wear loose comfortable clothing. Lycra/Spandex results in automatic DQ. Just be conscientious of intersections and potentially lot of other trail traffic (bikers, strollers, etc plus all the other skaters) -- its a long trail so the pack gets spread out quickly after the start line rush.
Register online @ www.promotionevents.com -- go to 'Events / Seattle Solstice Skate' Cost: Approx. $33 with processing fee, event t-shirt guaranteed with registrations before June 10th.
This lands on the same 6/19 date as 'Slalom from Mars' down in Salem, Oregon - but if you can't make it down there, then drop a line!

Skateboarding not allowed on UC Santa Cruz campus? That sucks. I hope you come up with some effective ways to change that. At least don't piss off the school. Often I get away with skateboarding on campuses that don't allow it, after a simple explanation that my board has no kicktail and therefore "won't be leaving the ground".
