PUMP STATION OUTLAW RACE NUMBER V RESULTS
On 6/6/2005 HACKETT - BLACK LEATHER RACING wrote in from United States  (68.71.nnn.nnn)

RADIKAL OUTLAW PUMP STATION RACE V RESULTS:

Sunday June 6, saw the fifth race of the Radikal Outlaw Pump Station Series.
I showed up at the course to set the timer at around 9:30 to find a hissing, coiled, and rattling 8 y.o. Rattle snake ready to bust a can of venom on my ass – I knew then, this was gonna’ be a wicked day of racing.

Chicken showed up next, then Olson and we all went to work on setting the course and getting the "Kramer Timer" set up. Since we had never set up that timer and we were with Lynn or Tiger, we had a lot of guess work to do before we got it right. Consequently, instead practice at 11:00, we opened practice at 12:00 and started the race at 1:00.

Eager racers started showing up, paying entry fees and immediately getting down to business. The field was not as deep as some of the last races, but the hardcore talent was there all gunning for the Cash, the Bragging rights and ultimately – The Ring.

Surprise entrants included Vert Legend and 4 Time World Mastership Vert Title holder Tony Mag (and his Dog Barkley who followed him down the course a few times), All around Gravity team rippers Brad Edwards and Jesse Parker also showed up to participate and looked fast even on their non-slalom set ups.

In the first round, current points leader Mike Maysey blazed the high speed Giant Hybrid course with a time of 28.79 – The only sub 29 time at that early stage of the competition.
Radikal team Captain Keith Hollien smoked the course with a 29.51 to blow some minds.

In the second round The Brown Bomber answered Maysey’s lead with a 28.89, until Brent Kosick rolled a 28.65 to slap them both down. Meanwhile, Evans, Olson Chicken and Hackett battled it out with times of 29.70-Evans; 29.43-Olson; 29.10-Chicken and 29.55-Hackett.

These battles continued through out the day with each racer changing up wheels and set ups to find that perfect combination that would put him on top of the competition.

About midway in the day, Kosick set the fastest time of the day with a 28.41 and Hollien got a little squirrelly and wend down hard at the end of the course. Fortunately, Keith is ok, but might be a bit sore for next weeks’ Colorado Cup.

In the end, we all got in about 10 runs in 2.5 hours and everyone raced hard, had a blast, and went fast, fast, and faster!

The final results: Taken by 2 best COMBINED times- best time in bracket.

MAYSEY – 57.00 (28.49)
KOSICK - 57.06 (28.41)
CHICKEN – 57.48 (28.72)
EVANS - 57.53 (28.67)
BOMBER – 57.99 (28.89)
HACKETT – 58.38 (29.15)
OLSON - 58.43 (29.00)
BUDRO - 59.09 (29.47)
HOLLIEN - 59.57 (29.51)
KEALON - 59.80 (29.67)
MERCADO – 60.02 (29.96)
CORNING - 60.06 (29.91)
ROGERS - 63.39 (31.08)
EDWARDS – 64.12 (31.93)
PARKER - 65.33 (30.52)
BRUZENAK –65.71 (32.11)

Honorable mentions go out to Sector Nines’ Jeff Budro for another top ten finish! The “Dudbro” just keeps getting faster and faster at every race. Also Michael Kealon is still improving, and Jon Corning came on strong and show great style around the cones to take 12th.

All in all, it looks like Maysey is the new force in GS and will be hard to stop from taking this series title and Championship ring. This win makes it a “Three Peat” for the young lad! But let’s not forget Kosick though, who has placed on the podium at every race the entire series winning more dough than anyone.

Who would have thought that these two guys would be battling it out for the top spots at an OUTLAW GS? – Not me, that’s for sure. Huge props to both these guys for charging it hard and forcing all of us to “Man Up” and go faster.

I would like to give HUGE PROPS and a MAJOR THANKS to all our sponsors, especially RADIKAL TRUCKS, POCKET PISTOL SKATES, SECTOR NINE, and KHIRO SKATEBOARD PRODUCTS! Also Black Leather Racing, 3Dm Wheels, Manx Wheels, Deathbox Skateboards, Just Push Play.com, Osiris shoes, Gladiator Gear, Image Entertainment and California Hybrid and Deathbox Skateboards!

Big thanks to Lynn Kramer for the best timing system we have ever used.

“Brian” was our official starter, and “Tim” did a great job on timing everyone.

