my crash was my own fault.
i was riding through the shoppingcentre on my way to the trainstation to go to school. The asfalt was smoother than your grilfriends behind. I was going fast and then it happened. I tripped over my own foot. Board stopped immedeatly i flew a copple of feet through the air and made a bellyslide on the asfalt. I got the wind knocked out of me. My head kissed the ground and my hands tried to stroke it. my hands looked like they were put in a meatmachine. I still have big scars on my lefthand. Bits of flesh missing. i got up pretty fast and felt my frontteeth because they hurt like hell. They were not broken or knocked out. But then i was like. Oh my got i'm forgetting to breath. gasped some air, went into a store to wash the dirt and blood from my hands, chin ans lips. a part of my chin in bald now. No hair will grow there. when you look good at my upperlip you can see there's a bit of filling missing,
That day i still went to school. I was like i'm still standing. Next day my body hurt like hell. 3 days later i passed out from 1 joint (first time i passed out, dammit i never pass out). I was wasted for a week after that because i git the flu. Conclusion: i fucked my body up with that crash. When you fall hard see a dokter, i didn't see a dokter, maybe it could have been a lot worse for me. But always keep on boarding

Here's my crashing story from the Dump Road last Sunday. It's going to be kind of a boring story since I don't remember any of it.

Near as I can figure, I was doing a heelside Coleman slide and the board slid out from under me. I must have cracked the back of my helmet. I'm basing this on that fact that I have a road rash on the small of my back, so I figure that's what must have happened. I've had this confirmed by a couple of people who saw it happen.

After that I didn't ride, just sat around at the top of the hill acting, well, dingy, until Paul and company decided to take me home. Thanks, Paul. They say I didn't show any physical signs of being hurt other than not being able to remember what someone had told me two minutes earlier. They say my eyes were dialating properly etc.

Now, I am more or less okay. The more okay part is that I only had a mild concussion. I still had a mild headache this morning (it seems to be gone now), but physically nothing more serious than that.

The less okay part. I have no recollection of the dump ride at all. I don't remember driving to there. I don't remember packing the car, the ride, the Sector 9 truck, being driven home, nothing. All I remember of Sunday is the bits and pieces of being at the hospital and going home from the hospital. Most of Sunday evening's intact, but there are a few things that are still fuzzy. I remember talking to my mom and Paul on the phone, but don't really remember what I said to them.

Saturday is kind of fuzzy as well, but it's starting to come back slowly, as I remember one little thing I did, which leads to another. Friday night was fuzzy at first, but once I really thought about it, I was able to put most everything back together.

Kind of scary, but I don't think I did anything permanent (other than the memory loss, that is). Later,

Chris

One day decided to explore a different section of New York City(Queens) i never been to. It was going all good until I reached a densely populated area with a huge hill. I decided to ride it and see if I could avoid the traffic. I was carving it pretty smoothly down the middle of the street until a load of traffic came up behind me, so turn off the left riding next the parked cars. A big incline came up ahead and I picked up speed, there were no double parked cars ahead of me so I thought I was safe. Going about 25mph, an Asian guy in his car opens up his car door about 15 feet in front of me. I had no way of stopping so I gave out a yell and smacked straight into his car door. It broke off. The impact knocked me out, I had to go the hospital get a whole bunch of stitches, I broke 2 rib bones, but good thing I had my helmet on. And to top it the dick was going to sue me for breaking his car door. 8 Months later I recovered and was back boarding.

In May of this year I purchased a 60" Flexdex downhill board. After years of surfing, snowboarding and recently mountain boarding I thought I was invincible. The new board was so sleek, stable and fast that I kept challenging larger and steeper hills. One day, wearing all the gear, I attempted a hill that maybe was too big. After realizing there was way too much speed I tried to bail. My right foot hit the ground first hyper extending my knee all the way backwards and resulting in major knee replacement surgery. Now I am hobbling around on crutches, in pain and the worst part? No boarding of any kind for six months! Now that hurts. Be careful and fly with caution.

A while ago, me and a buddy of mine were skating from his house to mine to watch some skate videos. I had four videos, a set of wheels he gave me, a soda in ny hands, and a skate tool in my pocket. We were racing to my house and he thought he'd see how close he could get to me, and maybe even rub wheels like you see race cars doing all he time. Stupid idea. He tries it, our wheels lock, and we both stack it like Biker and Leemo in last years Gravity Games, but just not as fast. The videos, wheels and soda go everywhere, and the skate took gives my a monster dead leg. I only got scrapes and a huge dead leg, but it was a mental thing to do. I still make fun of him and I for doing it. No videos or wheels were harmed during the crash, but my Mountain Dew was lying there, emty bottled after that. I tell you, there is nothing that opens your eyes about keeping the cap on you bottles after a thing like that. Keep it real guys! And keep those caps on your sodas!

