Q&A: HACKETT & OLSON on RIDING (1085 Posts) Topic Info New Park Race Format On 10/31/2006 LBR wrote in from United States  (72.165.nnn.nnn) At the Halloween Havok Skate Contest this past weekend we had a "Pumpkin Carving Contest." (get it?) In place of cones we used orange plastic Jack-O-Lanterns. I've held a skatepark race at Boulder Park before, and while it was fun, it's long and boring for the spectators to watch a bunch of dudes run the same line over and over. This time we switched it up a bit. There were twelve pumpkins (cones) on all of the prominent features of the flow area-three hips, two extensions, a bank hip, three pockets, a low flat wall and two on the long east wall of the park. The clock started when the skater cleared the first cone and ended when he cleared the last cone. You had to clear all twelve, one cone DQ. This allowed the competitors to choose their own line and use their creativity in finding the fastest line. Some skaters with balls could grind over two cones at once or clear three cones in one massive aerial assault. It was also a lot more fun to watch then twenty dudes all soing the same thing. Make sure to let me know if you try this format in your own skatepark. I'd love to hear how it works out. I chose this forum because you guys are supposed to be on top of this type of event.
