Ive made up a cut up MTB(big f'n thing, with a huge iron bar through the middle, Too Heavy!) into a new one, using a Blind double kick longboard. I'm now using it for land kitesurfing... Heaps of fun, and you don't need to push back up the hill. Stoaked Dex

Allright guys if u wanna have fun off-road, this is what we like to do: We take my lifted 4Runner, dirtboards, and ski rope out to this local off-road trail. It's pretty fun just getting pulled around especially in the mud.. later..

Howzit! Usually I am posting on the buttboarding site but I've got some "all-terrain" stuff to contribute. I started dirt-luging with my "modified" buttboard and finally, after searching for a freaking long time, I have found an area that all you dirtboarders just s*#! for. It's a golf course that has been closed down for several years and it is filled with "groomed" hills and miles of asphalt paths for the golf carts. The pervious owners went bankrupted and now it sits. I've seen it before (it's close to the hill that I "street-buttboard"... awsome 10% grade hill)when I was buttboarding but never though about it until I started dirtluging. The 12th tee-off is the best hill to bomd off of. I'm not sure exactly what the grade is (looks and feels at a 12%) but it is long and steep. It winds off the top and, by pure iggnorance,I found out that if you go from the grass to an asphalt path, you jump into hyperspeed. Scared the spit out of me! Then if you need to slow up abit, you lean back on to the grass. There's alot of jumps and various runs you can combine into your line. I will be sending in some pics later. I am totally stoked with this dirt luging. After a bit of modifying of my regular buttboard, I am sold. Just finding the right place too. Peace. ek

Hi all, Got the dirstsurfer and have been having a blast. It took about 10 mins on a "blue run" to figure out best balance, and that was it. I did wait for the 3rd time I went out to mount the straps though, a must at speed on uneven terrain. Some of the cool moments so far were: surfing on perfect grass through a huge grove of young birch trees with sunlight filtering through (yeah, i know, if frikin' bambi had jumped out it wouldn't have surprised me); cruising a hill covered with sheep! (cuddly warm fluffy delicious things that they are); and riding a section of one of the ancient roman roads (as in "all roads lead to Rome") with ruins along the side. A bit disappointed about the minimal blood loss, though. Thought there would be more. Peace. GB

the razor will work great for a dirt slalom. it can handle just about any off-road riding you can think of. i am not being bias either, because i don't even really like mbs to tell you the truth. later, rob

yes'' it all sounds good. dirtsurfer, my dirtsurfer has a 2stroke motor on the back and tops out about 27 mph on dirt check out [www.2bextreme.itgo.com] and to whoever is looking for some good off roading, I live on a 2 mile 9% low traveled dirt rd, it can get you up to around 30mph on dirt. we also have miles and miles of charted and uncharted logging roads, All i can say is SOHUMHIGH, northern california has some of the best off roading in the world, one of the wonders of the world are the redwoods and we have the roads around them. jesse, thanks so much for the info. much appreciated. i've ordered a dirtsurfer . . . . now the agonizing wait for it to get here. NE ow, glad to hear its well made. i figured that wheels would be in regular need of trueing. i weigh a bit more than you, so i will eventually need to put some 3 or 4 spoke mag wheel jobbers on it. as for the foam pad on the lever, don’t know what to tell you amigo. there’s this glue here (don’t know if its available with the same name stateside) called “Pattex”. you apply it to both surfaces, let those surfaces dry for about 20 mins, THEN press them together for about 20 secs. two different surfaces work well, metal too, and various plastics, neoprene, foam, etc. i have used it regularly to reapir pads and stuff on on my kiteboard, the control bar, wetsuit, etc. this carries me over to your next point: using it for land kitesurfing. you freak !! its rough enough biting it on water, can’t imagine wrecking on land ! although i'm sure it would be wicked fun. question: on water i often find myself needing to give up some control (lose a rail, basically a standing slide) in order to gain different kind of control (reduced speed, get kite quickly to apex, etc.). must be pretty hard to slide the ds sideways, no ? (don’t know if i should be posting this here. can email you directly if neesd be.) when i get the ds i’ll give it a try, but if i die, i blame you ! finally, sorry to hear about the US ds operation being so-so. quick note to say that the guy here in italy selling them was totally straight up, answered all my emails right back, and was totally laid back on the phone, answering all my questions, etc. now lets hope he doesn’t charge a bazillion bucks to my card and take off to for brazil without sending me the dirtsurfer. peace . . out. gb

