(sip) before I forget...Push race Legend Robin McGuirk (EastsideLongboards) won the Cross Island Race. Yes a cross island race, 7.5 miles across Puget Island. Michael Dong won the slalom in a great battle with Zak Maytum. This event will happen again and you will be pissed if you don't go to Cathlamet! Gnarly...

I had a great time announcing the event. This little town on the Columbia River let all of us shut down Main Street and race through town. Course is Gnarly (sip)!! Really pretty spot. The racing was VERY exciting. K-Rimes, Maytum, Switzer, Kelly, Morrow, and quite a few more fast big names. Some of the locals actually knew who these guys where and some on track betting took place. If I can remember the final...Kelly went into the off camber left outta the high speed chicane flat left with Patrick sweating him pretty hard. Both riders set their drift and Switzer hooked up boards with "the American dream" while putting his hand on James' back. Switzer pulled a sweet Canadian move and left James behind and in the hay. Patrick had nowhere else to go and James shouldn't have been in front of him. 500 dollars cash!! That came from Rip City SKates. Dave Mitchell crashed behind James while I'm pretty sure Casey also put it in the hay. James got up in time to still get 2nd and I forgot the rest. I still haven't got much sleep but I think Robin tangled with Kevin at Coffin Corner. Yes there was a funeral home at the last 90 degree left. Zak crashed in his semi final. The hill was gnarly (sip) I wanna say quick thanx to the Cathlamet town folk who came out to watch and helped Bill the Kid pull this off. Next year they really want to blow this thing up and wait til you guys see the course! Gnarly (sip) I probably got all the race info wrong but gotta run now. Thanx for reminding eerbody to wear lids and I will have to come back and type who to thank for this weekend. pdxdownhill.com peace

helmets save lives! My friend hit his head on a guard rail yesterday and his helmet did the job, i also used my helmet because I crashed because he crashed.... his damn board went right in front of me and I didnt see it until the last second and i hit the back of my head pretty good, but i was wearing a helmet.
I hope Tom is ok and back on his board soon!

Tom - glad you had a good helmet on and I am sure your loved ones and friends are glad also. The rest of the body will hopefully heal back in time and you will be skating again just as hard and determined to go faster. Hope to see pics of you up and skating soon.

Grundy here and just want to say thanks for the kind words. The young people we met boarding in Alaska were tough! Had more scars than I do (had to ask if they were from fighting Bears or skateboarding) they were neat to listen to and fun. These boards are made to ride, don't just hang them on the wall, take em out and cruise - what's the sense in owning a Ferrari if you can't push it right!
Remember (as I said to Dave Dillburg that day at Signal Hill) - No Balls No Blue Chips, you don't make it to the bottom of the hill you collet No stamps.
little did we know how true that was.

I don't know what to think of the new generation of downhill riders who know the specs of every product out there and don't know the history of this sport. I've met so many "newbies" who know all this off the wall info about truck geometry and wheel duro's but couldn't tell ya who we owe so much to the design. I'm always stoked to talk with the history makers of our sport. The Roger's Bro's, Chris Chaput, Marcus Rietama, Cliff Coleman, Rick Kludy, Waldo Autry, Tony Alva and too many other folks who would blow any kids mind. You can't forget the past and to think most kids getting into bombing hills are more worried about what color griptape is the fastest or how to come up with a cool web name, there are living legends out there to remind us what this sport is really about. Quite an honor to have Guy post up here and to think some of us might have the time and money to go bomb hills in Alaska! Guy I only wish I could get to ASR and have you sign a deck that would never see the road. I hope anybody who can make to the show makes it a point to shake your hand and say thank you. Beastcoastlongboarding I hope to get down there for some of that Penn State action. I have the Cathlamet this weekend and then onto Maryhill to get my butt kicked by all those newbs with fast griptape and cool user names. Malakai's real name is Robert. Bearings don't win races. Sometimes you have to slow down to win. Helmets save lives. Don't hold up the shuttle. Thank every course worker you pass. Don't judge Jim Callahan. Turn off the computer and go skate!!!

