SW Montana near Bozeman: new roads
On 9/12/2004 montanajefe wrote in from United States  (168.103.nnn.nnn)

The double-edged sword of development. Can't do anything about it, so enjoy the ride!

Off of I 90 at Jackson Crreek Road interchange, about 8 miles east of Bozeman, just below the summit of Bozeman Pass. Head north off of I-90 on Jackson creek road, about 1/2 mile, roads are up-slope to the east. Completed September 10, 2004. Dreamy, mellow, long level runouts.

I just moved to Greeley, CO and got back into boarding and want to know if anyone knows some hot spots nearby. I know Boulder and from Denver-south there's a bunch, but how about northern CO? Everything seems to be pretty dense as far as traffic goes. Anyway, hit me up at bjcardenasjr@yahoo.com with any ideas. late. b

One More thing...

....apparently Skateboarding is BANNED in the city of London ( the Square mile ), but i think it tends to refer to shortboards, i've never been stopped on my Longboard or Slalomboard

Skatin in London
On 9/6/2004 Paul K wrote in from United Kingdom  (195.110.nnn.nnn)

bernd,

Londons Not to Bad, i would suggest Big Soft wheels though, as most of the surfaces are not brilliant, plus the Transitions from Kerb to Road and back tend not to be smooth, but with a 3-4cm step. However the biggest problem is People, most of the Tourist places ( Oxford St/ Regents St) are completely swamped so much so that its impossible to skate. Get off the beaten track and you should be OK

Greenwich Park is a reasonable place for Longboarding, Good hill if you like sliding,

Crystal Palace Park is not too bad either

Slalom sessions in Hyde Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays ( from about 5:30 , north side of the serpentine, not far from the Diana Memeorial skatepark...erm i mean fountain!!), usually spare boards for you to try out.

Can't comment on any of the other London Parks.

Paul K

Rt. 279,Hoosick Falls to Bennington
On 8/29/2004 Pre-School Rider wrote in from United States  (24.53.nnn.nnn)

The 'backside',towards Bennington is nearing completion now;All the signage is being put in,but the Bridges down on 'The Loop' in N. Bennington are still being worked on.I found a beautious way in,which won't hold for long. Go to the Hannaford, park at the south end of the lot.Hop over the railing/fence there, and you're on one of the closed On-Ramps at the bottom.the bridges aren't very kind to Standup D.H. boards, but the 4-5 miles of road uphill of them are very worth the hike.Best times to seek Zen are around 6:30 PM till dark. Some of the stretch is flatish, but the upper hill is some 700 ft UP from the shopping center, and the topmost section is a steady 4-5%,three lanes plus shoulders, and BUttterryy Ssmmoooth.I probably got 65mph out of the buttboard easily during the Fullmoon (hard to tell at night, but I covered 3+ miles in around 3 min.).The truck pulloff has to seen to be believed.I could easily fit Da Farm's previous race courses on it,all at once, and have room left over... There are those in 'the area' (New England,NYC) that I've told about this place, but too few have ventured up.Now my secret's out, just because it's too fine to let slip away unnoticed.Be careful, keep it cool up there, but hit this while you can! Expect it to be Public Roadway in less than a month.

that blows dude, i skate that hill all the time and have gotten pulled over by varoius different cops in the presidio. some don't care, some threaten tickets, some tell me to skate only on the sidewalk, some tell me to only skate in the street. that what really sucks about skating and the law, it really does'nt matter what the real laws, it comes down to the cop and what THEY think of somebody bombing a hill on a skate.

SF Presidio Loony Skater Hater Cop
On 8/27/2004 Ethan wrote in from United States  (192.12.nnn.nnn)

I got thrown out of the SF Presidio yesterday for skateboarding by this crazed Park Police cop.

I'm not even skating, just walking back up the hill (Park Ave) when she pulls up to me and ask me if I know skateboarding is illegal in the Presidio. I tell her I was under the impression that skating on the street was legal in San Francisco. She tells me its Federal land, and to "go back to the sf streets then". I say "OK". My car is 20 away, downhill.

I step on the board and footbrake my way 20 feet to my car. As soon as I step on the board she totally wigs out (I dont think she knew I was jsut going to my car to leave). She put her truck in reverse and blocks my car. I ask her to get out of the way so I can leave and she says no. She is physically blocking me from leaving with her truck and refusing to move. I have a small car (mini) and manage to manuever out anyway. She squeals the tires moving the truck to block my passage uphill. Wont let me go. I know if I cross the double yellow she will ticket me. At that point I lost my cool and called her told her to "get out of my way you nutcake". Then I flipped a u-turn and started leaving the Presidio the long way (the only way unblocked).

She follows me the whole way out the Park, tailgating me with about 3 feet between my car and her truck. I'm pissed off at this point cause I feel like I'm being harrassed by a crazy person with a gun,a uniform and a 1-ton truck, so I let her follow me out of the park in first gear going 3-5 mph. Which was probably stupid in retrospect.

Anyway, if you get stopped in the Presidio by a 30somthing latina Park Police woman with spiky hair - be warned that she is a joyless unbalanced person with a gun that hates skaters. Guess I'm gonna move my fun to Rivera in the Sunset for a while. Hopefully she doesn't work weekends :)

The Best Car-less Hill in VT.
On 8/15/2004 PSR wrote in from United States  (24.52.nnn.nnn)

I'm sad to say that Construction on the western section of the Rt-7 Loop around Bennington has picked up in pace.It looks like this Fall will be the Demise of my favorite Skatehill. This hill is 3-lanes wide,a constant 4% grade for over a mile, and features the best tar for speed/stick/smoothness I've seen on what is-to-be a public roadway. It's just off of N.Y. Rt.7,about two 10th's of a mile from the VT. border.Look for B.D. Hooligan's bar,go up Orebed Road. You'll see it.Keep it cool there,as we who skate it regularly want to keep it free of broken glass, trash, and other clutter.I've been quietly using this hill to play/train on for the last 3 years, but it's time to let the secret out.The local Farmers are a tad touchy about folk parking in their fields,so scout out the pulloffs, and hike in.Longboarders/Slalom Racers/Lugers in the New-England area owe it to themselves to make this a spot to visit Before It's Gone.
