Knee pads for sliding
On 11/17/2005 Chris Borris wrote in from United States  (71.143.nnn.nnn)

What knee pads do you recommend for sliding. I noticed on the Faltown videos that some skaters wear a sort of wrap around knee pad. What kind is Sergio wearing and where can a person purchase them?

Also, Cliff, are you palnning any clinics in the Northern California area in 2006?

Chris

Canonballs - $5 shipping to the US
On 11/17/2005 lonerider wrote in from United States  (65.249.nnn.nnn)

Whoa.. I just checked and it claims that it's only $5 shipping to the US. I assume it will probably take like a month to get here, but still $40 shipped is not a bad price. That has jumped to the top of my list of wheels I'll looking at - so far I was considering between the Sergio Yuppie Sliders, Pink Polkadot 96a and Mini-Cubics to replace my 60mm 98a NoSkools (they are still going strong, but getting a little small).

sliding wheels
On 11/17/2005 Nick wrote in from United Kingdom  (80.4.nnn.nnn)

I'd recommend whole heartedly the new lush cannonball sliding wheels (60mm ones). Ive tried most branded sliding wheels and these are quite simply the best on the market. Really fast, slidey enough to do 1080's but also have a little bit of play when your sliding to push against. www.lushlongboards.com - - they ship worldwide. If your lacking money then the next best thing is prob the bullets that are for sale on the smae site.

Black Mini Cubics
On 11/15/2005 lonerider wrote in from United States  (65.249.nnn.nnn)

The Black mini-cubics at 97a, the Neon Green ones at 95a although supposedly someone has measured them and said that are 2-3 point softer. (i.e. the 95a is actually a 92a). If you want to do more than a 180/pendulum, go for a wheel in the 92-98a range. Harder wheels slide more easily, softer wheels are smoother. You can always slide softer wheels, you just need to be going faster on a steeper hill.

The slides on flatland are short because you aren't going very fast... when you are on a steep hill, the steepness is what keeps your speed up. You need *steepness* find a place with a steep section that runs to a flat. Sliding on a steep section is a breeze compared to on the flat because you have so much more time before the wheel stop sliding.

type of wheels
On 11/15/2005 JM wrote in from United States  (65.200.nnn.nnn)

What Brand of wheels do you guys suggest for sliding? what sort of wheels?

There are the new "concrete park and pool formulas"... then the traditional 80A-101A ratings. Not to mention each company has a different urethane formula, so it's gotten really confusing and I'm running out of money testing things.

Right now I have 78A Sector Nine stock wheels. They are OK, but not what I'm looking for. I'd like to have ONE wheel that's a smooth ride when I'm cruising, but a sick sliding wheel when it's time to slide. Am I dreaming?

I see that "allen" (a post or two down) is riding mini-cubics (standard wheels) -- what hardness are those?

So... what do I look for in a good sliding wheel?
1)size wise--over 58mm but under 64mm?
2)what about hardness? harder then 78A but softer then 101A?

I have seen some wheels with a "D" rating. What does that mean? I have only seen 97A, or 85A (for example)... but just the other day I saw a 97D in the shop and the owner/worker didn't know anything about 'em.

finally any suggestions for practicing sliding on mostly flat ground. I can push my ass off and get some OK slides, but they are over so quick.
Any suggestions?

Why longboarding doesent have the money as other skate genras
On 11/15/2005 Stevan L. Panton wrote in from United States  (72.0.nnn.nnn)

The older generations do not know the diffrence in a longboarder vs. a drunken morron that kills himself becouse he wants to fly down a hill on his board. The older generations also say that there is no safe way to stop on a skateboard. The "Experts" also say that Retrograde motion is an optic illusion. Well i have study my stop for some time now and I have discoverd that when not in retrograde motion, I stop from the method of stoping from slideing. When I am in retrograde motion, I whip-lash back the direction I came from. This is our chance to tell the older generations that what ever they know, we will know 3 times faster than they do. Once in retrograde motion it seems that the faster you are traveling the more effective the stop is. Once they discover that there is a safe way of stoping on a skateboard, companys will dump mass $ into it in this country. When I see people talking about slideing feet at 30mph+, I realize how the non-drunk morrons hurt themselfs. This is not a battle of seeing whois better Cliff Coleman, its about Skateboard evolution, safty and proveing skateboarding in any way is not a crime.