Hey Rob! I just wanted to inform you of some small East Coast stuff going down in the next couple of months. On September 19th-20th weekend, Sean Graves and I are going to be hosting a little session just to get everyone together and have a good time. We're going to be meeting in Clearfield at Sean's house Saturday morning to ride the hills around there, and then we will be coming back to State College on Saturday night for a parking deck race. After the race we will pack up and go up into the mountains to camp and party. In the morning we will wake up and ride the mountain. If you want to come down for this, let me know. I will be going to Sean's in the morning from here on Saturday. You know you're welcome anytime.
Then on Halloween weekend in October we will be going to Harrisburg for the Second Annual Pennsyltuckey Derby. Its going to be a really great race to be at with a ton of awesome guys and really good competition. Give me a call if you need any information or anything. Hope the Roc is treating you well man. Ride on brotha.

Hey all, I love this site, you guys and gals out there riding downhill are still kickin it and some of the video's I have seen on here are HOT ! Just wanted to let you all know that SKATEWHAT released a NEW model off my 1975 World Record Downhill board just this past week. The board is bitchen and with the new products of today this baby is going to be fast. They built 30 Limited Edition boards. They are giving me #1 at the ASR Show in San Diego Sept. 11th and I was told this morning that numbers 2 through 6 and number 8 are already sold. I will be in San Diego like I stated above so if you would like to stop by and say hello that would be GREAT!
P.S. just got back from Alaska - there are some frickin HUGE hills up there to ride.

I'm still trying to unpack and just take a lil me time to get adjusted but that can't happen. Gotta get a job and move stuff and learn where to buy food and holy xxxx! moving isn't easy. Good for the brain though. I had such comfort in knowing where my lighter was and when to catch the bus and where not to skate.
I really am stoked to investigate the skate scene out here and see the East Coast and Mid Atlantic has a crew that is passionate about riding boards. I hope to see and be involved in bringing back some of those lost events: Demons of Downhill, Mount Ascutney, DC Downhill, Mount Augmenticus, that one in West Virginia, Top Challenge, Munnsville and any of those other events I can't spell.
Got my ticket to the Portland race, another I can't spell...Kalamuth Calamuth Calamath??? And then to Maryhill!!! See you on the hill!! thanx again to Dave Price and my crew who waited 7hours at the Canadian border to get me into Paskapoo.
SkunkTech will be testing our new topmount in time for Mary.

So the car made it, well most of it. Some parts fell off in various mid western states. Nebraska is big and Iowa smells but thank goodness for 100 oz beverages. If the Dew doesn't keep you awake the need to pee every 50 miles will have you pulling over. I almost pee'd myself a couple times. I now understand why you see so many pee colored Gator Aide bottles.
I got to Penn State in time for the Outlaw event and enough sleep to skate the following day. The kids out here are putting on events often and nice to find a crew to skate with. Thanks again to Jamie for the bed and the race.
I now realize I haven't posted since the Vail Pass Ride and forgot to thank EEErbody for coming out. Quite fun to say goodbye to Rado with the crew I will miss. Brent from Aspen brought the big van for us to shuttle in and we couldn't have done it without him.
I'm super busy with SkunkTech and moving in and getting ready for the Cathalmet Downhill and then onto Maryhill. I will be at the same number and please stay in touch. You guys remind me all the time that people not involved with skateboarding are so uncool. See you on the hill.

Congatulations Robbie! A genuine born-a-female woman! She's a lucky lady, and I wish you both much happiness. Now go buy a ring, like a big boy. Just celebrated my first anniversary. Waiting for hubbie to get orders, only God and the US Army know where. Hanging in VAB till mid August, then gonna' spend some time in OBX NC enjoying the real beach. My Boy graduates fron Defense Info School in Sept. and will join us in NC for a bit of R&R. After that, who knows. Thank God for joint forces, I have at least a prayer of winding up somewhere near water if we get posted to a Navy or Marine Corps duty station, Keep your fingers crossed for me. What I REALLY want is to go overseas. Anywhere in Europe would be killer.Where in NY will you be? Madeleine says HI! Bonnie, too. All the best all the time to you, my friend.
