on the subject of UK shops, another good one that i use is..
www.kateskates.co.uk
...its really new school stuff but for bolts and bits its really cheap. a set of indy allen key bolts and pr of shock pads in my local skate shop are a fiver each. i got them all from kate for just a fiver - and that included postage.

p.s.

she can also get powell bones hardcore bushings, excellent things and well worth the extra money.

p.p.s. excellent opportunistic marketing mr. chaput! i was wondering what a set of the flywheels would cost me to ship!

post from the US
On 12/19/2001 Paul K wrote in from (195.110.nnn.nnn)

Mark at poolskater has sent stuff to me using the envelopes Chris Describes below.

Although there is the risk as there is no insurance, it also means that No Value needs to be put on the customs slip, if there is a value posted instead of "gift" ,the nice men at customs & excise get interested & it becomes not good value anymore

Shipping to Europe
On 12/18/2001 Chris Chaput wrote in from (63.168.nnn.nnn)

FYI, Here's something for the Euros to think about. The US Postal Service has a medium and large flat-rate cardboard envelope that can be delivered overseas for $5 and $9 respectively. It is the fastest form of delivery they offer because it gets tossed into the same container as their expensive shipping items. Anything under four (4) pounds (1.81kg) that can fit inside the envelope and can be closed using only one piece of packing tape qualifies. The smaller $5 one can easily fit a set of four (4) wheels inside and the larger $9 one can fit a pair (2) of Randal R-II trucks AND four (4) 70mm wheels inside and still be well under 4 pounds! I got ten (10) 70mm wheels in without any problem.

What's the catch? No insurance is available and not every country participates (sorry Italy). The UK and France are okay. I still haven't found the listing of participating countries but it's somewhere at USPS.com. If the shipper and receiver can agree on what to do if something gets lost in the mail, this may be a good cheap way for the Euros to get products from the US. I sent a friend in Japan (I know it's not in Europe) some wheels for $5 and they got there a couple days later.
$9.00 Flat Rate

On 12/18/2001 Dave T wrote in from (212.2.nnn.nnn)

Ante, there are loads to choose from, the american on-line stores are probably still the cheapest, I've ordered some gear from Mark at poolskater, great guy and awsome service, due to his low shipping charges he's probably your best bet in the USA, even with shipping charges he still beats all the UK shops. I've dealt with some of the UK shops and all are excellent, similar prices and all really friendly; Conspiracy, good all round slalom, longboard and newschool, Lush (not dealt with them yet) but slalom and longbaord and good prices, surrey skateshop longboard and newschool, and the pool skate shop awsome NOS 70's and 80's, longboards and newschool and great service, Phew!! hope that helps.

Irish Riders?

Any Irish Longboard or slalom riders out there?
Any riders fancy meeting up and cruising, bombing some hills or wiggling some cones?

Of course we would have to wait until March before the ground starts to dry up a bit...................

Old Swiss skaters
On 12/18/2001 Mitch T wrote in from (4.3.nnn.nnn)

Does anybody know what happened to the Swiss skaters from the early days around 76-78? Does anybody have contest results. There was a Swiss German named Martin who was all around champ back then, there was a blazing swiss italian in slalom who's name escapes me. I had a buddy from Geneva, Sandro Sicuro who was pretty hot in freestyle. I raced in a contest in Lausanne at Vallé de la Jeunesse and Palais des Sports and another one I think it was in Berne. Prior to that I did some demos all over Switzerland, and nearby France near Geneva, used to shred the Geneva Skatepark.

I agree with PCB to some degree, although sometimes I feel us foreigners get lost in the mess sometimes, and perhaps it'd make it a bit easier for new people to get themselves orientated, anyway talk about a great to start a new forum :)

New forums?
On 12/17/2001 PCB wrote in from (207.172.nnn.nnn)

Were these new forums designated to contenents really needed? Why not just welcome skateborders of all locations to post on the forums relevent to their discipline? I've always appreciated seeing people of other continents taking part in discussions along with everyone else.
