heres my lowdown for next year:

Brixlegg located in Austria inbetween munich and innsbruck
famous for its skatepark THE CRADLE.
brixlegg has one big tourist attraction:the skatepark
and brixlegg has a damn cool mayor and some damn cool locals

i'm not talking smack
vans carhartt eastpak will be the big sponsors for this event next year
slated for july 22 23
just trying to set new standards,hopefully others will follow

a race shouldn't be longer than 2 or 3 hours. That's the time, which people can spend on one place. After 2 hour's is boring. The best 30 raiders are atractive for the spectators, and the times are really close...
In Grueningen we had 92 raiders. We needed 5 hour's and we had every time 16 bracket's excepting the junior's class.
We have enough big contests in the world now. What we need are the smal one's. Only for the amateurs... No one skated in Grueningen before two year's. Now we have 10 Kids between 12 and 18 year's. And they go 3 times a week to practice slalom. They come to my home and ask for the cones. That's the future, but it needs for shure 10 year's to have a big sceen again.
Our konzept is to have 1 or 2 big races and a small amateurs series with 3-4 race's. The small races will go over 2-3 hour's and should have around 30 rider's, hopefully more and more from year to year...
The plan for 2006:
Grueningen in June as every year.
Hinwil in August/September 2006
it will be a night GS race with live tv-production on a big screen on the race side. perhaps a 3 day event.

yea ive been watchen old vids like skate board madness and what not and ive notticed too that i seems like the sport has decreased. in the 70's TS cones were like 4 or 5 feet apart now there like 6 or 7 feet.(but then again im only 15 and thats just what ive herd and it might just be bull s#@!). so my idea is to,,, well i dont have an idea but i invite everyone to come to columbs ohio labor day weekend for a GS/Hybride/TS or what ever the hell course u wana make. it will be at the dirby hill. stop by the gong for more information.

Hey, Hmmmm, Thanks for that idea, I've got several good spots to see if that flies with the Corvallis City Parks-n-Rec and Copshop. There is also a junior college and OSU that are always looking for classes in their recreation departments.
What I might do is plan ahead, buy a schload of Khiro wedge risers, bushings,tools, kinpin-replacements and extra long mounting hardware for people to purchace at-cost and a box of my old coned down wheels to run a slalom clinic. Adios- Paul

Growing the sport...it's been the same thing over and over and i've only been doing this for less than 2 years...(and i'm 41)....Part of the problem is growing the sport could attract people that take away from the fun of it. Part of what's good now is that most of the skaters are good people to know...
And if you start inviting allot of people to your hill, they can jack it up for everybody that's been coming there right along.
So....here's the thought
I called the Parks And Rec people in our city. I assume most places have parks and recreation depts that have community stuff like kids soccer, baseball camps, computer classes, basket weaving, yadda yadda yadda.
I told the guy i'd like to set up a "sidewalk surfing/skate racing" camp and pretty much just gave him the lowdown of slaloming. no ollies, no detroying public property, using the terrain around you, setting your board up right, wearing safety gear, all that.....he was interested and said he wanted to know more.
So what we have here, if this flies, is working with the city, inviting whoever wants to come try it out to sign up, the teacher getting paid to do it (and giving that cash back to the friends who joined up as well, and the bunch of us actually getting a hill to ride with the cities blessing instead of thinking the cops may come shut us down on any given session.
Parks and Rec...
Kinda the slaloming "outreach" program...

you'll get your share of kids entering a contest next year in brixlegg-if you come.prepare for some scary s#@!.the park is your terrain for the death race.
hit the cradle at 11.00 to get around the cone.pure speed,adrenaline rushes all the way ón each course.

We can't make a race quicker really but we could divide it in 2 so that you have training and qualify one day. Then you have finals only at day 2. Probably just top 8, maybe top 16 all else is too slow. Ams? I don't think so. Too slow.
Biggest issue rigth now though is that every race that is held, is held by a racer. A racer that probably would like to attend the race. Where else does this happen? How many golf tournamets have Tiger Woods put togheter, did Kelly Slater arrange the last stop on the WCT - I don't think so.
Sooo it's a good initative but there must be staff that are working with this full time to make it happen. Perhaps it's possible, it would be awesome!

Most of the races that I go to are a lil scary, in the real world of events.
No crowds, no growth. No money, no future. Lame locations, lame results.
No kids, no way of advancing the sport. Not to hard to figure out.
To long, lose the spectators, fast. Brain surgery... no, didn't think so.
I just don't understand why it seems like it hasn't advanced since 78...