is the mbs razor good for anything off road apart from tricks and jumps (i'll do these to)?. I was thinking of setting up a large offroad slalom course would this idea work? Wide distance between cones on downhill surface.

GB, In response to your questions...
>Wondering if anyone who has owned a dirtsurfer for a while can let me know how the rig has held up to abuse.
It has held up pretty well to some good riding over various rough terrain. However, within my first 2 hours of ride time after taking it out of the box, the foam shin pad that is glued to the lever came off, and was impossible to put back on becsuas the stick glue wouldn't hold. I tossed it and duck-taped some foam back where it was. However, because the duck tape gets slippery when wet or sweaty, i am unable to align my calf to it when at high speeds, because it slides and wobbles off. It would be great it if you could send me some kind of replacement or solution to this! The only other major problem, is that with the kind of riding i have been doing, ie, streets and golf courses, for no apparent reason the wheels have become rather severely misaligned and the spokes bent out of shape, requrieing several times to bike shops to true the wheels. I am 5'10" and 155 lbs, so i don't think my weight should do that. >Also, now that you have had one a while, are you still riding it as much, or have you reverted back to riding your original rigs more ?
I have not ridden it as much lately, for two main reasons: 1. I got it because i wanted to hook it up to my powerkite and cruise on the beach, which i have done, but the learning curve is far steeper than i thought, and the wind conditions haven't been too good as of late. 2. With its current size, it is pretty innappropriate for true urban use. Great for carving wide mellow smooth and grassy slopes (such as golf courses), but those types of perfect groomed areas are far and few between, and when they do exist, the owners are usually not very fond of these types of vehicles on them. This obviously creates some barriers for overall usefullness. But it should be known, given the ideal conditions, it is an amazing ride, and i highly recommend it for that.
Lastly: with the experience I have had thus far with the dirtsurfer, and the dirtsurfer organziation, I can say it is unique ride, and definitely turns heads. We'll see if it truly hits the market and 'makes it.' Also, however, based on my experience, I feel obligated to say something about the corporate operations in the US of the dirtsurfer group: I am very disappointed with their communication and organization skills! I was originally discussing with them setting up a potential working arrangement with them, to help market and expose the Dirtsurfer to the West Coast. In short I had offered my time and feedback, and yet was given the runaround, didn't have calls returned, and ultimately, they simply dropped out of communication. A straightforward "no thank you" from the US corporate folks would have been more than appreciated--but instead, they just stopped all communication, which I find unprofessional. This type of relationship building, when interacting with the board's users, will only hurt the image of customer service for the dirtsurfer organization. And honestly, to me, customer service IS the company, and the dirtsurfer is only a product of the company. I am a loyal and return customer based on customer service first, and product second. Good luck.

Hi all. Have read the various reviews for the dirtsurfer that were posted a while back. Thanks particularly to Jesse. Couple of more questions: Wondering if anyone who has owned a dirtsurfer for a while can let me know how the rig has held up to abuse. Welds, twisted 'forks', hairline cracks, brake system(s) failure, the rims giving out, etc. etc. etc. Also, now that you have had one a while, are you still riding it as much, or have you reverted back to riding your original rigs more ? Finally, almost no wide descents here, only narrow twisty roads; is the dirtsurfer a good choice for this kind of thing, or should I reconsider given the reduced road space (width) around here ? Peace, GB.

all i know is that grass boards have 2 wheels in the back so they might be more stable and dirtsurfers are hard to ride.
