mowed Doug Dupin's lawn yesterday in DC as part of my Earth Day celebration using a gas powered, carbon emitting mower. To offset this I wore a 100% organic T-shirt. I also planted in the garden...Tobacco! No BS! So should I feel good about planting a crop that has destroyed so many lives but at the same time created so many jobs? Not just in it's production but kept the health care system alive? I'm going to go have a cigarette and think about this.
I was here 20 years ago on Earth Day to protest something or be a hippy or I forget, and the hippies forgot to show up. No hippies or protesters or anybody running around screaming "Save the planet!". I think because we are constantly reminded to save the Planet, but doesn't really catch on. Cigarette butts and trash line all the streets of the Capital. There are beautiful spots all over DC! Gardens, monuements, (how do you spell moneument, mon you mints?) More has to be done then making boards outta bamboo, or using solar panels to power your business. Good start but what about cleaning up the stuff already on the ground? I do try to leave a small footprint and skating doesn't produce many emissions (unless I drank a lot the night before) but the chemicals used to make my board make it more fun.
The last time I mowed the lawn it was court ordered, and the last time I littered? Can't remember. Pack it in Pack it out! Pick up your crap! If you get caught dropping trash there should be a rule that you have to clean up the whole block! Gone skating with Smallwood and Dupin. A better life thru chemicals!

You missed one hell of a rockin' party!!!!! The rockers, the bikers and the punks took over cherry creek! See ya soon.

The Pope's visit inspired the DC Government to repave Mass Ave, which happens to be the road that holds the Vatican Embassy and is one of DC's best downhill runs. I guess The Holy See's Popemobile couldn't handle the potholes.
We've been blessed!

Anthony I'm trying to call you also but Mable at the switchboard must be crossing our lines. I was on the Metro and saw these kids wearing funny Pope hats. The train was filled with people who just came from the service at the ballpark. Pope bobblehead dolls, Pope posters, Pope onna rope. The over-commercialization of his visit is distracting and a way to divert attention from the purpose of his trip; to bless my board.
There's a small church in Rapid City, South Dakota, called Church of the Hills. I skated up and went inside (I dodged a flurry of lightnening bolts) and met a small man who asked me if he could help me. "Dude, this is the church for me!" I explained my love for hills, showed him my board, and he promptly blessed me and my sk8. If ever in South Dakota look em up, and then go to Crazy Horse. There are many untapped hills in South Dakota and very few people, someday we'll be discussing the next event at Mt. Rushmore.
Grand Junction is a blast. National Monument and the surronding canyons should be dry and ready. Cool thing about Junction; hotels are cheap and the bars are withn sk8ing distance. I'll be out there in May.
Congrats Will Brunson!

It took 5 hours to get outta the mountains yesterday because of snow. There were accidents everywhere. I sat for 2 hours while tractors pushed semis too the side. A hiway worker asked me how my tires were as if he was going to turn me around for bologney skins. As I went into the tunnel my radio went out as expected 2 miles at the light at the end of the tunnel, reception came back to an emergency announcement that the tunnel was closed. I just got thru and saw carnage all the way to Denver. John the owner of Street Swell was telling me about those hills. He hit exit 243 the Central City exit at 7am on a Saturday. He said there were plenty of cool places but not alot of long runs but down, short up, long down, short up, some hiking. I dig investigating though. It's 3 am and I gotta Red Eye to catch, this cat sounds like it's coughing up a wig, too early to sit here and listen to that, rather go get felt up by TSA. Yeh that's gonna be fun flying into the same place as the Pope. Ankle grabbin. Smallwood can you call me, and anybody really, I lost all my #'s. More from the road coming up...

I'm glad to see ya'll posting here because my phone hasn't worked the last couple day's.
Anthony, I will be giving you a ring when I sort it out, but yeh lets shred the ghetto next week. I'm in town Tuesday maybe Wednesday.
Justin, That Central City run is going to have to wait and I'm stoke to hear that road is ridable. I just got done with work and won't make it tonight but can't wait to sk8 it. Some friends went up there and said it was pretty bitch'n, new hiway isn't it?
Yesterday was the last day for riding Vail. I rode down the mountain last night about 10:30 in the moonlight after playing with friends. I stopped several times to look down on the village and take in the beauty of riding alone on a perfect night. I didn't want to get to the bottom, just keep riding, carving and turning. I stopped one final time and was taken back by how lucky I am. Every turn on my final run was done with a huge grin on my face, and the tear in my eye was because I couldn't ride with my goggles on at night. Every turn was for those who can't. I felt very humbled and fortunate, and miss the people who had already made there last run. Go make turns for the people who can't. peace

I'll be driving across the US with National Geographic photographer David Alan Harvey to assist on a photo project. We will be zig-zaging all over to shoot portraits of American families for a book and traveling exhibition. Anyone want to take part, email me. I already plan on shooting the Kludy and O'Shei Families (if they're up for it) and anyone else that wants to go before the lens.

yo Rob, haven't been up here in awhile but word on the street is, you're coming to DC sometime soon. I've got some sweet runs on the rougher side of town and I can't seem to get any locals to join me. Ian's been there and O'Shei as well. I can only seem to convince visitors...probably because they don't know any better. hahahahaha!! I promise you'll be safe!
Just missed DT, O'Shei and Olson last week, but I hope to catch everyone in ABQ next week.