Mr McCree & Mr Hackett, guys, why don't you direct the aims you have of your SRA org through the International Skateboard Slalom Assoc. Why not create a pro level from within ISSA rather than create just another slalom organisation? Surely slalom will be stronger as a result? Yeah it might complicate your angle but its going to be better in the long run to have one umbrella organisation rather than 'the euros' and 'the americans' like its always been in every sport ever.

Hey, Times have changed since the 70's for sure, but I remember being stoked as hell seeing skateboarding of any kind on ABC, CBS, or NBC when I was a kid back then. My friends and I talked about it for weeks afterward and it pumped us up big time about seeing it. AND IF IT WAS SOME FORM OF SKATING WE WERE'NT ALREADY DOING, WE H-A-D TO TRY IT BECAUSE IT LOOKED SO COOL. I agree with the rating/accessability issue as well. I remember 2-3 years ago, slalom was'nt even on techno flipper kid's radar screen at all. Now, even though they don't do it, when they find out I do it, they say things like "That's rad dude, all you older guys ripping it hard on that stuff, I'd like to try that sometime". So they've seen it somewhere and are getting curious. Something else, there's more techno and park riding kids starting to get a yearning for a connection to skating's roots that 2 "skateboarding" magazines largely ignore if it goes back before 1985. These kids are finally starting to see the bigger picture and the history thanks to a few skateboard history books and videos out there as well as Juice and Concrete Wave magazines. They're starting to realize racing is not only history, but that RACING IS A LIVING, BREATHING PART OF THE CURRENT SKATEBOARDING SCENE! And these kids are starting to get tired of seeing the same old images handed to them page after page, month after month, year after year. So even if it's a mainstream channel, I say do it! NBC's core audience may be the golf/football I need a nap it is after 3pm crowd but recently (this summer) they have been showing niche sports, along with CBS. This summer on NBC I have seen Lacrosse, poker, darts (yes world cup darts), pool (billards) and water polo...along with niche sports like endurance/eco racing, triathalon and distance running. All of the above have been shown during prime time Sat/Sun afternoon noon-6pm blocks, more so earlier in the summer when NBC doesn't have NASCAR. CBS has been showing Formula-one (badly but it was on), and other variou non baseball/football/golf/basketball type things.
In fact I remember reading an article in (I think) Wired.com or NYtimes (around May) about how NBC sports is exploring less mainstream sports in prime weekend time slots. As I remember the article said they were on the outlook for new activites and sports and were getting decent ratings for these type things.
NBC, even on a bad afternoon gets more ratings that FUEL, EXPN/ESPN action sports or some such cable network could ever dream. Slalom (FCR 02 series, La Costa & Avila/Morro) has been on Fox sports (regional) FUEL and such channels with little or no real benefit. I have no issue with trying to find interest in those routes but I thing going for a major network like NBC is much much better.
OLN is a logical place for slalom as well. However something like 20% of US TVs get OLN. While 100% of US TVs get NBC, CBS, ABC (in local or cable)....

Now I get it....damn, I guess I better go practice....On a more serious note, I have recently started to get to know some people on that list so I think its cool that is the goal. Hack...Mark mentioned NBC as a potential venue for televised slalom, Why NBC? Their key viewer demographic for sports are people older than McCree, and usually interested in mind numbing team sports or watching Tiger chase a ball. If you want to have appeal to youth you need to go on FSN, espn or one of the more viable venues for a younger crowd.
How about having a key true HD company film at the last major races of the season(not a bunch of kooks with prosumer HD gear) and build archive footage, then use the off months to film the stories of the key racers, then come race season next year you shoot at the first event, then put it all together and create a show to get on Fuel, FSN, ESPN or OLN...then people who are interested will be fed what you want them to digest and the sport has a chance to grow thru the masses

Good question Marion. Our main focus will be the top 32 Professional Racers and getting a top Pro Event Series Happening and Televised ASAP.
However, we do realize that the future of Skateboard Racing (or any sport) is in the youth participants. We want to make a Pro tour so exciting, and challenging that today's youth will aspire to BE a top Pro Racer some day...

Reading with interest the posts regarding SRA. Will it be an organization that will be open to amateurs as members or is it just focused on professional skaters? Just curious. Working on plans for our races both this Fall, which will be a BASIC rated race and down the road.

To all of you Pros out there,
I am going to race Pro this year in the Super Giant Slalom. Jack says he will start the race on the steep section this year. This suits me fine. I'm wondering, how many of you will I knock off at the Worlds? I'm 55, I go to the movies for the Senior discount. I've got a bum left foot and I don't practice. My goal is to take down as many of you as I can! Think about it, if you loose to me, what excuse can you use about racing an old guy? Sincerely, it's an honor to race as a Pro.
