concrete formulas
On 11/1/2004 Alexander Chin wrote in from United States  (207.16.nnn.nnn)

hey billybonebreak(and all you other concrete geniouses),
what kind of concrete are you using for your bowl?
I think most people use shotcrete or gunite? I've read that either of these is a mixture of 4 parts sand, 1 part portland, the application style is the only difference.
does anyone add gravel or anything to the mixture?
I'm working on some "home improvements" and could use some advice on this matter.
thanks.

Skated at berkeley skatepark today, it was closed due to the chemical leakage i believe. Warning, think twice about jumping the fence, the cops had a bust when I was there, everyone got a ticket. Luckily, I was already out when the cops showed.

someone also told me that they gonna enforce pads starting next year.

Eric- we've got more than that in Milford. There is also Gaps, which has an indoor 7' bowl that we session regularly. Most of us are in late 30s early 40s and usually gather on weekends for a few hours. Tomorrow from 12:30 - 3:00 we'll be there. Come on down.

Thanks for the update. It's exactly the kind of layout I've long dreamed of for this state. Wish I had this kind of terrain when I was a kid, but my 41-year-old head can still feel the flow! If not this weekend, I'll plan to sneak a peak next...

Heads-up for a blowing-up AGSJ PoolJam contest in Hawaii this Dec. 4th scheduled during the Pipeline Masters surf event; lots of heads will be there. Jay Adams and Peggy O' will be commentating the jam session.
The pool is located between Pipeline and Sunset beach and is almost complete - drooling.........

Yo Cfav! Yea, I'm almost 43, though hardly anyone thinks I'm out of my mid 30s...skating keeps you younger physically and mentally. btw, tomorrow, at high noon is the Halloween Outlaw Lansdowne Banked Park Slalom....costumes are mandatory...rumour has it that we won't even recognize WesE in his costume...it's free but you must wear your elbow and knee pads and helmet...yea, it's a tad wet out now but temps should be warmer on saturday and any wetness should dry out....catch me on my cell:443-610-8488 for a weather report....I won't be skating as I'm still healing from the dislocated knee but just watching you all helps quicken the healing process. Yo Dan Hughes...nice one-footed dance moves on the coping! I love those pix!! Happy Halloween everyone!!

Next trip to California, I want to skate more pools!
That San Rafael bowl looks similar to the University Place Skatepark, WA, which is near Tacoma.

So many skateparks, so little time...

Your next trip down here you should try the bowl at San Rafael. I think it would suit your style of skating well and give the locals something to talk about .....

Make that I-95, not I-5. Not that coast with so many skateparks that it gets confusing. We keep it simple in Connecticut. Two decent skateparks for every 5,500 square miles.

More Milford, CT progress
On 10/28/2004 BillyBonebrake wrote in from United States  (24.45.nnn.nnn)

Lots of crete is going down this week with cooperative weather. The site is Washington Field on Rte. 1 - from I-5 exit 36 to rte. 1 then right 1/3 mile up on left hand side, park at Garmin Plaza shopping center. Hop over or climb under fence. Officially it opens spring 2005, but we should have a session or two before then. I have more details here: http://www.skullandbonesskateboards.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27931

PUNKER APRYL & SOCALSKATEPARKS.COM
On 10/28/2004 BJS wrote in from United States  (4.43.nnn.nnn)

Hey great to hear that Apryl is ripping it up even harder and that every day she grows bigger she goes bigger. A couple of years back when I first came across her at Ontario Mills Vans, she stoked me with her punkrock aproach - around 11-13yrsold & charging anything and everything with no cares wearing a chain around her neck. So I approached her and offered some tips; took her to the vert ramp and taught her the process of learning how to do airs: early grab 1/2 way up the tranny then work your way higher each time till you reach coping. next time I see her she's doing airs out!

Hey Sumdum what are you dudes doing watching and taking pics of the paperboys breaking the coping??? STOP THEM IN THEIR TRACKS!

Mike Hirsch over at socalskateparks.com has alot of up-to-date-info on ALL the skateparks here in socal and has got the good beginnings of a forum goin if people would start checking it out. Check on the progress of New skateparks coming your way and give some feedback and chit.

I am right at 40, hitting a 9' bowl twice a week, and loving it. I am really having fun skating the old stuff too. my rider is a 1980 vintage pig, and I skate warptailII replica, Z-flex, and Hobie rocker when I get the urge.

YEP! 42.5 years young and still surfing, skateboarding pools/skateparks, and everything else I did when I was a teenager. Remember... 40 is the new 20. LOL!

Dang rain... looks like lots of draining will be ensuing this weekend if we want to ride any pools. DOH! Part of the territory, I suppose.