I did not approve of this race. Tri has to much Faith in me. Friends getting little more pissed about what people are saying to me, then I am. I Know that there are many people as good as I am. I believe they just have no idea of what they are doing or how close they are comeing to doing the Gravitational Stop. I am not trying to prove myself to any body. However, in most cases, the best of the best have not yet been discoverd. I have not been discoverd and yet i have a corperate sponser and have raced on a international scale. People need to become aware of this genra becouse it is closer to being and Olympic sport then any other skateboarding sport. Says Matt Hemingway, record holder for the High Jump and America's silver medal high jumper. There are underground compatitions, underground becouse it is deemed "Deadly Dangerius behavior." Where its all about mastering the arts of high speed stops. A new Genra for skaters tired of HILLS, RAMPS and RAILS. Like most genras, it came from Brazil and in time is moveing north. I feel that becouse my father broke his neck when i was 8, that I picked up arts of stoping that are ahead of the evolution game here in America. The genra has hit mexico now. For 14 years I have hidden from the competative world, with the exception of our own races which have a purpose, to make a new genra of Longboarding. I am Currently working on a top tits designed web page for this genra. I am also spending all my money into makeing this genra.

Well man if you are just learning to slide I would almost say learn on a softer wheel. I learned on 78a flashbacks and I am damn glad I did. Helped me get down the pure basics of the slide before I went into trick sliding. For my first set of slide wheels they were 96a no skoolz and they sliddddddd, i'll tell you what. Those got trahsed and now I have 94a no skoolz and they also rock. I find that I only get hung up on rocks with them is when I am going pretty slow. I'v hit some pretty major sized rocks and huge things of gravel in the street and didn't go down. You just gott relax, bend the knees, and prey you make it. If you are going fast enough, doesn't even have to be THAT fast, the rocks will get spat out infront of you by your wheels. Good luck and go slide.

I remember hard wheels (anything over 97A) would hang up on any rock that came near it. How do you handle this when you are sliding? What hardness do you suggest for starting to learn slide stuff?

Why don't you just post video of your claims? I can't read all of the mis-spelled words in your posts. This is for real. The rest of us Americans who are so far behind would like to see on video what you say Stephan can do. maybe I'm ok with you and your crew? I was born in Hawaii. And if Stephan was doing all of this when I was, as you say, tying my shoes, then he must have been doing what you say in about 1951.

A video is worth a thousand words dude, talk is cheap!

He we are begging for people just to come check it out
On 11/7/2005 Tri kakua wrote in from United States  (72.0.nnn.nnn)

Assume for a second we are telling the truth. And we are talking about a stoping method that has nothing to do with slide stoping. A stop method so effective that the faster you travel the more effective the stop becomes. and it actually requirs no skill, just balls. RetroGrade motion must be occureing for this stop to work the average 44inch longboard with 77mm wheels hits retrograde motion is at about 30-40mph. this stop is so reliable it wont let you down. It inverts and reverts earth gravatational force so you get the full force of gravity which 8.6meter/second to stop. And the day you drop an apple and it never hits the ground is the day a gravitational stop will let you down. And Stevan doesent evan need to prove jack s#@!. ok his skating buddies alot of them are brazilian bonzi. The people the started skateboarding and started every sub genra of boarding is from brazil. 15 years ago when they discoverd gravitational stops trick skateboarding started fade from brazil. And maybee you people backing up the wrong people. We started posting here after we read under stoping forums that every ones talking about doing 30mph drag you foot stops, well at about 28 mph- 38mph is retrograde motion, and dragging your foot can destableize the 4 gyro's that are in retrograde motion. My friend ever seen a nascar just get lighty taped then within a millisecond the car flips 14 times. Perfect example of gyros in retrograde motion destableizing induceing massive off balance in the gryo equillibrium. Ask you self why can trick skateboarders do all these things that they do. Why most trick skater can ollie higher than they can jump is cuz the skateboard wheel is very small so it hits retrogrademotion at much slower speeds than cars, Gravitational stops follow the same laws that the trick skateboard board gyro follows. We just learned how take the gyro force that make these trick skater ollie higher than they can jump, and evolved a stoping method out of it, a stoping system more effective than any thing man has built. Stevan is proof of that.

