Oil in 30 years

I'm retiring at the age of 75 in 30 years. I hope by then that petroleum is no longer used as a primary source of energy for automobiles, and that urethane remains an inexpensive and available product. I haven't looked into any alternatives yet, which is not to say that I won't. We haven't even seen how good urethane can be.

Have you or anyone else ever tried making doublewides out of 70's flashbacks, since they are already sideset, or tried it with any other wheels for that matter?

what they said in 1971-1975 about what petrolium supplies would be like in thirty years.Well it's thirty years later and,NO no this time we mean it, no petrol in thirty years. Possible substitutes are interesting though, i think when the fuel and electricity production is substituted for and it may be a bit easier to do,we're a bit closer (mostly because it is a bigger priority) then having oil left to make skateboard wheels and other urithane products won't be a problem. If ten years from now half the cars, trucks and buses are running hybred on corn oil, hydrogen cell and electricity, wind ,solar,or even neuclear,a little fraction of all that saved oil can keep us in wheels for a long time.

alternatives for wheels(square, triangle?)

hey chaput, this is a rather odd question, but i figure if somebody has the answer it would be you...
given the fact that petroluem and oil will be either gone or way to economically exspensive to exstract from the earth in 30-50 years, has there been any research into non-petrolum based products that can replace urethane? i'm sure you probably have'nt looked into this to closely, but perhaps you know of somebody who has? are any alternatives being thought of, are any alternatives even possible, would they even be able to compete in terms of grip, speed, wear with hi-quality 'thane?
just wondering...

Strickers

I like to put a pair fo Strickers on the front end for TS. Mostly for straight course with very little offset.
I like the narrower profile. I just replaced the 4 I left in Europe because of the weight restrictions on my flight. I will likely use them in Paris for the Straight Slalom race.
At least this year when the weather allows it I will be able to do some equipment testing and cut down on the wheels I take with me to a race.
I had a chance to test Chappy new Zig Zags and Retros in Texas and they are great. I'm anxious to do some testing on them with some of the other stuff I've used along the with the Abec line over the last few years.

There was a special fog-resistent material that only came in rose (red) or gray. I wanted to see things "lit up" more than shaded, so I chose the rose.

Hey Chris, I've noticed from pictures that most of your helmets have a red tinted face sheild. Is there a purpose for this or is just because its pure hotness?

I talked to both Kenny and my wife. April is better than May for me, and so I just booked my flight. I have a non-stop Delta red-eye out of LAX at 11:40pm on Friday, putting me in Columbus (CMH) on Saturday morning (raceday) at about 7:00am. There's a non-stop return flight at 5:50pm on Sunday evening making it a short but sweet slalom weekend. I think there will be a GS and a Hybrid that weekend, so a 6 wheeler and a midsize 4 wheeler will be coming with me.
Anyone else from LA/OC? Bueller?

Abec 11 Strikers

Strikers were were designed for controlled sliding at speed, as opposed to something that has better traction but slides less predictably. You want to choose your durometer based on a few things, such as the condition of the roads you'll be riding, the amount of smoothness and traction that you want or the amount of slide.
The worse the surface, the more a soft wheel (75a, 78a) will help. The more the need for speed on asphalt, the more a soft high-rebound wheel (75a, 78a, 81a) will help. The more the need for predictable sliding and/or the better the surface, the more a firmer wheel (84a, 88a) will help.
An 81a Striker is a fantastic all-around longboard wheel.

April or May in Columbo

It's a preference thing, really. April will be a hybrid, probably a little bit loose depending on what kind of crowd shows up ...but it'll be fast if it's like the ones set up last year May will be true TS...which will be gnarly and fast as hell on this hill... May will be a bit warmer too....Either one's iffy for rain, but Sunday's the rain day so you may wanna stretch it that extra day just in case
Choose your poison....looks like your killin' it no matter what it is.

There's a good chance that I can make one in either April or May. The March one is coming up a bit too soon, and June 24th and 25th is a crazy overlapping race day. Which would be better, April or May?

i see some new flipper wheel cores that are actually softer than the surrounding material the core is between the bearings and comes out to the rounded over edges of the wheel, not quite on the riding surface. it splits the hard part of the wheel into three parts, the center one is trapped between two flanges of softer urithane, the other two parts are the lips and they depend on the urithane/urithane bonding, there may be small holes they dont's show in their cataloge, but i thought that an inverse of the durometer arrangement and a considerably softer riding urithane might make an interesting dh wheel, controlling the lateral flex of the tread all the way to the riding surface, and leaving soft lips for transitions over cracks an things. Or have the hard lips come out on the riding surface, maybe resisting flatspots, though i have conflicting thought about whether hard urithane would necessarily be tougher against flatspots than well formulated soft stuff.

84a Grippins is a great all around slalom wheel, and 83a (Lemon) ZigZags will also rock your world. Grippins are centerset, and ZigZags are offset. If you get either, you will not be up-set. It really depends on your set-up. Grippins will make the track width a bit narrower...

I'm going to be ordering Grippins for my GS board and I need help deciding on a duro. I'm 170lbs if that helps a little bit and I just want a duro that can be used on different pavement types. This is going to be my only set of slalom wheels, so I need something that I can use on different courses and pavements. So pretty much an all-around slalom duro. Thanks.

Chris,
Just wanted to express my appreciation for coming out with the Retro Zig Zags! I recently put a couple of sets on my oldschool Dogtown and Zflex boards to hit the local parks with my son--all the youngsters say I'm skating in stealth mode--fast and very quiet! Can't wait to put a set of the 70's on my longboard! Thanks again!!
