freeriding in France is good for you ;)

well, yes in fact in france we have 3 kinds of closed roads:
- what we call freerides is a certain number of events during the whole season, on closed road for 2 to 4 days, it's often taking place years after years, and we have the best fun! departure at 10 or 20 luges or skates, personnally I find it much more challenging that a qualification run on a orld cup ;). We a bus driving us up, safety in every corner, but no ranking and to timing system
- we have training tracks, its shorter roads all over france, closed 4 or 5 times during the year, either during one day, or two. same principle than a freeride, but many times during the year
- and of course we have races, the french championship
So you can have the best fun and never move from France, but it's so good to go on worldcup events also and see all the buddies from all over the world!
but this year, since I wanna save time and money for surfing, I won't do a lot of summer world cups! but for sure you'll see me on freerides, and on the roads in my area!
Tell us if you wanna come and discover the french alps, we'll show you!

Yeah, send me a board, I've got some cool ideas for some aero stuff. Especially after seeing the guy w/ the paddles. My friend Gerald, whom you met at Laguna Seca that time, works here again, and I can get ideas from him as well. I'll send the address.

I busted out the paddles to school Matt Franklin! Vail was the perfect hill for them. It was however more of a challenge than the BMW M5 was up to. Flindt told me that he nearly dropped the Safety meeting! His missing the finish line in the semi finals is documented forever in our DVD "Tuck", poor guy. Just heart breaking. Paddle on Rob! Do you think the paddles would help me in a cross town race?

Kerry, Thanx for the offer but I need to thin the herd myself. I would like to send you a board. The deck is one of a kind and with your help or expertise I would like to make it aero. I have access to some cool tools and will let you guys in the progress here. Nose fairing, bottom spoiler, stuff like that. A board not for racing but for mach++++ing! I saw Townshend Belle on a show called Supercar something? They shut down a road in Cali and let Townshend and this other guy race a 911, some Ferrari and a Lotus up and down the hill. Then they cut 2 these 2 guys luging the hill. I think some old schooler EDI guys (sorry, didn't RecOgnize) Dunn, how do you measure speed on the track? I have a set of Bear trux that are going on a board I've been putting together for a couple years. The deck I won for coming in last at THE BEAR so I'm trying to keep the bear theme. Can't decide on wheels, I hope to make a grizzly discovery. I've been looking for bear fur from the forest service or a taxidermist to finish it but there kinda stingy with the road kill. Joe, I have some Pass events coming up. That time trial to Copper and some crosstown stuff. Too far out to be anything but low key... Do you ever bust out the paddles in class?

Hey Rob, I'm not riding right now, should I send you my landyachtz board to bomb on? It's the race board with the Bear trucks and the Abec 11 wheels. It's also got a badass graphic on the bottom, but that's fluff. Let me know.

No Rob, the plane crash was the second year that we ran the US Nationals on Vail, and I think it was totalled too. Funny how neither year none of the racers got hurt or even fell! I still have this one good memory of trying to paddle you at Vail after being humiliated in our first ever heat at Pikes Peak. I beleive your comment was that "they'd probably be more effective on my girlfriend". I thought you were trying to pick a fight, but instead we both became friends and never did get to become EDI Pros. Oh Well!!

Jimmy, I was telling the story to Paul last night at work. Paul you remember was catching air in the Beemer and totaled it. Hell that's a good story. So, Vail race a couple years back I talked the...well no names. I got these 2 BMW suv's as support vehicles for the race. We where using them to move bails, riders, food, spectators, you name it. These cars soon looked like farm vehicles, straw all over them and just race junk. So my best friend is driving a beemer all day and when he gets to the top of the hill each time...I hope I can tell this story now...sorry Paul. There's some "Dukes of Hazard" stuff goin on. So after the event Paul picks up me and Flindt and drives to the top of the hill. While having a safety meeting in the back seat Paul gives us the "hey ya'll watch this" or "check this out" something like that. I remember floating away from the back seat while looking at Jimmy. That's too much info bout that. BMW girl cried when she saw the cars. I told them to contact me with the damage and what they would do to Paul or us. This guy came to my job and asked me to come outside and remove a sticker from the surviving suv, I remember it was a Comet sticker. He told me the other vehicle was totaled and going to Denver. sniffsniff. Was that the same year we had the plane crash? nuther good story. Never heard back from them. The following year Volvo turned us down and don't know why. It's actions like these that will give a bad name to our sport. So learn from me, don't ahh yeh I highly recommend getting crazy. I don't know about bags of flour in traffic, that's a lil extreme.
You all must check out Yvon Labarthe's video. Really cool footage of Thun last summer. There was so much rain the rodents moved to higher ground (the top of the hill) where our tents were. Then burrowed underneath, while you slept at night rat habitrails formed under you...buuwaaa!

Ya'll should come slowboarding. We got another foot last night and more today. I would like to sk8 and have been considering a treadmill. The NASCAR race in Cali yesterday was called due to rain but not the Downhill. Pretty cool sport we have. There was a report of a mysterious cloud on a Cali freeway, maybe a Colorado Super Cell. Mercado should have muffins coming outta his tailpipes for a while.
Congrats John on the victory. Looking forward to more details.
Has anybody been spinning those new Sector 9 Wheels?
BTK is my horse for Maryhill this year. Nice vid of you and Haven on that secret hill. Gone ridin

I can't say it enough how stoked I am to get together with the people I've met thru this great ride. To see posts from my friends from all over the World is like...hmmm...THE BEST! Luis, Thank you for the link to your site and I've always enjoyed surfing boardmag.com . I will print the schedule and stare at it wishing to attend just one of those events. Helene, A dozen of those events are in France and most are free rides. Are ya'll hitting the same hills time after time and do you have permission? Looks like a good season to be in France.
Hitting 60 mph on a snowboard is nothing like 60 on a skateboard. I've been doin lots of runs this week with the gps and ruining vacations. Sometimes slowing down is a bad thing, point it! peace

Rob we are so lucky, we have had the warmest winter in 250years so for the first time in 250 years we have bin riding in February. I even hit the 80k mark a few weeks ago riding the buttboard and have been training with Fredrik as often as I have been able to so next year maybe I will be on your tail all the time and not just “now and again” like last year I have a few new hills for you this year just out side of Stockholm and if you get your ass over here in may the team rides for free …at the Swedish nationals .. Be cool and get your ass over here this summer, the Volvo misses you and I still want to know the secret coin trick

I'm really stoked to have this chance to catch up with everybody I've met thru skateboarding over the years. WOW... thank you ncdsa. I still have the bug to race. I know there's that Cali Outlaw this weekend and I can't go, getting stir crazy so I dug out some toys.
I would like to bring my friend Kerry up to speed on the different boards in racing. The boards are facing L-R the top is a top mount and the normal/traditional set up. #2 is a drop thru, the baseplates are mounted on top and the hanger comes thru lowering the board also changing the leverage of the trux. #3 a lowered deck with angled truck mounts. The front steers and the back doesn't. #3 the EVO and has been on the podium since it was created. #4 a Dregs race I took to DHX later dropped/lowered. The South African flag there all sitting on was stolen from the roof of the hotel in Capetown. Warburton asked me not to take it knowing he would be blamed. So that was fast and it didn't cover the specifics of each board. I'm looking forward to riding that Landyatchz this spring. I had a set up for the "BIG HILL" that had a nose fairing and tail piece that I thru together with foam and tape. Crazy looking board, so playing with skirts at 70mph (huh) sounds awesome! Andreas, curious...how's the weather? Infamous in OZ Race in Cali this weekend! Some Mile Higher's are on the way. Have fun and travel safe. Gone riding.