the cell damage is not from the skate board its coused by the inversion and reversion of gravity rip in and out of you body. Ok from induceing a violent rotation at speed of 55+ damaged stevan after 32 runs. ok its safe to say that yes America is years behind in skateboarding just like with style, and your music and your measurement system

To Contacted Stevan or the Central Oregon Gravitation skateboard Team
On 11/7/2005 Tri kakua wrote in from United States  (72.0.nnn.nnn)

P.S. Despite all you s#@! talkers, there was around 50 replys from this site wanting to meet Stevan. I am sure he no doughts in any ones skill he needs people and he has one of top 5 weathyest corperations in the world sponsering him. Also been hearing him talk about a next generation longboard that use gyroscopes. I believe Stantford University is done with digital cad construction of the skate board and unless Stevan hasent release its privacy law, you can go to there website and the cad model of it. just to let you know to Cali isnt the biggest longboarding state in America Hawaii is. I am not a gravitational stoper I just ride with sector 9 and I am helping my friend who tought us a stoping method that has not let any of us down, and stops us at a rate of 8.6meter/second, the full force of Earths Gravity. I dont get it he has 10's of thousends of dollars just to build a team and scince nov. 5th 2004 he has got 1 teamate. His name is Chad Olsen, RING A BELL IN UR HOLLOW HEAD? He had an Ego like most you do to. Like you all he talked s#@! to, untill the sports writter doing one of stevans press releases had Chad in his contacts and the sports writter interviewed Chad to let people know what longboarding is then chad was showen Stevans Photo's and video clipings of Stevan and asked Chad How do you think when you see Stevan at higher speeds then Chad ever was and that not evan the main attraction. After Chad wittnessed the gravitational stop he got back into compatition as Stevans Apprentice. Two people just united the sport in Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and Austria. So just keep talking s#@!. Stevan can to, every sports writter loves him. In one of his Article's Dated November 5th 2004 tittled Up in smoke, hot sport picks up speed. He had the papers endource NCDSA, he can just as easly ruin this web site's reputition, as well. It appears that the reason America isnt forming a team is cuz they are scared. America is still 5-15 years away from discovering the Gravitational stop. Gravitational Skaters are people sick and tired, more completely bord to death of HILLS, RAMPS, and RAILS. Stevan has gave up in America. Honestly, he is wasting his time here. People are scared of him so they make fun of him. Only makeing him stronger.

