Me and my friend were carving down some hills in the rich neiborhood in my town the other day. He had been longboarding for a few months, but it was my first hill ever on my homemade deck. I was carving, but i guess my trucks were too loose and i got viscious wobbles, lost control, and fell, at first flying like superman but then rolling into a curb (the bottom of the hill was perpindicular to a road). I chipped the hell out of the nose of my board, and scraped my elbow pretty bad. That was my first big crash. Does any one know how to control speed wobbles? I tightened my trucks but now i can't carve as well.

Well I got a new longboard. The only one of it's kind. Built by my luge buddy Bama Harmen. He calls it a Bodyrocket. It is longer than most boards and made from aluminum. Indy 215 trucks and some hard wheels. Was butt-boarding with it this morning on the baby hill. 15 mph tops. Well I didn't realize how hard the wheels were so I carved this corner and the next thing I know the asphalt is burning my ass. Right through the jeans (wal mart crap). After picking pebbles out of my butt and putting on lots of cream I went back. Wearing the leathers this time. Carved the corner perfect and the board didn't come out from under me this time. It was fun...painful but (butt) fun.

I was cruising down a small hill going about 5 miles an hour. I did not notice the small pebels of gravel because it was dark. The S-9 stopped dead in its tracks and I flew head first right into a curb. Being very stupid, I was not wearing a helmet and the last thing I remember was waking up in the hostpital room. I had two skull fractures and a concusion. It sucked because they filled me up with all kinds of drugs and I acted like a vegetable. I will always wear my helmet. Matt Laurell-Santa Rosa, CA

A few weeks ago, i was cruising with my bro in this neighborhood. We were going down this wide sidewalk and were approaching another street. I decided to ride onto the grass with my S-9 supercruiser with xt offroad wheels. My brother on the other hand only had some small 65's or something. So he decided to jump in to the grass. when he jumped into the grass, his board shot out into the street. luckily no cars were nearby. I started chasing it down but couldn't catch up. It hit the gutter and started rolling down it. Then, it shot into a storm sewer-ooohhhh shit-- Well, being good boyscouts, i pulled my truck key out of my pocket and was able to pry up a manhole cover. I crawled down into the sewer and ran down it and got the board back. Ever since then the board has been called the sewer rat. Happy cruisin-Gentle ben

I was on this hill by a friends house and a Suburbin was driving right at me. So I paniced and slid my foot and gloves on the ground until I came to a complete stop. But before that I almost ran into the middle of my friends board. We were two inches away from each other. But we didn't hit, thank you very much. So be careful people and don't get hurt. PLEASE!

Well Mr. Safety went down. Riding my new board (built by Tannis Watson). I put Z-Rollers and Cherry Bombs on it. Well I didn't tighten the trucks up because I was in a hurry to get to the hill before dark. Then while riding I was in a hurry to get off the board the thing was wobbling so much. Tightened the trucks and the next ride was very smooth. ANyway while dismounting into a rose bush I had a spectator. Yep A cop. Luckily we went to school together and lectured me about my age and brain capacity. Then we had a laugh and went on our seperate ways. When I took my helmet off I thought he was going to die from laughing so hard. I was the class brain and no one ever thought I would end up riding skateboards. Oh well.

Hey To All! Sorry for anyone that had to endure my entry yesterday. You have witnessed first hand what a last period high school study hall can produce. What a state of boredom! It was deleted, and rightly so, so perhaps you were spared, though I was not, of my embarrassment. So sorry again to any that I offended. Lateron ~Normal Matt

Pennsylvania is a big place but years ago friends of my family had a summer house at "Gold Key Lake",somewhere in the poe-can-nose. The hill right in front was huge and freshly paved they had maps of the development with those topographic lines on it and the hill was continuously ridable from somthing like 1200 to 300 ft, mellow at the top, through a couple of right angle lefts and rights, but at its best right in front and below the house we were staying at,my Banzai got some serious wobbles the first year my oak boards were better the next year but this hill was way out of my league at the time, this was long ago and I still need a rematch,I gotta look it up it was a quiet road at the time.

