While running some cones with the Outlaws this weekend. I attempted to foot brake very quickly got the wobs and slammed on the left side of my body at about 25mph +. Thanks to Pro-design pads and my Pro-Tec Helmet which took the brunt of the hit. The fall woke me up in a way, I was getting to comfortable, pushing it to the edge. Nothing broken just road rash and a bit embarassed. Eddy Texas Outlaws.

I was going down maryhill riding a board withe big wheels cutouts so they donT rub the trucks are dropped the the board. I put my hand over the front truck area as I was trying to go from standing to sitting for some dumb reason and the wheel sucked my glove then finger into the spinning "flywheel". the wheel locked up and skid on the finger like it does on a rock with hard wheels. I was going pretty fast then got pitched. busted three of the seams on my zipper open and hit my head pretty good...with a helmet but its way better now going to do it agoain next weekend ;o).

Well now, that's attractive. The moving parts of a longboard you say? I just don't understand unless you had flywheels and stuck your finger in the rims at about 30 mph. What were you doing? (I'm sorry about your finger, I hope it grows back.)

Speed Wobbles: They basically suck but are part of riding. When I get a major case of them and get that feeling I am going to bust I basically have to make a big decision to either try to run it out or drop down in an a crouch from which I can drop to my knees and my slide gloves. (I never ride anything that could have a potential speed wobble causing crash...yeah, I know, I am pads and helmet nerd but so what...).
Seimic trucks have not wobbled for me at all. I have either not gone fast enough to cause it or that they are just that good. I am not sure. My Randall II's will wobble at pretty high speeds but they are on a 58" board that is overall pretty stable.

Roll on Brothers and Sisters! Roll On. Wobbling all the way!

speedwobbles are just bad, and there is nothing to dtop them but ride it out, or tightening your brushings(although this just means that you'll just speedwobble at higher speeds :P). If you are paying attention to your ride, you can try and keep your balance, but they are pure evil, so dont keep your hopes up. I find i get them most while straight-lining, so try to carve a lot. Anyone else know more?

Wow, after reading these stories, it makes me very happy that for my husband's birthday his parents bought me a helmet.
I've had 2 very bad crashes:
1) The "I'm just wanna skate for a minute" crash. NEVER say this. I was a block or so from my house, my husband has just gotten his 1st comet, 42" I believe, and I was on my trusty 36" park board. We were going to bomb this little hill, real quick, we had both just gotten off work. We weren't on a big hill, we weren't going very fast, but I noticed two cars, one coming toward me, and one stopped at a side street stop sign, watching. I wanted to get out of the street, and I panicked, and tried bailing, running out. Both knees, both hands, and my belly were torn to shreds. My pants ripped so badly... I had a belly button ring, and the metal ground up and had to be removed quickly. As I lay there, I decide to crawl up onto the curb and into the grass of someone's yard. The car headed toward me just rolled past, the one at the stop sign stopped to see if I was ok. My husband was 30 yards away, riding next to my board, wondering where I had gone. He came back for me in our car, as I could not walk or skate back home.
2) The "One Last Run" crash. Never say this either. My husband had gotten into making custom longboards, and he had finally made one I deemed beautiful. It was the stealth bomber of longboards. It was sleek, black, with chrome lettering that stated "Skeeter Beater: Pollen Pistol kateb ards." I was stoked, it rode well (even without griptape... yes, I said WITHOUT GRIPTAPE). I was taking a last run downhill, and he had pushed off ahead of me, and I wanted desperately to catch up with him and pass him at the bottom. I pushed hard, hunkered down low on the board, and right where the transition in the road went from a light downhill grade to a much steeper drop, I felt something horrible happening that happened with such speed it took me a while to understand what had happened. My back foot slipped off the board, and onto the back wheel. My concern, stupid, stupid me, was the board my dear husband had put so much effort into, damn him for not gripping it. I was already close to the ground and didn't expect to feel so much pain, but I kept that board from going anywhere, and I don't know how. I fell quite hard on my knees, my right knee bearing an ugly scar to remind me... Shane Causey, who I skate with, saw it and came running, telling me I needed to stay off it and put ice on it immidiately. I was afraid my meniscus (sp?) was torn, so I sat on the skeeter beater and buttboarded downhill to where the car was parked, to the cooler, and put ice on it. I couldn't stand on it for a week without it blowing up the size of a grapefruit. My knee starts to ache every once in a while still, definately happy I have finally acquired knee, elbow, wrist guards, and a helmet.
P.S. Someone explain to me the mechanics of stopping speed wobbles, that viddy was sick.

