Hey Owen,
I was using 100mm/5" scooter wheels too. They are faster in straight line, but they lose grip on turns with an uneven surface. I started speedwobbling everytime I hit a certain unavoidable bump on a turn. They also tear up pretty bad, one fishtail can shread the rear ones to the point of being unusable.

Oh,yeah,I did forget one really obvious wheel choice in there,Owen;Look at Kryptonics' 85mm DH wheel.It's flatbacked,fast,fairly sticky,and not too wide.Still might be smaller than you want,but I'd bet it'll go better than those scooter wheels,at least thru turns.

Owen,you want a flat-backed wheel,and one that's not too wide,either.The most likely choice would be the old SantaCruz Road Weapon,which is 80mm tall,by 34mm wide in an 88A durometer.They're available from Oldschoolskates.com,come in either Black or light Blue.Faster,Softer,big wheels I'd steer you towards would be ABEC 11 Flywheels,but they're fairly wide,and centerset,so axle extentions would likely be needed,and your steering system may balk at having that much width and traction hanging off the sides.Buying wheels like ABEC 11 Flashbacks(only 70mm,but avail. in many durometers)and cutting some width off the front lip is another possiblity.ABEC 11 is linked into this site,and Chris Chaput,the guy behind the Green Wheels,is a good person to talk to.Give him a shout,and see what he might be able to do for you..While I've got an idea of where you're coming from,using an IceSled on the road,you might want to take a serious look at a 'conventional' luge set-up.Yeah,you'll loose the foot-steering cross-training aspect with a standard sled,but you can run more aggressive hills.If keeping 'the form' is your priority,then take the time to sort out what's available in the downhill wheel market,and maybe even consider Dirtboard wheels(air-filled rubber,usually in the 5"-7" size class).One last thought is to take the Scooter wheels you're using now,and lathe them to a flatter profile.You'd lose some height,but could get up to an inch of 'thane in width,which would provide some grip.

I've got a flexible runner snow sled design that I bolted some razor scooter wheels on to and it shreds on the street too. Now I'm looking for some much wider wheels with same diameter (5 inches?)I'm a snow monkey so I don't know anything about the street side. If anyone knows where to get wheels let me know please. Hey Brent,get clued in;I've done 55mph on my Turner Fullnose,and have been to (and over) the mile-a-minute mark a few times myself(once on a Sims 36" Taperkick,with huge UFOs and ACS 650's-Likely before you was 'in school').I was just pointing out to our Deleted Friend that what can be done on a luge is far faster,with more control.Heck,22 years ago was when I first went past 75 mph,only now my sled is metal,not wood. I stil have that woodie,if YOU'd care to try it,at speed...

Hey,Harsh Critic,just what about going 10-30 mph Faster on a given hill is Wimpy?? Or,for that matter,being able to Attack hills that have another 3% of gradient to them? I'm not dissin' on any form of downhilling here,just pointing out that the Speed that Luging can provide is a bit beyond what Standup is currently able to achieve.Once You've gone faster than what's legal on a West Virginia Interstate,you'll know...and not be So Critical. Btw,I'm an optimist...

Buttboarding and street luge are very similar as far as speed and technique. Buttboard is a spec class, with boards limited to 48 inches and intended to be inexpensive, so they're a couple seconds slower on most courses. See gravity-sports.com for equipment specifications.

The Gravity DB Athlete Bio area is now online. This area is designed for athletes to add more information on themselves including Statements, Goals, Race Results, Media Coverage, Additional Sponsors, Events they plan to attend and more. You can also add links to pictures you have stored on the Internet. This is a dynamic area so you can choose different headers, backgrounds and the information that you want to be displayed. It also takes advantage of the information you have already entered into your Gravity DB profile so you only have to add additional information.
These Bios will be linked into the Gravity DB Athletes area and in the top of the Bio update form there is a link that you can use to access your Bio without going through the Gravity DB web site. This gives everyone who does not have access to storage or the knowledge of how to create one a way of having a web site on the Internet for promoting themselves, their sponsors and gravity sports in general.

To create your online Bio you must be a member of the Gravity DB web site or you can join. After logging in you will be in the Athletes Directory Update Form. There you will find an Add/Update Bio button. Push it and you will be in the Bio Directory Update Form. Fill in the information, select a few options and your Bio is done.
Feedback on the Gravity DB web site is always welcome.

I am sooo stoked because after you get done reading this post, I will be on an airline, heading out from Utah to San Fran to see you unlimited street lugers bomb that ugly hill again. You know the one I crashed on (corner #2) last year (LOL). This time I will be taping the fun from the side lines.