Come on down to the last and final RADIKAL OUTLAW RACE #VI and MAJOR 4RTH OF JULY WEEKEND RACE!! SUNDAY, JULY 3RD, 2005!

BE THERE.

nah, don't sweat it Greg. That loser had it coming to him. He's probably to lazy to even golf. (a typical computer nerd who thinks he knows everything) I think he's been sufficiently scolded. He's probably picked up his hostess cupcakes and moved on to troll on some other forum. No life except his job and kids. I swear if it ever came to that for me, I'd put a gun to my head. Skating is such an individual expression where all that is left behind, that he's just jealous. You make an interesting point about skiing though. It's really the same thing, yet THAT seems to still be ok. Hmmm....

old guys skating or playing golf or skiing or bowling or ....
On 5/27/2005 Greg Olsen wrote in from Canada  (206.172.nnn.nnn)

Hopefully John Livingston is no longer trolling.....why would he bother? Why would he bother to comment? Why would he be even looking at this site if he did not have some nostalgic interest in skating? "Hmm I wonder what the heroes of my youth are doing these days?" He sees they are still out there rolling around on toys. Incredulous, he mocks them.
Well I sort of understand the reaction. I got back on a skate last fall. For awhile I was embarassed to be seen on it in the affluent neighbourhood I live in (I bought in BEFORE it became affluent). The guys walking out to their BMWs still look right through me as I pass within feet of them...even after I have said, "It beats jogging!", or "Hi" or whatever...But as I spent more time skating the expertise I had 25 years ago returned, and it did not take long, I began to remember how GOOD it makes me feels to fly down a piece of asphalt with the board turning back and forth beneath me. I began to play at the edges of traction, to tweak the pump for the extra accelleration to experiment with various wheels and trucks. HOW is this any different than skiing, which does not end automatically at age 18? How is the subtle tweaking of performance any different than the endless variation of grip and stance, swing and clubs that occurs in golf? Consequences perhaps. A fall in golf usually is fatal too though....heart attack. Skiers die every year at all ages from hitting trees though don't they? It too has consequences. The street scene and the 'lifestyle' of thuggery and indolence that seems to accompany it perhaps has given all skateboarding a bad name. The gentler longboard set would change that perspective if there were enough of them.
Doing something well at any ages gives self-esteem. That is why we pursue recreational activities at some level. For some, recreation is just putting in time with fiends or the family but at all ages excellence is still sought and the pursuit of excellence is still respected and valued. My 72 year old father is an awesome golfer. He has never turned down his enthusiasm for the great shot or the perfect putt. He has never evolved it into a milder social past-time. For that he is thought of as a bit rude and obnoxious...whatever... he still has a single digit handicap. Everything he does and plans is around golf. It is his value system. It is a value system supported by the Country Club and the wealthy and elite who invest so much into golf and the clubs that it requires. But really it is a silly little game. Listen to Robin Williams 'history of golf' stand-up piece. Its killer funny and lampoons golf into the ridiculous. ANYTHING can be lampooned into the ridiculous. Anything can be found to have flaws, to be lacking. But finding flaws is the OPPOSITE of tolerance and what this society is supposed to be based on. America and Canada embrace diversity. It is out heritage. Putting people down is not.

So the older guys who were the stars of our youth continue to be the 'elite' of the sport. Just as I still revere the skiing stars of my youth, I know they are still on the slopes kicking ass...but privately... but they too have the occassional 'old guys' race. My brother-in-law is 45 and has for years been 1st or 2nd in elite 'citizen' racing in Jasper. The guy he swaps the top of the podium with on a yearly basis is a much younger 20-something retired member of the Canadian National Ski Team. The skate stars on this site too are still kicking ass 'privately' but slalom skating MEANS competing so there are competitions.

So I got over my embarrassment of skating on my front street. The nice neighbours smile and wave. The majority think I am a retard or don't care. Ultimately not caring...living and let living is the best I can hope for: tolerance of diversity. I get a lot of pleasure and esteem from skating. Self-steem is transferable too. My wife notices I am happier these days. It is like a long lost Savings Bond found in the back of a drawer and cashed in years later. We older skaters are reaping the benefits of the hours of investment we made as youths. I do NOT have the time to learn any new activity from scratch at this point in my life. Pulling skaing out of the drawer and being pretty good at it right away has made me feel great, gets me kudos from the younger set and I am getting fit too. How could any activity be better and more rewarding? Rock on Hackett and Olson.
