1) Great idea, and sounds amazingly like something I was discussing with McCree this weekend. If you want this sport to grow, it will need a sanctioning body, independent of race promoters, that will provide for races to be run nationwide at varying levels of competition. Kind of a local/regional modified, Grand National, Busch Series, Winston Cup type thing to use an automotive analogy. Sounds like the USSSF could (and should) be this body.
2) We all know there are some people who don't like Brady. Fine. Do us all a favor and stop the BS. Yes he has been to races. I've got the pics to prove it. Maybe not as many as others. So what, we can't all be such huge super racing studs as "Slalom Racer" and the other anonymous COWARDS are. Do us all a favor...ignore his posts if you don't like him and shut the #@!* up. It's old...

To answer your question...yes I`ve been to races. Didn`t travek much this year for personal reasons.
Dang, don`t that sound like I`m arguing with an anon poster on da `puter? I shoulda known better...
As for the suggestions being made race day...not the proper time and all the more reason for the USSSF

This has been tried ofton at races but seems to fall on deaf ears by promotors, I guess you wernt listening at the races when the racers have suggestions, oh wait have you ever been to a race before?

Obviously Adam`s new guidelines on post rating went on deaf ears. I am the one who posted the "informative" rating on Don O`shei`s post. Though I don`t agree with him, I think it`s best to have all antagonistic veiwpoints discussed up front so that they may be answered and those objections be addressed and worked out.
Those that posted the "Abuse" ratings are misusing the rating system. Don`s post was a valid one. Not the least abusive. Just some weenies exacting their anonymous justice. Hopefully soon Adam will take their abilty to rate a post away, if not ALL access to the site (JMHO)

The USSSF will probably never be able to be all things to all people at all times, but the possibilities and potentials for such an organization are nearly limitless.
Everything won't happen immediately either. It is not, and never will be, the intention of the USSSF to foist anything on anyone. A team of chartering directors was gathered, based on a very wide range of selection criteria, with the intent of providing the best, most balanced start possible for a truly national organization and I feel that the team is an impressive one. However, every seat on the Board of Directors will be subject to election by the membership (in regions for Regional Director seats) on a rotating basis across the next three years. Therefore, in a relatively short period of time, business-wise, all decisions made for and about the USSSF will be made by fairly and duly elected representation.
It is also not the intent of the USSSF to come sweeping in and tell race promoters how to run their races. Eventually the USSSF will try to produce a set of rules and maybe some recommended event guidelines, but that is all some ways off. It'll take time for the organization to elect a Rules Committee, and more time for that committee to assess the opinion of the community, arrive at their conclusions, and test the final results. In the meanwhile, the experimentation, creativity and trial and error that are currently being pursued by race organizers at all levels is valuable for the chances it takes and the results and comments created.

After talking with you at length at Morro bay, I am happy to see this group get together and start creating a nationwide foundation for the continuation of this sport.
I was extatic to see all the old skater buds at the races. but when the old boys take to the sidelines- who will we be watching?
We know the IASC does nothing for us.
Remember, you might as well not make baseballs and bats if there is no little league, minor league, major league or the world series.
Let's make it work this time.

The USSSF looks like a long time coming, Does this mean that the racers might have some type of input at races ie: Course Layout, Qualifying, making suggestions or will we continue to be told by promotors "If you got a problem with the way we run our race then hold your own F%CKING race"

I have to say I find something fundamentally disturbing about the "USSSF". I have yet to hear a persuasive case made for an organization of this sort. To have it presented in this fashion with the officers selected without real input (at least I've had none) does not make me feel inclined to ignore my natural distrust of these sorts of organizations.

