Judging from the bountiful supply of top notch reviews for Purple Skunk I suppose that my last post might have been a little redundant, alas I still recommend it.

John, trust me, all your longboard needs can be met at the Purple Skunk on Geary St. in SF. Demo boards galore, lots in stock, cool people behind the counter all in one convenient stop. I have spent quadruple digits of cash there since I discovered them last year. No one else around even comes close for a longboard junkies fix. Trust me!

Yeah i can make any deck you want out of anything you want. All i need is a drawing and i go from there. The boards page is still being designed. I am trying to incorporate a cad applet into the page along with the new run of decks that is now 3 weeks over due from my supplier. If you would like pictures please email me and i will be happy to send you some of my standard shapes. Lets hope next week everything is up and running. Thanks.

SF Bay Area Skate Shops

I'm going to be visiting the Bay Area next week. I would like to check out some well stocked longboard shops. I'd like to buy some new stuff. Since I live in Chicagoland, we have no shops that carry any significant variety of equipt. It would be a bonus if the shop had demos that allow you to try some setups on site before you buy. I will have a car so I can get to several locations in the greater SF area. I am also planning to be in Berkeley and going south to Palo Alto and Santa Cruz. Thanks for your help!

Since getting back into skateboarding I've done alot of shopping and asking questions online and within 6 months have probably spent around $600.00 on skateboarding equipment and I plan to spend more. I've had some nice experiences and have dealt with some super cool people. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't say, I've had any really bad experiences other than some stickers I got on ebay that took like 3 weeks to arrive. I have however dealt with alot of incompetence and just a plain lack of professionalism. Is this common in the Business world of Skateboarding? Not replying to legitimate questions about products? Throwing up half assed web sites that are barely functional? I bought a deck at one place and they didn't even have grip tape wide enough to apply to the deck. I called the number of another place and the guy answered his cell phone as he was driving down the road. All I can say to anyone new or experienced to online shopping, is, check it out, ask alot of questions and if they don't reply...don't buy. Also, make sure you check prices and shipping costs. The price differences on some items can span $20 or more. People on ebay are notorious for over charging on shipping. Anyone else have any experiences like this? Like I said, it isn't all bad. Just be careful.

Purple Skunk

It seems silly to post yet another glowing review of Purple Skunk in SF, but I guess I will. I went to them twice for several hours, trying out at least ten different decks, three types of trucks, and three sets of wheels. They were only too happy to switch all of the stuff around so I could try out virtually any combination of decks, trucks, and wheels. Throughout all of this they were extremely friendly and patient with all my questions (of which I had a lot) and never pressured me to buy a board. Lizzie and Eli were very helpful, filling me in about the basics of longboarding (since I'm new to it) and Eli even gave me a quick basic demonstration on how to slide (not that I am able to do it, but at least I have an idea of how it's done now).
Basically, if you want to have a huge selection of board, be able to try out new gear before buying, get awesome service, get advice/information, or just chat about skating in general - Purple Skunk is the place for you. In particular, I recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into skateboard/longboarding... but isn't sure about what to buy or get as they have no clue like me.
