Board Review
Deplo Skateboard
On 6/12/1998 Tan-Dog wrote in from ()

Right now Deplo Skateboards is running a sale on their completes, they include their deck, Indy trucks and Kryptonic wheels. All this for $100.00! This is a deal that is hard to beat, especially for those on a budget. I have a Deplo with this set up and love it. It is a sweet carver, a smooth downhill cruiser, I fully endorse this board, it's a winner! You have untill July 4th, get on the ball and give Steve a call, before you know it you will be cruising in phat style!

Barracuda
On 6/9/1998 Jason wrote in from ()

Production began Monday June 8th 1998 of the newest and most incredible freestyle longboard
available on the market today. The "BARRACUDA", 9 x 50 8 ply maple concave with a kicktail, is tapered
at both nose and rear. Obviously features the "Torsion" truck with a blue 86 duro bushing. Wether bombing in New Hamphsire, carving in Australia, or doing kick flips
in Costa Mesa the Barracuda is the most versatile longboard skateboard around. The deck was designed by profesional skateboarder and street luger Sean "the duck" Mallard
who used the torsion truck geometry to guide it's development. In simple terms it is the best deck available for the torsion truck usage.
Full grip tape on deck top gives you more variety still.
It will be in your local board shops soon, in the meantime you can order direct from exkate our cyber account for credit card payments should be up this week. See
our web site www.exkate.com or on the NCDSA links page.

Sector9 cloud nine w/ Randals and 72mm invisible wheels w/ powell swiss and dooks risers
On 6/8/1998 Rogue wrote in from ()

This is my first longboard and I must say I love it. All my
frieds ride regular decks, but I sucked so I thought the
more laid-back style of longboarding would suit me, I was
right! I love cruising and I've started to bomb some small
hills. The deck is awesome for my huge ass feet, size 16's.
Anyway I can't say enough about my deck so I reccomend it to
anyone that wants a sick-ass board.

Sector 9 Super Cruiser
On 5/28/1998 Rich wrote in from ()

Yeah i wimped out and bought a Sector9, don't give me any sh*t about it.
Well.. i've had the thing for 'bout a week now. The "Pleasure" Cruiser is a-ieght. I'm still waiting to see about the trucks, cause right now their squeakin' away and have some wobble when I really get goin on the downhill. I'll just chock it up to a "breaking in" period, but i have the nasty feeing that i'll have to blow more cash on a replacement set. Board handles fine for my 180lbs, and the ever so slight nose-tail is a beautiful thing.
Truth be told, I ain't blown away by the board, but at the same time I feel that i've got my money's worth. What can i tell ya? There's a reason Sect9 is the so-called "standard".

Sector 9
On 3/26/1998 Jack wrote in from ()

I ride a 5-ply Sector9 44 inch deck with fat 9-ball wheels
and independant truck. I'm a light-weight and the board
still reacts beautifully. Out of all the bearings I have tried
Terminator abec threes are the best. The shallow kicktail is
perfect for tail rides and flatland. The best all around
board I have found. Huge paint job and style-this is where it's at

Phat Cruize Boards, original model
On 3/21/1998 Chris wrote in from ()

Phat Cruize Boards are amazingly manuverable. Can carve side to side, and change direction, pull Ueyz, etc... They look smoothe, and the riding is even smoother! They have a unique board design with cutouts so that you can turn as sharp as you want to. Enjoy these phat boards on a cruize downhill, or pump this board on flatland and you dont have to push with your feet by keeping your momentum. If you arent able to make it to the beach, or cant snowboard because of seasonal reasons or cant get to the slopes, grab a Phat Cruize Board and do it on cement. IF YOU LOVE TO SURF OR SNOWBOARD, YOU WILL LOVE PHAT CRUIZE BOARDS! Go get your own!

Daring Adventures / Kapu Trucks
On 2/23/1998 Robert wrote in from ()

(See also my post on Kapu trucks)

Their longboard completes are pretty cool, very traditional
longboard shapes. They have a "gun" shape and a more rounded
shape, and you can get them made from either plywood or
solid hardwoods. Either way they're kinda heavy, at least
compared to Sector 9 boards, but I only notice the weight
when I'm hiking back up the hill. Also, they don't flex,
so if you're into flexible decks you might want to get the
Kapu trucks and put them on something else. The trucks
are great for surf style downhill slalom.

SoulBoard
On 2/16/1998 Stephen wrote in from ()

My friend has had a Soul Board for about 2 years now and it has gone through complete hell, and it is still the fastest i've ever seen. It can out turn, speed and slide better then my Sector 9 Super Crusier, my friends sector 9 Cloude Nine, and another kids Cosmic Rider 2, I would of got one but no store had them. So if your looking for agreat board go with a Soul Board or a Super Cruiser

Cosmic Rider II
On 1/16/1998 Socal Rider wrote in from ()

The Sector 9 Cosmic Rider II is a great board.
I use the cloud 9 for downhill and for big airs off stairs,
because it is so stable and lite for its size. But the
cloud 9 for me was just not a ramp board, it is just
too long for halfpipes. So I got the Cosmic Rider II,
it is great for ramps and halfpipes, and it is so lite
that it is easy to bust airs off anything. Both boards
are well worth the money!

Hobie Big-5 special
On 7/29/1997 ho wrote in from ()

I bought this board and bungie-corded it to my suitcase on
abusiness trip. It barely rolled. My 15 year-old plays
Rugby and we live on a 10 degree slope. He can almost get
it moving at 200 pounds. All this for $24 plus tax.
When he was 8, I spent £100 on a decent deck and he just sat
on it. Remember Fathers, teach your kids golf and you can't
get screwed-over buying equipment you know nothing about.
Regards to all from Cowtown, SUSSEX, ENG.

the Gullwing Trucks, the old school is in session and
Payaso is the teacher. Look them up if you want to surf

Powerhouse PX-1 48"
On 12/7/1996 adam wrote in from ()

The nicest downhill board I've ridden! The unique board shape gives unlimited wheel clearance and great rebound (designed to mimic a snowboard, says the mfgr). The Invader 153 trucks give this board a very tigh turning radius; way better than my Interstate 50" despite the fact that the PX-1's wheel base is an inch or two longer. Even the mounting hardware is top notch.