Hizzout: I hear that! I just set up my 4th complete and it's getting hard to squeeze in enough quality time with each. Today's commute to work was my first on: 34" Blockhead Stretch (old school) with indys and tall 92as; some close calls due to unfamiliar turning, weight, and unfortunately that slimey anti-freeze stuff Denver throws down. Hope you enjoyed the Slurpee! hang loose

If you have more than one board (I have 2, a S9 Cosmic 2, and a G&S 44 inch Pintail) ride all of them...OFTEN! I've been sticking to my pintail for about a month now. I decide for a short ride to the 7 Eleven I'll take my Cosmic. I'm cruising along fine, when I decide to try a couple of deep carves. Well, my pintail has torsion trucks, while my S9 has looser pivot trucks. I pull one deep carve and "superman" fly from the board. I was so used to the stiffer turning radius on my bigger board that I went a little too deep into the turn.
Just minor scratches and bumps but now I realize either: A. ride my S9 more often or B. tighten the pivot trucks

Yeah that works, but if your riding aluminators or just want to save your wheels, carving out may be a better choice,How fast are you going when you wobble? whats the pavement like? ect?, a fortyfive mph slide is one thing to talk about I'm sure its possible ,I've done them verified at 40 but if your not ready ,carving out may be a safer more instantanious way out.

Stopping wobbles is kind of like treating a disease, catch them early and convert them into carves, I've done this a couple of times and by catching them early, I mean real early like on the first twitches ,you may feel like a coward (a little) but it beats feeling like chopmeat.

I have a handsome big red welt on my bum. Rained on Saturday but I found a covered car park with POLISHED ASPHALT, with pillars all over the place. Loosened off the trucks and got busy with the best slalom I've ever done, leaning right over, such grippiness. Leaned a little too far though and received a pillar's edge. Walking a little funny now.

To the guy from UCSD: three words, man...stop, drop, and roll. Ha, just kidding. Stopping wobbles is kinda like saying "I was buried up to my neck at the beach and the tide was coming in. How do I stop the tide?" You see, it's not a matter of stopping the tide, it's how long you can hold your breath. Sometimes you can ride out the wobbles by hanging on for dear life and sometimes they get so bad there's just nothing you can do but prepare for a close encounter with your Mother Earth. From one UC student to the other. Man, I just HATE those damn Regents!

first thing is to bend your knees and get low. another thing that works, but looks kinda goofy is to put your arms out. it helps stablize the board. thats about as much as i know. later, rob

Well, it happenned yesterday, and I was totally unprepared for it.
I was at school (UCSD, if you care), and I was in a rush to get to a physics quiz. There was this big hill that I don't usually go down because it's kinda steep, but I had gone down part of the way before without any problems, so I thought I could go down more of it without issue. So, with my randal II's a little loose (first mistake) I was going down the sidewalk (second mistake) in my normal stance (third mistake) when part way down the hill I got the wobbles (I don't know how fast I was going, it wasn't too fast, but faster than I had gone before). The wobbles started small, but quickly magnified into quick, slalom type turns. I bent my knees and tried to hold on as long as I could, but I was kicked off my cosmic 1, my left knee hit first, I then roll on my hip, my left elbow, and then on my back, and ended up sliding on my backpack down the hill for a short distance. I guy jogging up the other sidewalk saw me and came over to see if I was alright. He said that the same thing has happenned to him, great, a fellow skater! So I got up, had a nice hole in my pants and a big scrape on my need, and I went to my quiz. Kinda annoys me now that if I had been wearing pads, I would have gotten up without a scratch.
My question is, what can you do when the wobbles start (as opposed to stopping before they start by having a good stance and tightening your trucks).

Crashing is good for you, well maybe not at downhill speeds with no pads, but a good solid body plant or dive every now and again, definitely keeps you in touch with your limits and proper falling techniques. Alot of people think crashing is embarrassing and avoid it,they get better and better at avoiding it in their twenties, thirtes, forties ect. then one day they can't avoid it and bang they have some debilitating injury, from something they should have been able to roll away from, and laugh about.
