Solid-Surf.com "Rocks"
On 9/16/1999 FAS wrote in from (209.179.nnn.nnn)

What up people? Someone has finally done it right. Yea thats right SolidSurf.com. I live in LA and between LA & OC nobody has the selection and avaliability as SS. I ordered my goods (REAL WOOD with flames) and got it the next day without the hassle of the local shop DUDE telling me they're on back order or they only have the gay pride color scheme in right now, but check back in a week after all the Japaenese tourist clean out my shop.I've already recommended SoliSurf.com to all my skate buds and Oh yea what's with longskate.who? Lets say have you heard of deadline or keeping your word not to
mention Jason from some former scary movie COMING DOWN the MOUNTAIN. What's up with that? Show us who you really are mister Longskate scary mannnn.Watch out for that operation people, the page is slow and I dont want to watch a mini movie when I pull up the page.So SolidSurf.com got my business and thats all that matters.

Solid Surf

Many thanks to Glen at Solid Surf. I placed an order via the web site, sort of the fire and forget purchasing approach. However, there were some minor issues with the order, and a few quick e-mails back and forth with Glen ironed out all the bumps. I got some free advice, and the order arrived complete and on time. He even cut me some slack on the shipping and threw in some freebees. Overall, they provided very impressive customer service, and much more than I would have expected. I'll definitely shop there again, and I recommend it highly to anyone without access to a good local shop. Incidentally, it’s a well-designed site with good, quick loading graphics, ideal for anyone with a modem connection.

If you haven't already, check out Solid-surf.com. They have a great selection of all types of products under one (electronic) roof. They also seemed very helpful. I received a quick response to my request for the one thing they didn't have that I was looking for. For someone who doesn't live in an established longboarding area they should provide a great opportunity to get exactly what you want without having to pay three or four different shipping bills.

Purple skunk is probly the best shop in S.F. I was shopping for a board and saw some of the comments posted about this shop and decided to check it out. The owner is great guy and being able to demo just about any board makes deciding what to buy an easy choice. Check this place out you wont be disappointed

Purple Skunk has everything and they are really nice too if you go there. They've got about 40 boards you can try before you buy and they'll custom make anything and even do cool designs with the grip.

Blades NYC vs Purple Skunk
On 9/3/1999 jdawg wrote in from (209.122.nnn.nnn)

The Blades selection sucks compared with that at the Purple Skunk. Blades won't let you custom make boards either. But if you're stuck in NYC looking for boards, Blades is not bad. If you know what you want, order it from the Skunk because it kicks ass.

Cal Skate, Portland OR
On 8/25/1999 Jake wrote in from (205.188.nnn.nnn)

They carry like 5 kinds of longboards, all from shortboard companies, and S9. Randall RII's are part of the stock, but not much variety on the wheels. This shop has a huge old school section, but they really dont give a shit about longboards. Not to mention that the employees are KOOKS!
Is there a better shop in Portland?

Crescent Downworks, Spokane
On 8/18/1999 Laddie wrote in from (147.222.nnn.nnn)

I was this close to ordering a Tahoe 52", but I went down to the only shop in town that carries longboards, Crescent Downworks, and talked to Steve, the guy that runs the place. He's a shortboarder, and admitted he didn't know much about longboards, but he went way out of his way to help me out even though the shop was busy. He didn't cop an attitude or play the cool guy personna or anything. Anyway, the only thing he can get is Sector9, so I ordered the Supercruiser. It's supposed to be here Monday. Just wanted to give some props to Steve for taking some time to help me out. I definately would've ordered a different board if he wasn't so willing to go out of his way.

Westside Ride/Smoked Monkeys, Bend OR
On 8/17/1999 SlayerD wrote in from (206.163.nnn.nnn)

New place I've only been in a couple times. For a while, the other local shop, Smoked Monkeys, looked like they were going to shut down. Now Bend has a little bit of selection. Both places sell S9s (bit whoop), though Smoked Monkeys also has some other longboards (Scott Custom Boards og out of Hawaii, now out of Bend, OR). If anyone stops through central oregon, I'd recommend stopping into both places to say hi.

I just learned that Purple Skunk has always offered their products via mail order. And their site was just updated with even more long decks, trucks, and wheels. Truly the Bay Area's best longboarding shop.
