i made a sail board a few years back with a kids windsurf sail .. i epoxied the mast foot complete including a 6" bit of the surfer deck just behind the front truck , it looked rough but worked .. one thing to think about, is the ground is a lot harder than water and if u go out when its windy ,you will come off and put holes in yourself and the sail... also try www.windskate.com

Bahne ,either produced, or teamed up with somepne in the mid/late 70's. And I believe the socket for the mast wasn't as far back as 13 the way!! It was a smaller board than your's (could be why)

Funny you should mention that now Mark. HC posted a link over in the trucks area (about 3 or 4 posts down) for some guy who built his own sail-skateboard.
Check it out, it might give you some ideas.

sail for longboard

I have a big board (57") I'm not using much right now, and I keep thinking about putting a sail on it, like a windsurfer. Anyone out there with any experience at this? I'd be curious to hear about anyone's experiments with this concept. My biggest question is this: Should the mast be attached to the very front of the deck, or would it be better (seems to me it would) to attach the mast about 1/3 of the way back from the nose, so the rider could 'switch stance' around either side of the mast? With the wind and flat terrain here in Texas, the potential for speed would be unreal.

Check Hughs site, off the links,he has page(s) with my stuff. It could be argued that my gloves are ugly, but i think they just look burly and functional.I think i like the non-availability of gloves,i think sliding through corners and the way slider gloves open a new realm of skating is very cool, and i really like that this can't just be bought like soap shoes,it's better this way. I wouldn't like to see some PC california style news program put together expounding on the evils of "this new trendy skateboarding accessory that all the kids are into, that has been the cause of many serious injuries and a few deaths" interviews with teary eyed moms, angry dads, ect ect. if you can't figure out how to make them ,it's questionable if you could figure out how to use them safely.

French Slider Gloves!

I for one, would love it if some company acutally put out a good sliding glove, i'm not terrably good with stuff like that, and the last sliding glove i had came apart (ok, so i used the "clear" shoe-goo and it sucks), but honestly, it looked like total crap, it'd be nice to have a professionaly tested sliding glove. Mabie some company like FOX could get into it, they make motocross gloves and all. Has anybody actually seen any other sliding gloves for sale?

Had a chance to try out the new slide glove that the French are making. Marc/Longskate had a few demo's and I wore a pair all day at the Dump Rd. 1st impression: look neat, are very HOT. They are made of a light material that looks like it would breathe, but my hands have never sweat so much in my life. As far as function, I thought they worked great. The slide pads are well, slippery and seem like they would last a while. Nows the bad part, the slide pads will last longer than the glove itself. The backs and wrist appear to be made from a thick lycra and the palm under the slide pads are synthetic leather. I was trying some new slides & stuff so I came off my board several times. If you hit your knuckles or the back of your hand on the street, OUCH! Its like wearing skin, no protection. And they tear or pull at the seams if a part of the glove thats not the slide pad hits the asphalt. I've heard various quotes of what they are supposed to retail for, but it seems a bit high for what you get. In summary: great concept/design, horrible execution/production quality.

Rubber tyre soles

This works well on work boots, probably too high for skate shoes. There is a product called Sikaflex, made by Sika corp made for sealing gaps in concrete. This is far more grippy than shoo goo, it is a soft urethane, grips to soles like nothing else. Wears down faster than origional sole, but easy to slap on some more. You can use an iceblock stick to scrape a grip pattern into it. Leave it for a couple of days to dry.

I've always liked truss-headed screws, the ones with over-sized rounded tops and flat bottoms. They really prevent pull-thru on the deck. This web page explains it all.

Paul K The shape of screw heads that I think you are referring to are called button-heads. You can pick them up at any industrial supply, or online at McMaster Carr's site or MSC's site. They should be available in coarse thread (#10-24) or fine (#10-32).

To clean my griptape I use windex and an old toothbrush. Its not too stiff so it wont take all of the grit off of your griptape.

Jake,
If your just trying to remove dirt and grime... try some warm soapy water and a bristol brush. Scrub lightly and use a cloth to "dab" away the dirty water... HR

I have a 48" sector nine pintail that I've had for awhile. Over the years of riding my grip has gotten rather ugly. There are spots of dirt from the bottom of my shoes. I was wondering if anybody knows how to clean grip without taking away the "gripyness" of the tape. Or do I have to buy special grip for the board. Thanks to all that respond.

DC Clear "high grip" soles

These shoes are scary, they're kind of new,so they may need breaking in,but the soft sole felt like it seemed to break up like a eraser while i was shifting my feet around looking for comfortable footing, they didn't feel like i could slide stop without my feet sliding off the side of my board. I've had other DC's Stevie Williams' shoes are a particularly great shoes, solid uppers, firm really grippy soles.Good grip right away uppers felt to stiff but broke in on the first walk up. 9.5 out of 10

Since the subject of griptape came up, I thougt I'd take the chance to mention that the griptape I swear by now comes in 4 levels of black grip and the super gritty clear, which you can see small print through, but not necessarily wood grain, but definitely v-lam stripes. Check out the griptape at http://www.beercity.com/skateboards/
