Talking with Dillon right now on the phone and it is pouring the rain down. We both agree that it is looking highly unlikely there will be an event at Lansdowne tomorrow but the official work will not come until morning.
If you are near Baltimore/DC and it is raining at 6:00am, I guess you can make your assumption based on that!
Hope all the guys in Va are okay! Saw some nasty storms come though there!
peace,

Is it now considered fully socially acceptable to crowd the coping? I've been all dainty about trying not to hurt anyone but now I've given up. I just knocked a guy clean off the platform a couple of days ago when he got into my space in the middle of a big backside boneless. I don't feel the least bit sorry. The rule always used to be that the current skater had full rein of the pool. Any takers?

Will the remnants of Ivan stop the fun tomorrow? I don't know...but Pks & Rec will decide at 7:30-7:45am sat morn....even though it looks like only a miracle will allow this to happen as tornadoes are threatening just hrs away and the rain falls everywhere but the Baltimore area so far....if u r planning to come out, give me a shout on my cell at 443-610-8488 and I will let u know if it's a go or not. I've got my fingers crossed but only Mother Nature knows for sure. If it's post-poned it may be held 2 weeks later! Peace!!

knucklehead,
Yeah, that makes sense -- especially if you've had the luxury of a BUNCH of parks to choose from in a small geographical area. Up until last April-ish, the nearest round wall was TWO hours away (one-way), and was so packed with BIKERS on nites and weekends that I always resorted to taking a day's vacation (one/month if lucky) in order to visit it on a weekday.
I've been digging up other parks as well, and will probably try to visit as many as possible... Then again, tearing me away from my local park is a chore, so who knows <g>.
Hamm,
I'm an old dude (50) who really just got into park skating (unless you count the less-than once-per-month trips to Louisville over the past year). Up until this spring, I've done more longboarding than shortboarding since I started skateboarding (2-3 years ago? memory goes first...). I'm planning on skating SD on the 24th and 25th. I was going to stay a few more days (and still could), but I'm thinking that I'll be wanting some rest after two days of skating, and hate to take up motel $pace when I could be buying more gear. <g> If you think you might want to skate with a geriatric dude, I'll take this off-line to email (russian plywood what?!?).

new Ohio Team pain park in Powell (Columbus)

Got a call from the kids the other night saying "you coming to the new pool". Turns out team Pain has been here all summer and the pool is done at the new park in Powell, Ohio. Its 12 miles north of downtown Columbus in southern Delaware county. I did not even here about it, but checked it out. It was nearly dark, but the pool looks killer. HUGE shallow end like the old Fruit bowl. No way to drop in the shallow. Trannys are like a real pool. Steps that I dont think I could ever carve over. 2 death boxes, one love seat. A real pool. Deep end is tight like Chino. I will post some pics on the Gong Show in the next couple weeks. The park is not open but should kick ass.

Ocean Beach is one of the worst parks in San Diego, IMO. Better off driving to Coronado, Barrio Logan, Clairemont or Encinitas. Just because it is close doesn't make it a "better than nothing" skate adventure. (does that make sense???)

We met with the city. They're going to donate land. Now we just need to raise funds. Please email any suggestions, etc.
Below is an excerpt taken from the "Gallipolis Daily Tribune"
Officials: Suggested skate park a positive idea GALLIPOLIS Ian McNemar Justin McCoy, 13, jumps off of the ledge, over make-shift wooden stairs while his friends watch Tuesday at the vacant lot on Court Street. The vacant lot is one of the only spots in town where skateboarding is permitted. (Ian McNemar/photo)
More than a 100 residents, skaters and parents met with Gallipolis City Parks and Recreation officials Monday evening to discuss the possibility of building a skate park for local skaters. Officials welcomed the proposal and plan to donate land for the skate park as long as funding needs are met. “It’s a positive thing,” said City Manager R. William Jenkins. “Organization of their plan for funding the project is important now.” For more pick up a copy of the Gallipolis Daily Tribune Story created Wednesday, September 15, 2004.

Thanks for the input.
I had misplaced the concretedisciples.com site in my bookmarks (nice resource!).
Not sure if I'll venture up to LA (would like to, but that's another 4+ hours spent driving). Glendale sounds like a blast.
I realize Ocean Beach isn't very smooth, etc., but it is just too close to pass up (about 5 minutes from my hotel).
I wasn't aware of the Poway park (didn't know Poway was "in" San Diego). Guess I need to get a SD map and cross-ref the subburbs to the park listings.

Tom, try hitting the Clairemont YMCA and the Encinitas YMCA skateparks. Both offer great pools to ride. Very user-friendly and fun. If you ever get further north to Los Angeles, check out Glendale skatepark. Free, fun, shade, and always us over 40 year old skaters there, skating the pool, snakerun, and combi bowl. GOOD TIMES!
If you look on the Photo forum at www.concretedisciples.com just click on the Glendale photos for more of a visual reference. Have fun on your trip out here.

I'll be going out to Yuma AZ via San Diego later this month, and thought I'd solicit a run down of the local parks – both in SD and Yuma (if any). I’ll be travelling I8 to/from Yuma, so any thing along that which is worth skating would be nice to know about as well.
Last time I was in SD, I was just learning to skate, didn't know how to drop-in, and the reality of a round wall was as foreign to me as an alien. That time (about 3 years ago?), I hit Ocean Beach (Robb's Field, Coranado, Mission Valley Y (has since moved to Clairemont IIRC), Escondido Y, a small crete park near Carlsbad, wooden park in Oceanside, and a small crete park near/in Vista(?).
I’ll be in Yuma Sun-Thur, then to SD for a bit of R&R Fri/Sat/Sun before returning home. Due to the limited time in SD, right now I’m planning on hitting Coranado, Ocean Beach, and Clairemont (all pretty close in proximity).
I have no clue about Yuma. I’m going to post in the Banks & Ditches forum just to see if I should take multiple boards/setups (I’ve never skated a ditch, but it sounds interesting – especially if there are no good parks in Yuma).
I’m open to suggestions… I could even extend a day if necessary…
Input?

Hey John O, I just read about a new documentary on Pablo. It opened in NY this weekend so it's probably playing somewhere in LA.
Also, I hit an estate sale today in Georgetown. Didn't find any political pins (or skateboards) but I did find some old unmarked canisters of film. $2 for the pile. Took them home and found out they're porn from the 1930's/40's. Always go to the basement. That's where the treasures are located.
Mike High is acting as my art patron and buying an expensive piece from the poster collection for the sole purpose of getting my poor ragged-ass out to ABQ for the Sandia race. So we'll see you freaks in a few weeks.
