street luge speed record

Rules

This record is for the highest speed reached on a downhill street luge.

The luge used in this record attempt should meet the following specifications:
It should not be powered in any way.
It should have no more than four wheels. These wheels should be connected to trucks that are steered in the standard manner (i.e. by leaning).
The tops of the wheels should not protrude above the height of the deck.
The luge should be no greater than 60 cm in width at any point (including the wheels).
All braking should be done by the rider’s feet making contact with the road surface. No other forms of braking are permitted.
Fairings should not extend over the rider to any extent (i.e. they may protrude outward in front and behind the rider, but may not protrude over the rider in any way).
The luge must be ridden in the prone position, that is, with the rider on his/her back, with their shoulders and feet against the deck of the luge.
Record attempts made on public roads will only be considered when that road has been properly and legally closed off to other traffic with the assistance of local law enforcement officials (or other appropriate authorities). Written confirmation of this fact must be supplied in the record claim.
Attempts on this record are made entirely at the rider’s own risk. However, it is strongly recommended that protective clothing and a helmet are worn.
Speed must be very accurately measured, by someone who is professionally qualified to do so. If hand-held radar is used, for instance, it shoud be operated by a police officer or similar who has been properly trained in its use. All equipment must be of a very high standard of accuracy, and documentation should be included detailing the specifications of the equipment used. A written statement, on letterhead paper, must be provided by the person measuring the speed, stating how they are qualified for the job, exactly how the speed was measured, and exactly what speed was reached. (Note that car speedometers, hand-held GPS units, cycling computers and similar are not eligible). If there is any doubt about the suitability of the equipment being used, it is the responsibility of the organisers to contact Guinness World Records prior to the record attempt. Please provide as much information about the equipment as possible.

I did have a question tho... I am planing on entering the Maryhill race. It will be my first competition and I was wondering what to expect. Does anyone have any tips?

Teutonia
On 7/20/2007 David Rogers wrote in from United States  (66.14.nnn.nnn)

The Teutonia race and the Guinness record runs are coming together. I think their website should have the sign-up page done soon. Get your tickets, passports and visas, October is coming fast.

I can help people with the Guinness sign up process if you have questions. Riders can contact me, Luis Lins or Andre Preto for questions about the Teutonia Contest and the Guinness runs. We all have been forwarded a presentation from the contest organizers that we can email to anyone who wants a copy. It is a Powerpoint presentation and is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Kludy has his ticket to Brazil and now he says that Biker is going! That would be really cool. I know this hill is fast enough to interest him. I hope we can get some more US boys to make it down...even if just to watch. 70+mph skateboard and 90+mph streetluge is going to be a good show.

Strike is going to make a run for the record! I'm interested to see just how fast some of these big boys can fly. Weight is going to be a key player when it's one man against the hill. I need to start eating!! I know there will be a few other Canadians trying to get down there...eh?

NEZ.. Guinness race?...you got a one track mind! I know a few guys who might race for a keg..might have to be Budweiser to interest them. Sorry I'm missing all the action up north. Sakmo is giving them a show in the old country!

MMMMMM..Guinness..I wonder if they sell Guinness down in Brazil...

On 6/28/2007 David Rogers wrote in from United States  (66.14.nnn.nnn)

I guess a month and a half is long enough to be away from this forum. I was in a secret contest with Chaput to see who could stay away the longest. I give in! I tell you, that CC is so competitive some times.

Thanks to a few of you for stopping in and adding something every now and then.

Summer is heating up and so is downhill skateboarding. Every week at GMR there is a new crew of riders. It's hard to believe that a few years back a few of us had that road all to ourselves.

It looks like Cliff Coleman and I will be heading to Sweden this summer compliments of a deal that Toby made for us to attend and teach clinics at the ULA massacre in Umea. We are really looking forward to helping out the growing longboard, downhill and sliding scene over there. Thanks Toby!!!

Ratship...Rogers Bros. team will have riders at ULA Massacre, Paskapoo, Top Challenge and the Teutonia race for sure. There are a few of the guys talking about Maryhill..John and I probably won't be there.

WindNinja..Glad you like the rack. Keep skating fast!

Kludy and Striker!!! I need to call both of you guys when I get the chance. Can't wait to buy you guys a beer in Brazil!! Teutonia is going to be one of a kind. The race is even catching the attention of some of the sleeping giants of days past. Golter, Mallard, Freeman, Dansie are all on my wish list of guys I'd like to see there. Anyone know if Manu is going to be there to check it out? What about Team Dregs?

Thanks for that Jamie! I think we have a winner with that one. Response has been really good on that deck.