So I'm digging out my gear and packing for a couple weeks goin coast to coast then I hope to get to Ditch Slap. I will try to hit the next Cali Series event if anybody can help with a ride please let me know. Last time I was there Casey you mentioned you were hitching to New Mexico, get to the Colorado border and I will pick you up.
It must have been a Sandia All Around event, it was the weekend after Danger Bay 4? I had my roommate give me a head start to Leadville, Colorado to trek down to Sante Fe. I had a huge backpack and 2 boards one with a custom graphic that said "SOUTH". I hitched pretty quickly thru the mountains, you get lots of fisherman, kayaks, climbers and outdoorsy folks. I got to the start of potato country down south of Salida and the road forks. Kids, when hitchiking ALWAYS! STAY ON THE MAIN ROAD!
An old leatherneck was goin my way but he was taking the old hiway (kids!) It's a short cut to Alamosa and there ain't nothing out there but the gas station I sat at for 2 hours with no traffic. Then, like every dust hitchiking movie you've ever seen, a cloud with a grill and headlights came outta the distance. This car was one of a very, none that had passed while I baked in the sun. A salty looking hispanic man got outta of a big black car, still thinking I'm an extra in this road warrior movie I had to ask for a ride to Alamosa just to get the hell outta here. We exchanged greetings he offerd me a smoke and I rolled a joint and offered him a smoke. He laughed and told me he didn't like to go slow but fast, and while steering with his belly pulled out a bill filled with a white powdery substance. He mentioned something about most of the blow being hidden in the oil pan of the car and I realized this guy was higher than my joint could get him. We got to Alamosa in record time and he dropped me off in the middle of town. I walked thru town very fast and found myself again at a crossroads with little traffic.
I stood there again baking in the sun for too long, If I hadn't have been desperate I woulda let this ride go. This small Ford Escort like car with a man who could barely fit behind the wheel asked me where I was going, and then said he could take me for 20bux. Right On! I think it was 4-5 hours with this guy talking about his recent breakup and how depressed he was. He cried, at times beat the steering wheel and would then start laughing. The ashtray was overflowing and this guy just chain smoked while half my gear sat on my lap to protect me in case he started stabbing me in the chest. The blow dealer was a pussycat compared to this guy. I pretty much had to talk the guy down the whole way to Sante Fe and once there he didn't wanna say goodbye.
I met up with Flindt and JimZ at skate school, they had just drove down from Danger Bay. I spent the weekend riding ditches, preparing for safety meetings and making friends.
The guys from Afroman were there and after the weekend were making a tour thru southern Colorado. Greg Stubbs was driving a big black Suburban and had room for me on his way to Salida. We were in a tight travelling caravan; black Suburban, black full size van, and black Crown Victoria. We looked so CIA flying down the hiway, all black, black windows, cranking Slayer!!! We would stop for gas or a pee brake and people would roll up there windows, hide there kids. We got to Trinidad sk8 park and I saddled up for the next leg. Afroman was heading west and I was goin north, so they left me at the on ramp while they sk8ed the park. I sat at the on ramp there entire session and saw Stubbs and the crew fueling up at the station. I walked over to see if I could get them to take me to the next exit since the ramp I was on sucked. Salida is home of the sex change doctor everybody goes to when the just feel trapped inside somebody elses, I dunno! but I would be better of hitching next to a prison. A young lady who was keen on one of the Afrokids was getting the heave HO and heading back to New Mexico. I asked her for a lift to the next rest area and before she could stop talking about how this guy was a jerk we had passed the rest area. One of the few times I was glad a chick didn't shut up while driving. Once she figured out she had passed the exit she outta nowhere says she'll take me to Denver cause her sister lives there! Awesome! Chick want stop talking and is flighty as hell! Here's one, Why go to Denver when you can come to my house in Vail and go snowboarding for a couple days? We made a left and got to my house that evening and chairlifts the next day. This story has been extremely edited to protect me! Maybe around the campfire or at the bar we can share. I was really lucky to meet Stubbs and travel back in luxury cranking Slayer and sharing sk8 stories. Let me know if your traveling this way.Gotta go pack...