Check out this bust! Note to self: Beer, skateboards, and spandex don't mix.
This was on the "The Gong Show with Kenny "Nature Boy" Mollica" forum and I thought it was appropriate for this site....Not sure who the rider is but damn, dude, what a bust!

On 9/7/2004 tom meakin wrote in from United Kingdom  (84.66.nnn.nnn)

it was a nasty overcast english day, fresh after raining the night before. I was enjoying the school holidays, and had to go to the dentists for an appointment about my braces. I set out on my slalom board (my longboard from bozi hadnt arrived and still hasnt 10 weeks after ordering) for the 4 miles through the park to town, and on the first hill realised that it had been bin day the day before and some ppl hadnt taken their bins in. Therefore i had to go at 5 mph down the whole thing, as traffic was heavy and i couldnt get past the bins. Oh, and i realised that my batteries were dead in my cd player i had with me(badness #1+2).
Then it started to rain (bad #3).
As i was going at running speed along the side of the main road (flat), some punk-ass old f**k pulled out of their drive without looking, causing me to swerve and take a hit on the floor, gouging a hole in my hand. By the time i had reached the park entrance, this wound had produced enough blood to drip off in the wind and give me a nice long patch of blood on my jeans and shirt. (bad #4).
Ok, i thought, now all i have to do is get to the dentists through the park.I pushed uphill for 2/3 mile on really bad road to the top of the one hill worth riding within 10 miles. I carved a bit, then speedtucked through the speedwobble, then i saw a family emerge at the bottom of the hill with two dogs and a child, all running aroumd. I decided that i should probably stop/slow a bit, and by this time was going just less than 30 mph. I stood up, and started to footbrake, lowering my speed to wobble range. So, there i was, one foot on a slalom board with speed wobble, one on the ground, going at 25 mph. I ended up thinking how quickly i could get low to the ground and slide off when i realised i was in the air. I tried to run, but it doesnt really work at more than twice your running speed, so i woke up on the floor, looking at a patch of red about 20cm across(~8 inches) about 2 metres up the slope. i later realised this was where the back of my head hit the floor, leaving a wound 1.5 inches diameter so my skull was visible. ow. The people i was stopping for came up , and i was like, 'ye im fine, im just going to the dentists', not realising i had blood pouring down my head and onto my back. Later in hospital i checked my wounds (they had called an ambulance), and discovered road rash on both arms and a rather nasty patch the size of my handspan on my hip.
It is healed now, and the only thing good about it was that i now have a heart-shaped scar on my right arm from the roadrash.
Hope you enjoyed the story :P

Seth,I hope that you weren't Almost a Victim of Fashios in that wipeout. I've seen many a Skater (and Snowboarder!) that FORGOT TO FASTEN The CHINSTRAP!!! As the snowboard Coach that brought "The Helmet Kids" onto the Snowboard Scene back in the Early 90's -(that's {Abe,one of Hana's older brothers}Teter,Pertraska,Beck, the Brothers Wilson,Spiro,J. Kelly, and Yetz)-,I KNOW the value of a proper helmet. However, they're WORTHLESS if they don't FIT,or if you're thinking the Chinstrap is Redundant. It isn't. In Skateboard land,it's even more important,as what you're Likely to IMPACT on is somewhat harder than just Noreastern Hardpack, although the ICE in my area is pretty stiff,It ain't No Curb. Domes save lives for those with enough intellect to be worried about Preserving it!