A month and a half ago I was riding in an area I hadn't skated before. As I was coming around a corner, I came across a hill that shot down at a nice fast angle. Unfortunately, I didn't check the line before taking off. I kicked at the top to get some speed, and about halfway down, I knew I was in trouble. I've hit some pretty fast speeds (for me, anyway) on other hills around town (about 30 to 35 mph), but I was over my head this time. The pavement was rough and uneven, and the hill was steeper than I thought. I had tightened up my Indies as far as they would go, but I started getting the wobbs real bad. The hill flattened out a bit about halfway down before the last drop, and I thought I could maybe scrub some speed. By this time I was veering all over the road, and I didn't see the pothole till it pitched me. I felt very lucky I didn't get hurt worse. I couldn't sleep on my side for three weeks, and whenever people ask me about the scars on my arm, I just tell them I fell down walking to the grocery.

While we're at it, there may be some who didn't know about the death of my beautiful 15 year old son. He died after falling on a hill and sustaining a traumatic brain injury. We were pretty much in the middle of nowhere, Eureka Springs, AR, and by the time he made it to a trauma center by helicopter, although he survived an incredible brain surgery his brain died due to the swelling and lack of oxygen, while lying injured and unconscious, prior to surgery. He never regained consciousness, he seizured at the site of his fall. If any of you have problems while skateboarding or your friends fall and seizure, seek immediate help. Brain injuries don't have to happen, they can be prevented, but once they do happen they are permanent, even if you don't die there is no cure for a brain injury. You could suffer some severe mental staus changes, balance and speech, coordination problems, etc. Simon has been gone since 11/29/98. We miss him every day. I cry almost every day at least once. He had a great life and was very happy. He was a talented violinist and electric guitar was his new hobby that was coming along quite nicely. He was a brilliant student and loved art. He was kind to all people, I think that was his greatest attribute. He was cool, played ice hockey, good looking young man, but always kind. As they say "loved by all" truly. Please share the sadness and loss of my dearly beloved son, Simon Cvetkovich. Thank you, his mother, Jeanne Schoenhofer.

Note from the Webmaster:

Ncdsa.com has promoted riding safety since day one, and we consider it our most important role in this sport. Our home page references "several forums dedicated to the topic". Let's see: there's Safety Equipment, Riding Safety, and what else? This forum, the Crashing forum. Yep, it's actually a deterrent and teaching tool, not just a crash scene for looky loos.

That's why we ask that people keep the posts focused on actual crashes. Not posts about the time you almost crashed. Not comments on somebody else's crash (though these are sometimes well written and thus permitted).

But people continue to abuse this forum, which just wastes our webmasters' time as they have to relocate or delete the errant posts. Red warning text on the input form has not helped. So consider this fair warning: users who continue to abuse this important forum risk losing their posting privileges on ncdsa.com.

after a long hiatus, im back... and have been hit by 2 cars...well, not really hit but more like attacked in one case and narrowly avoided in the other. in the longboarder VS the hillbilly truck driver he actually came across 2 empty lanes of traffic into the wrong handed lane to scare me (i hope he was just trying to scare me) needless to say a swerved tothe right and hit a curb, spilling onto the sidwalk sliding on my chest and getting some seroius road rash.. second time i was bombing along after a little time away from the board and i was approaching this fourway stop intersection. I saw no cars so i didnt feel the need to scrub any speed.. so i start my way through the 4-way and this old lady flys beside me... passing me from behind i nteh middle of this intersection and nudges me with her big assed lincoln. I of course bail out and am lying there wondering what happened when my board comes at me and smacks me in the back (adding insult to injury). The lady stops her car, and im just lying there dazed on the ground, then she peels out and leaves me there!!!!! AARRGGHHH i didnt have my glasses on so i couldent see the plates (probably a good thing i didnt have them on as they would have benn toasted) but this brings up my question, does anyone have these car related problems or is it just me and my little hick town in southern alberta??!!
cheers all,
RooX

Well, I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new flexdex tomorrow from solidskate...to take my mind off the waiting I decided to share a little story...
Last week I decided to skate down this beast of a hill in a nearby town from where I live. I drove there, upon arriving realizing I didn't have my longboard, but my shortboard which I use to skate street. 'Oh well,' muttered I, proceeding to butt-board down this beastly one-and-a-half-block-long-yet-MURDEROUSLY-steep hill. About 2/3 of the way down I started to fishtail, so I tried to stop by grinding down my heels, since I was only going perhaps 20mph. Wobbling badly, a small chunk out of my hand resulted, AND: I hyperextended my TOE. (Then ran my foot over with a 99a wheel) Quite an interesting injury, hurt something wicked for about an hour, then felt fine. Oh well. I guess that hill kicked my a$$. But tomorrow's another day...

my good freind just instant messaged me, and told me to go to this site, he told me witch stories to read, so i did. My brother was Harun DeLuce- the skateboarder that went down the intersection of 926 and 52. Harun died, after colliding with an SUV. Both, the SUV, and my brother were going at about 40-45 mph, when they collided at a 90 degree angle. i was shocked to read that so many people were concearned about writing these things- and i thank them very much. Harun didn't wear any pads, or a helmet. he had many injuries, but there was a chance that he could have been saved- if he had worn a helmet. i disagree that he would have lived- only if he had a helmet- because his body was crushed, and his internal organs were usless. The brain-stem was snapped, and that probably would have been saved from the helmet, but all of the other injuries would have killed him. He died on his 18th birthday- July 2nd, 2000, but i feel angry, and scared at times, but over-all, i feel at peace with myself.
