Josh- I suggest that you visit Click here for link for link and look at their vast variety of longboard wheels. You'll find something that you'll like. If you are looking for controlled slides, go with radiused wheels. If you want more traction and grip, stick with sharper cornered edges. Whatever you choose, make sure your wheels of choice have center hubs. With that long of a deck, you can get away with a wheel in the 69-75mm size range. Good luck and have fun.

Great to hear that Ellen Oneal is out there! I remember you daffy'ing in Columbus, Ohio with Russ Howell. I was one of those '70's guys doing slalom and freestyle. I actually beat Russ's 360 record at one point (and quickly surpassed). It was great seeing girls ride - such grace and style. You and Laura Thornhill really exuded relaxed style. I wished more girls skated then, but I'm happy to see more girls skating now. Just did a midwest skatepark tour with my son this past week & was stoked to see so much great skating. Of course, I had to pump my G&S fibreflex around each park to stoke the young kids. The '70's to me was the best period of skating in my lifetime - and I've been skating since '75. Thanks for the memories!

Iraq .....Skateboarding....Gulf War ....whats that got in common?

Here's the story and the answer........
On June 16th 2003, as a middle aged forklift salesman from the UK, I got a letter from our beloved Ministry of Defence telling me that I have three weeks notice to leave my job and go to Iraq with compulsory mobilisation as a Part Time soldier.
So whats this got to do with skateboarding I hear you ask.
After being mobilised, I got married to my partner of 18 years, and went to Iraq, months later I came home for a one week holiday and went to A skatepark in Birmingham, England for a carve round the bowl with my eight year old son (who is a better skater at 8 than I ever was)..... and....I slipped and broke my wrist carving.
So that I wouldn't get in the s#@! in Basra, I made up a story about breaking it on the way back and flew back out again to Iraq to finish my tour......
Two years to the day after all this and much more interesting stuff..I am proud to say that my book 'Iraq and Back' has just been released.
In there I have dedicated a section the the joys of seeking out the hallowed concrete from back in the day with a more than just a mention about being a middle aged skateboarder with a memory far stronger than my ability to ride like I used to in the 70's. As I think about it,.....I must be the only soldier who go medically air evacuated from Iraq for a skateboarding accident.
It's a cheap plug I know but hey.... I gotta sell em !!!!
Just take a minute to check it out at :
www.iraqandback.co.uk
Thanks in advance for your support Phil Woodhall

Helpful information on how to get a community skatepark at:
http://tachyon.liquidweb.com/~jetfox/cgi-bin/cgi/clickthru.cgi?id=penelopepitcrew
Go to Sports section, then click on "Getting a skatepark".
Has really good instructions on how to get help from the community, including petitions, fundraising, even on approaching the city. Think it's a great tool if anyone's interested!
