Mom, in La Costa there is a set of 4 driveways that Greg Weaver & I skated for a photo shoot with Warren Bolster in the Mid 70's, I haven't checked them out for some time, so I don't know if they have been DE-SKATEBOARDIZED with speed bumps or anything else,..DIRECTIONS; 5 south, exit La Costa blvd.(left turn) go east to Camino Del Rio,(left turn)north,..to ALGA rd. (rt.turn)east,.. go down the hill, when you start to rise up, its the first right,..as you start down the hill, look to your left,..you will see a section of Townhomes with 4 or 5 driveways,..if you are Goofy, you will be skating front side,..I may be going to Oceanside this weekend to see Dale Smiths skateboard history display at the Surf Museum,..if I do I will make a point to check them out and post the currect condition of the spot... Best sidewalk & banked driveway runs?

Hi
I'm hankering to find some long runs of moderately sloped sidewalks with banked driveways. I'm sure I don't have to elaborate here!
I live in Laguna Beach and grew up in Newport and consider Sandcastle Dr. in Corona del Mar one of best, but am wondering if there are others in OC, LA or San Diego to consider. I'm not into speed, just want to feel that surfy flow. FWIW, I ride goofy foot and am more comfy going backside on the driveways.
Thanks in advance!

Just got my board and am stoked, I have been riding a regular skate board for a long time but this is new for me.I love the carving you can do,and just the smooth cruising.I ate it pretty hard doing a small portion of a pretty steep hill i got crazy speed wobbles and tried to bail,I slid a few feet on my knees and elbow.nasty.no dresses for a while.I got spanked but now respect the speed alot more and will take it easy on my hill boming

Dolna, I suggest you post your request for assistance on the slalom forum because there are quit a few people in Canada that may be able to give you some suggestions or help you out. You'll find the slalom family very accomodating. V dshufly

Active Transportation: Skateboards & Youth - request 4 help

Hello from Canada,
Will start by introducing myself. I'm a mother of a skateboarder and longboarder. We are both involved in a skateboarding association, which is working to develop a concrete skatepark in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Along this long and winding road, I've become an advocate not only for public skateparks, but also for skateboarding as recreation, sport and transportation.
The reason for this post: Active Transportation (AT) advocate Michael Haynes contacted me because he is preparing a Webinar on Skateboarding as AT for CHETNET-Works (Click here for link). The webinar will broadcast on Wednesday September 24. Quoting from Michael's email to me: "This is an open educational session, provided by the University of Ottawa, that targets community health professionals for its audience."
The topic is: Active Transportation - Skateboards and Youth (Click here for link)
You can learn more about Michael by reviewing his blog on Active Transportation (Click here for link)
Michael would like to hear from people who can: 1. describe barriers to skateboarding as Active Transportation; 2. suggest solutions to these barriers 3. provide success stories of skateboarding as transportation; 4. provide photos of folks of all ages using their skateboards for transportation, e.g. on roads/sidewalks, to school, work, etc.
If you can help, please contact Michael at activetransportation@rogers.com. If you send him your phone number and let him know when to phone, he'd be delighted to interview you by phone.
Thanks.

The skate: between Pacific Beach's Crystal Pier and the S. Mission Jetty
the far left arrows represent part of the trip. but as you can see, there's lots of sidewalk terrain here to cruise at high-speeds.
All you gotsa do is gimme an email and we can hook-up just north of the crystal pier at . but you better be in good shape! cuz we kick it! ALL THE WAY!

Hasko, check these out!
http://www.longboard.net/about.htm
I've been on a few even romped one thru my G.S. course at the Last Gathering. They'll ROLL, but they're definately set-up to turn as well. Great plank-walking toys, IMHO.
If the home addy above dosden't get results, try this copy/paste addy.

I hope this work for ya. If not check out LongboardLarry's stuff. He's got 2-3 60" types, and one a little bit shorter, but does 'custom' decks too.
BTW, I snowboard often on Rad-Air Tankers, which are pretty long-ish. My 'short' one is a 167cm, then I've got a 172, a 182, and a 200cm. Almost 6 ft. of deck definately makes the hill go by quicker! Longboards rule!!

Hey Mike good luck in San Fran. What part of Ohio are you from? I'm in Columbus. I've been longboarding for 6 years. I just got back from living in San Diego for 2 months. I moved out there to skate and I always dreamed of that sort of lifestyle...but I came to discover that it wasn't for me. And its crazy expensive there. So whats your reason for moving there?

I am moving to san francisco july 17th! I pretty sure I'm the only longboarder in northwest Ohio,Or at least feel like it. I will have a longboard when I arrive (new longboard larry 48" kicker) I love larrys boards they have that quality feel. I'm 21 years old and could teach you some longboard tricks. I love longboarding I believe its an addiction. I am going to move to the mission district and if you want to cruise email me. I am easy to get along with also love music Radiohead Flaming lips Modest Mouse Beastie Boys and Beck are just a few of my favs maybe that will help you. Wow I used I a lot in this paragraph. kellerkroger@hotmail.com

is that the pintail that measures something like 46x9? it would be hard to say, what kind of sliding are you talking about? for sliding i usually go with something smaller with really hard wheels.