Dont you think your beeing alittle harsh. Grow up i used to ride with Stevan on for Sector 9 in Kahuku Hawaii where some of the steepest mountains in the world exist. Maybee you guys should try to meet him. Also we do NOT like when you wannabees sign abuncha Ghost teams up for the Gravitational race in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. Wasted our money, Disrespected your own sport. Stevan Lyle Hemingway Is the most fearless person I have ever met. Also he Jacked his liver badly 5 years ago. He has about 12 years to live. I understand he sounds like a freak when he talks. He is f#@!ing dieing. But I will warn you, his fear of death is gone. After his diagnosis he decided to kill him self cuz his Debrissoquine Left him with a date and time of his death. He also is seperating the 15 year old sport away from longboarding none of you evan understand what a Gravitational Stop is. Gravitational skaters which there are about 5 people in America that we know of that does Gravitational stops all of which at one point in time were Stevans Apprentices. He had take the sport out of America. Older People compared what Stevan is doing to as deadly as "Illegal Street Raceing", "Flying of the side of pilot butte on a motercycle." the other longboarders think hes full of s#@!. Ask yourself how many out of the country World ranked any kinda races. Stevan has skated with the goddess of skateboarding and the Brazilian Bonzi team. If you think you can stop faster than stevan, f#@!ing join him. He didnt start ride to be a bad ass he started when most of you where still learning to tie your shoes. He watched his dad brake his neck when he was 8 he saved his f#@!ing life. That why he started skateboarding. To prove how fearless he is he is pulling Gravitational stops at speed faster than the world speed of 62mph he is cordnating with guiniess becouse no body has ever set the fastest high speed skate board stop. The guiness t.v. is going to film his stops in 6-8months. They are also working with him becouse he setting all you people for desaster and just when you think you beeten Stevan, you will realize that 20% of his skill. Also keep in mind if plan on doing these stops at 55+mph, Stevan cant ride for 6 months becouse the force is induceing mullecular celluer damage. For all you Numb Nuts thats means he is damageing every cell in his body. Evan you learned to use your 4 diffrent retrograded gyro fields and the pounds of pressure I generates and combining it with earth Gravity to Engage a Gravatational Stop unless you are a skinny twig like Stevan, Laws of Physics wont work for like they do Stevan. Stevan Hemingway is the most innovative longboarder ever. He has custom equipment that I never evan heard of. See you guys talk s#@! about him cuza you FEAR him. I do to, he is trying to kill himself on that board. Many compatitionist think its unfair to let Stevan. They do there runs the Stevan gets 40-50mph launch from his car b4 he evan hits the hills. I am f#@!ing sick you guys. I am only typeing this for me not Stevan. He doesent give a s#@! about Professinal longboarders he is a world rank Gravitation Skatboarder. we just watch Stevan in the Cabo Race which was a 3 day race. After Stevan's only teammate he could in America gets canceled Stevan did 1 run the stats 54mph-13yrd stop. Then The entire Cabo team lost in a row do to his run. The next day I watched 6 mexican gravitational skaters loose to that same run 6 more time in a row. Then the 3rd The mexican team lost 6 moore times in a row. So instead of talking s#@! give us a call. If think you are any where near as good a stevan I am sure he will hand out a Corperiate Sponsership and travel the world competeing against the other countrys forming teams to stick the first skateboarding sport in the olympic games. Becouse it is the first of skateboarding that meet all standerds to be an olympic sport. What do you think will happen when that will be biggest talked about thing in olympic history. Then they will the Gravitational Skaterboarders hiting as fast of speeds as the Street luge and ripping more G forces than the bob sled. AND i CANT believe you Americans would rather make fun of Stevan than to help form a American Team. I dont think he doughts you people. We are aware that are people that arent discoverd let alone the facted that they actually know the diffrence in slideing and slide stop methods compared to Gravitational stops. Stevan has been telling people for 2 years now what plans are. If you like race Stevan I am sure he would gladly drive to you or fly or fly you to him he is looking for people and all of us that used to ride with him think he is the most suicidal person I have met. His plan is to do the stops at faster and faster speeds untill they claim his life. He says he will not die on a hospital bed. f#@!ing sad America, you know what you f#@!ing retards AMerica is allways the last place to udate itself.

Hans,

I'm 6'1". Sergio is about 5'3, maybe 5'5" max. I like a deck about 36" with an 18.5" inside hole to inside hole wheel base. That's the inside holes of your base plates. Sergio likes a 33" deck length. If you want to do spins and trick slides, you will need to stay away from the super long decks. Some riders cn rip it up on longer boards, Brad Edwards and Fabrice come to mind. It's just that the majority of trick sliders do better on a somewhat shorter deck.