Well I was longboarding all day with my friend and we had been bombing some pretty good sized hills. When i bombed down one hill though there was a t section at the end where a buncha cars go through. So i decided I would right halfway across then turn. I ended up hitting the curb and flying off my board head first into the curb. My Helmet popped off soon as i hit the ground, but luckily i didnt hit it again. I ended up with two sprained wrists, and a hurt ankle, and i had roadrash all the way down my back. My ankle wasn't too bad though so i just got back on and kept bombing hills, i couldnt bend either of my wrists though or two weeks. So always tighten your helmet and carve early.

you're boy just caught a hardcore case of wobble...next time, tell him to tighten up his trucks, relax and try to work out those wobbles, and keep your weight over the front truck.

My homeboy was bombing with his new Sector 9 38" Cosmic 2 longboard and the flex of the cambered board created an increasing wob that, in moments, resulted in an ugly wipeout. Dude was, like, bouncing, from side to side, as though he was on a trampoline or something. What's this phenomenon called and how's it avoided?

We had a really sick wk end.Yea tedi its just to bad that this is the only thing I have in common with you it would be nice to have your riding style or somethingelse. When I hit the deer it got all twisted and fell over then I think it started to get up and stumble around. We were drafting so close even touching as we hit the deer in a line of four and another not far behind. The nice family that was as shocked as I was offerd water and some support as we rolled around on the pavement as we checked for broken bones. Each road rash was verry uniqe. I will give Deano the award for the best road rash. Looking at him made me forget about mine for a bit as a laughed and grinned. (lets just say he lost one of his gloves soon after impact)

A different perspective...
The hill was great. Bike trail, butter smooth, train tunnels and miles long.

This was an early morning session, about 10 am. We had just finished the big breakfast and our hangovers were waining.

We had walked to the top of the first hill and ripped through the train tunnels and life was good. The fog from sat night was lifting. There were five of us in the group, Mennis, the Hornet, NIc the HOod, portland dave and yours truely.

We started out the run with nic and the mennis taking the lead and setting the pace, dave was next. I started out last and quickly dropped into the Hornets draft, he reached out hid hand and we pushed each other down the hill. We just pulled out of nic and mennis's draft and pulled ahead of them when...

BAM!!!

I saw two eyes and a big brown ass upclose as teh hornet clips the hindquarter of this beast and goes down pulling me with him. Nic rolles over my hand, pulls my glove off, gets the wobbles and goes down taking dennis with him. Dave was the only one to weave through traffic and come out unscratched.

Besides the road rash on the forearms, thighs, calves and the back of the hand, my shoulder doesn't work the way it used to and my hand is swollen twice its normal size.

I still have a warm spot for that deer...

ON MY F#@$IN BBQ!!!!!

it goes like this . I went to the gorge games this weekend to watch some slolom and gs rasing. Our crew found a hill/ a bike path about 10 12 feet wide in a vally so you could rip both sides. it was a sick spott you could get mobbin and it dropped you into a tunnul with concrette pillers and as youd ripp passed theyed go "whoosh whoosh whoos' it was so cool...any how back to the story. We woke up this mornig and wanted to ripp it before heading to mayhill and the home. As wee bomb the fastest section of the path we were linin up and combining momentums of two and three people to get just movin out. So were crusin along at a clean 60-65kph out of know where a deer jumps onto the path. everything goes slow...I see deano drafting Sean to my left and nick in front of me as the deer runs across in front of sean and dean. and then booom. theyu boths hit the deer and spiill over into nick and my lane nick clips deanos hand just enough to gett some wobs and lays it out in front of me. So I try goin wide to the right into the gravel but at 45kph gravel wasn't trtackin up and I went down. All of us suffered severe road rash. I just got done taking the shower of truth. oooohhh it hurt cause I almost shaved my nipple off and now its all swollen. The deer was hit so hard by the two of them it fell down but it got up faster than anybody and was gone. All of this happen in front of a family. What a site that had to be five guys rippin in a pack and then havin a deer just get pummeled buy them. Funny s#@!. skatin ripps. This was all in moiser oregon one hour outside of portland.