The U.S. Slalom Skateboarding Federation (USSSF or “U, Triple S, F”) is a nationwide, non-profit sport development and sanctioning body that will commence its’ first membership year on January 1, 2003. The primary purpose of this organization is to build a sport with a solid athletic foundation and positive public image, rooted in the best principles of fair competition and good sportsmanship.
The USSSF is, first and foremost, a representational body. There will be a variety of membership options available, voting and non-voting, priced to invite the involvement of slalom skaters of all skill and interest levels. The opinion of that community, as represented by the voting members, will always be of the highest priority in driving forward the USSSF and the sport of slalom skateboarding.
While the finer points of the direction for this organization are still open to the refinement that will come from the voice of the voting membership, it has already been decided that the U.S. will be divided into regions, each represented by a Director on the Board of Directors. In these regions the USSSF will foster and/or support vigorous development programs and regular, local, reasonably accessible learning and racing opportunities. While these racing opportunities will not be restricted to members of the USSSF, those who have chosen to support the USSSF with their membership dollar will find discounted registration fees at all participating, USSSF-sanctioned events.
The nature of an organization such as the USSSF presents many other potential benefits to the slalom skateboarding community. So many of the issues routinely discussed on this and other websites, like rules standardization, spec class racing, national championships, timing systems, inclement weather policies, dealing with insurance issues and local governments, event guidelines and even travel and accommodation discount programs are best handled by a true, non-profit sport association operating through a system of elected representation.
THEREFORE… At this time I would like to announce that the U.S. Slalom Skateboarding Federation is seeking major financial contributors who are interested in permanently and indelibly marking themselves into the archives of this effort, by becoming involved with our Charter Membership Program. Charter Membership is about giving the USSSF the best, most financially sound start as is possible, and as such, is a high-dollar, limited time offer. Those individuals, companies or organizations who risk the most, right at this moment, when trust is the only reassurance available, will find themselves permanently listed in all major publications of the USSSF, in perpetuity. The Provo downhill posse is a group of hardcore longboarders, or those that aspire to be so, based out of the Provo, Utah area. We're all about riding huge hills and spreading the love of longboarding. We want to get as many people up in the mix as possible so if your in the Provo area or anywhere in Utah for that matter drop us a line and we'll skate. I'm looking for some GRS types that would be interested in being a part of some of the grass roots street events that WFSA and SPAUSA are planing for 2003 in the Santa Barbara, Ventura, LA and Orange Counties. There are still a number of small events left for this year that GRS could be a part of in preperation for next year.
The next possible event would be this Saturday October 26th at Lafayette Park in West Los Angeles.

For those who don't know, B.A.S.S. stands for Boston Area Slalom Sessions. Two guys, myself (Matt aka. vasocreta), and Jim S. (lot33), have been meeting regularly in and around the Boston area to learn to slalom. We have had quite a few sessions so far, and we have typically met on Wednesday evenings at 6 PM, and skate until around 8:30-9:00.
So far, the sessions have been pretty good. Duane Delaney joined us for a while until his Wednesday schedule prevented him form continuing. However, Jim and I are looking to move the day to the weekend so that we can maximize on our daylight hours and hopefully accomodate more peoples' schedules.
Until this date, our focus has been to get better as slalomers. This has worked much more rapidly for Jim, though I have made improvements too. However, we have begun to talk about how to make BASS grow. As a first step initiative to spread the "gospel of slalom", I have decided to create a brochure which outlines a little bit about our sport. This way I can give people who stop and ask what we are doing something to take home with them. Maybe the kids will see it and want to give it a try, or maybe dad or mom will see it and remember their teenage years, go into the attic and pull out their old decks.
I will not try to put any expectations on this initiative except that it be a mechanism for educating others about slalom. I will be sure to make this brochure available as a freely distributable PDF download from the BASS Web page once it is finished.
So, if you are ever in the Boston area, just go to the BASS site, get the contact info and give either Jim or myself a call. We want BASS to be the Boston area hub for slalomers, new and old!

You know winters here can be + or - 50 degrees, so it should be possible. There's a nice indoor skatepark up in Mundelein that we ride sometimes (CFavaro and I live closest and seem to get there more often). But shoot me a line when you head to the midwest, we'd love to have ya.
I leave 12/20 for Tucson and get back 12/31-doing some longboarding this Christmas in the Southern AZ mountains!
