I have received many requests for plans for my wood street luge design. So I have posted a page about it. Now you can build it yourself and prove that wood can be used to make a fine machine.

Hey you "Lugers"!!! (lol)
I had a blast at Park City in Utah at the Olympic Sport Park this Feb. 6th. It was a "scare the s#@! out of me", "kick me in the head" rush session and I loved it!
Those of you lugers who did not grab the chance to do this...well all I can say is... TOUGH TITS!!!!! What a rush! Thanks Marcus and BOB for putting this together and Gordy of the USA LUGE Association (and 2002 olypmic silver medalist in ice luge...), you are da man!
Laters.

USA Luge Press Release

For immediate release February 4, 2004

Calling all Street Lugers

PARK CITY, Utah --- USA Luge and the International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) have teamed up to offer an open session of sliding for IGSA street lugers on Friday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the 2002 Olympic luge course in Park City, Utah.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the street luge athletes to experience the fastest sport on ice,” said USA Luge marketing director Gordy Sheer. “It’ll be a lot of fun to see what type of speeds these athletes reach and how they’ll make the adjustment from the street luge sled to the Olympic style sled.”

In April, USA Luge and the IGSA reached an exclusive agreement to assist each other in promoting both Olympic style and street luge. “This is part of that cooperation,” offered Sheer. “USA Luge has been working with the IGSA to obtain track time in Park City.”

Later this summer, the best U.S. luge athletes from the 2003-04 racing season will be invited to attend a week-long street luge training camp at the Wild Fro Racing School at the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area, near San Jose, Calif.

In addition to Friday’s sliding on the world’s fastest track, three IGSA athletes, Andy Lally (Northport, N.Y.), Bill Smrtic (Tulsa, Okla.) and South African Richard Knaggs, will also have the opportunity to train the following week with a goal of qualifying for Sunday’s, Feb. 15, U.S. Masters National Championships, also in Park City.

The IGSA, based in Glendora, Calif., was formed in 1996 and is the sanctioning body for a number of gravity sports, including street luge. Last year, the IGSA hosted over 20 gravity sports competitions on the continents of Africa, Europe and North America.

For more information on the IGSA, log on to their Web site at www.gravity-sports.com.

I work in video production as well as computer animation. I could put a show together but I don't know any other lugers in my area. I suppose people could send me tapes and I could edit a show, kind of like a weekly TV magazine. Next time I go to an event I could do a highlight about it maybe.

I was just hoping that the Gravity Games would include street luge under the new OLN onwership.

OLN works pretty closely with most Cable Companies... even with local offices. They have what we call their traveling "moose mobile", which is actually a painted up motor home that they use in public places to draw crowds and give away prizes.

Perhaps if some of the Lugers were to contact them and offer to be on site with their equipment... who knows? But a little effort on a few individuals parts may help you all out!

Cable companies also have avenues for you to be able to host your streetluge footage on the air... either through "public access" or through "local origination"... several of them even run local news shows that are ALWAYS looking for local stories and footage!

If your in So Cal... Adelphia Cable broadcasts some of it's local news shows to nearly a million households in the region! Once again, a little work on someones part could reap big results... HR

Heydon't sweat the ABEC ratings on the package buttbord/luge,just think of it as a 'Speed Limiter' for newbies.Well, that And the Chinese Quality of the whole product.I'd maybe do 40-ish on Chino stuff, but I'd rather use 35-year-old American Hardware to go any(or MUCH)Faster. Yup,It's still Survival of the Fittest,or rather ,um,Smarter Consumer these days...

people's top choice for street luge is the 83mm flywheels, but those are almost near impossible to find now a days. no one seems to be in stock. i like 85mm kryptos personally.
