That sucks about Tiki, I really liked that place, but
there is always RIC's aloha classics, he sells some stuff,
maybe he'll have more longboard stuff this summer. Why
did it close up?

Complete boards with Exkate Torsion trucks $95. Snowboards are really cheap too? They have wakeboards wetsuits, anything. Only open till Feb 28. call 586-1004

Tiki Surf Shop
On 2/22/1999 Mike Manzi wrote in from ()

RIP TIKI SURF SHOP
I propose a moment of silence for the apparently now-closed Tiki Surf Shop on Long Beach Island in New Jersey. For the skeptics out there, all I can say is you proboly had never been inside there or talked to Nick (aka TikiMan), who was a virtual encyclopedia of skate knowledge. This guy knew more about skating than most will forget. It was the only place I could buy a complete without having to tear it apart and rebuild it before being able to skate! For example: he stocked fully serviceable ABEC 5 bearings with rubber seals for $14.95 per set! I also picked up a complete for my 6 year old nephew for $60 which had a 36" 12 ply birch deck, red Tracker Trucks (6Tracks w/Lite Base), ABEC 3 bearings, and 65mm 78A Wheels, and full quality hardware! The tiny shop was literally packed with high quality skate gear, some old, some new, some very weird. I recently saw that the entire stock was auctioned off on e-bay for $9000, and I dare say some smart skater with deep pockets probably made off with a cache of exotic/collectable items. I will miss this oasis in the vast wasteland of jive wanna be "skate shops" which I have seen so many of. I hope one day the Tiki Man will return.

Ha!
I stand corrected. I do hope they get some stuff in. Ok, I do admit, I have bought stuff at GoSkate. I will be the first to share my shame, but what's a dude to do?

BODEGA? I would not be surprised, Did you see the "convient store" that used to be there? That place HAD to be one! I saw the same dusty cans on the shelves for years! But I hope you are not so desperate that you have to score there!
I am down for a skate, have not been anywhere cool in a while. Friggin rain sucks.
Later late.
eggman.
P.S. Sign up for the longboard lounge.

San Jose shop
On 2/17/1999 Steve wrote in from ()

Hey man, they haven't even opened yet. Wait, that didn't make sense. They haven't had their "Grand Opening" yet. They said something like they were ordering a bunch of stuff for longboards, like the various major longboard trucks (Randall, eXkates, and I'm going to bug him to get Seismics) (wait, Seismics are the ones with the springs, right?), and they haven't got a shipment of longboards yet. Did you see those weirdass teardrop shaped boards? They were like 80's boards in the sense that they had only one kicktail and were short, but they were funktified. As near as I can figure, they were rapper boards because they were all tagged up.
But I digress. The whole point of this posting is to say that the shop really isn't a skateshop, but a "skateshop." Yes, that's right, boys and girls, your friendly San Carlos street skateshop is really a bodega! I mean, how can that place NOT sell weed?
steve
PS: Where else are you going to shop? Go Skate?
PPS: You live in San Jose? We should ride sometime.

There's a really kick ass shop in downtown San Jose. It's in a house right across the street from Pizza A-Go-Go. Just go to San Carlos and look for it between third and fourth.
Steve
PS: I don't work there.

OZONE
On 2/11/1999 Hangus Hectopascal wrote in from ()

this is easily the most comprehensive, best stocked shop in tassie (probably Australia, if it had a mini or something)
Owned by Greg Stewart, skater for 25 years or something.

Excelent advice as well. well set out, vid's and all.
Also; Snow, Wake and Dirt boarding.

not cheap, but possibly because the shop is new, and maybe it ill come down, anyway, i'd rather buy from Greg, who supports the cause in tassie to the best of his abilities, and put's a shit load more in than he takes out.

Buy from here!!!!!

Stocks Van's!!!

oppisite the State library, City Center hobart.

Sorry it's not in NoCal, but I know there are some riders from Phoenix/Scottsdale that read this page. This place is great. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and they definately take care of you. All the folks are chill too, give 'em a try.

Rip City
On 11/29/1998 Glen wrote in from ()

Went to Rip City Skates in Santa Monica CA yesterday, they had a real nice selection of longboards at the store.
These guys have been selling boards since the Dogtown days, and have a bunch of old Z-Flex, Powell Peralta, Quicksilver, G&S boards tacked up to the ceiling and walls.
They have a web page but it doesn't have all the boards they have in stock, cool people with a lot of background, you may even run into Tony Alva in there...
