If you are planning on attending and HAVE NOT notified me with an e-mail, please do so now. If you are planning on staying at GBJ Central and you HAVE NOT notified me by e-mail, please do so today. The current, long-range weather forecast for The Gathering is partly cloudy, with temperatures in the low-to-middle 60s.

To the people attending The Gathering, I haven't read a description of what The Gathering will consist of exactly, so I'm wondering, Do you think that this event would be a good place for me to get some test rides on any cambered/"pumpable" boards?
To LongboardKook, Sure, even if they don't let me into The Gathering :), I can still meet you at the park for either session. Bring some sticky wheels if you plan to ride the pools because their concrete is very slippery. Heck, even the ramps are slippery. 78a PowerPaw Centered 65mm seem to work for me.

If anyone going the "Gathering" event is into longboard pool/park skateboarding, on that Saturday night, we should get a session going at the Potomac Mills Vans Skatepark just 30 minutes away. I say we ride the 7pm-9pm and/or 9pm-11pm session(s).

Brian,
The SJC dump road rides sometimes turn out like that... sometimes only a few guys, but other times, the place is packed with all the longboards and styles you could ever want to see in one place.
The vibe is very cool and peaceful and it can be a great place to give new equipment a try.
Try to make some of those gatherings (you'll want to attend more than once!) HR

Just curious if there is "one" event that tends to draw longboarders of every make and fasion. I would probably make the voyage if I had the chance to meet and skate with longboarders from all over and different styles.

Had my picture not shown up as one of the non-skater enforcers, I would have kept my mouth shut. However, since I have now been web-attacked I can not keep my peace.
The camerman representing himself as a team member of the TVS guys was an embarasment, in my opinion, to the TVS group. All of the riders that I have met from TVS have been great... a class act. The cameraman and his crew were not...
If I were to make a recommendation to TVS, I would suggest having that page removed from the site and distancing yourself from someone who will only damage your reputation.
While free speech is enjoyed on the internet... this sort of activity should not be encouraged... or tolerated.
Now I know that Gary H doesn't read message post by personal choice. But I would hope that one or more of his team members who does, would convey to him my dis-pleasure with this situation.
And for the record... The only reason the cameraman was surrounded by anyone was because of the abusive way he was speaking to our host, Michelle W... HR

TVS news has some twisted propaganda:
www.streetboards.com/sb/news.html
What they are calling a "leisurely test run" was two riders (not in the race) weaving back in forth down the course. Like clueless idiots oblivious to the fact that a race was in progress, they carved in front of a gravity bike coming down at speed, and should have gotten hammered hard (Hanebrink was pissed). I think the intruding riders realized they fucked up and disappeared quickly. The TVS racers had nothing to do with it. But the cameraman just saw it as an opportunity to cause further sensation and get more on video. The story on the news page could not be more distorted.
It's a shame.

IF THE RACE ENDED BEFORE THE FINAL , I MAY HAVE GOTTEN 3RD, NOT SURE BUT THE STAND-UP DID GET A REAL FINAL AND IF I CAN STAY ON MY BOARD , WHO KNOWS MAYBE A TOP THREE FINISH ! REED HIT A PATCH AND ASPHAT WHENT EVERY WHERE , A BIG PEACE HIT ME IN THE UPPER LEG , AS WELL AS DAVE ROGERS HIT THE SAME PATCH AND AS SOON AS HE DID I PASSED HIM WITH PEACES OF ROAD FLYING EVERY WHERE. THAT PATCH DID HELP ME AND IF YOU HIT IT ALL YOU COULD DO WAS TO HOLD ON AND HOPE YOU DID NOT FALL.STAND -UP RACING WAS CLEAN AND ALL RIDERS WHENT FOR IT ! SEE YOU GUYS NEXT YEAR. THANKS FOR THE GREAT RACING

First off congrats to Chris for his victory, you deserved it!
It was great to hang out with all the downhill family and to add a few to it (Hugh & Roger). I really wished i could have raced but i look foward to the next one. I've spent the whole day recovering after a hard weekend of partying and cant wait til Utah, hopefully my shoulder will have healed.
It was great to go out to O-side with Brad, Michael, and Cliff and watch Brad learn to slide! Then take him to Barret and watch him ride the hill for the first time and think its boring! i tell you sliding is key! it makes hills that seem unrideable a thrill ride!

Actually Roger, I don't know the results of positions 5 through 8 and didn't try to order them in the post below. I just wanted to list all the racers. Reed beat be me in the DC Downhill and so I too know firsthand how fast he is. He's got a great start too. If there were an award for the "Most Improved" rider, it would have to be you. No more casual carving for Roger J. I made the mistake of standing up and looking back for you and the next thing I know, your past me! Good one.
If you can find out how fifth through eighth finished, let me know. The guys at Streetluge.com want to know.

Correction, Reed Lowry had no problem keeping well in front of me throughout the whole course. The honor of last place goes to me. The format gave me a small chance of actually advancing to the semi-finals if anyone made any big mistakes. It started with two heats of five riders with the top four of each heat advancing to the semi-finals of four each, and a final four. At least that is what all the riders thought (turns out the second heat was the finals) and it did not seem right that Gary placed something like 6th (he was holding back on the first run saving legs). After unanimous agreement, a final heat took place.
The one bummer was that there were no time qualifying runs for stand-up (lugers got two each), I think something like straws where used to determine the first heats. I personally would have loved to know what my time down the hill is.
You do not have to ride at a professional level to have fun here. I encourage all other speedboarders starting out to get to these races and get your smiles - and give me some competition for last place ;) Carvers too, this hill is not bad at all with soft wheels and lots of carving back and forth. Even if not riding, there it is a lot of fun watching some of the best talent negotiate this course.

Rick raced his heart out and ripped it up. Love the new graphics on his helmet too! Rick raced into the finals where he found me and a couple of fire breathing dragons named Gary Hardwick and John Rogers descending upon him as he lead us all into the first gnarly hairpin. Other rippers included Eli Smouse, Danny Connor, Jimmy Flindt, Dave Rogers, Roger Jennings and Reed Lowry.
Results: 1. Chris Chaput (Roughcuts, Abec 11, Randal) 2. Gary Hardwick (TVS, eXkate, Randal) 3. John Rogers (Rogers Bros, Kryptonics, Randal) 4. Rick Kludy (TVS, eXkate, Randal)

The Barret race not only happened {NO ONE GOT HURT ), MOST EVERYONE had a great time and the race was done before dark . I say more times than not barret is a great hill to hold races and we showed over the weekend that it is a great spot to hold races. The Mex. line is close , we are in the middle of nowhere and you can really relax. No one is uptight about winning the race , just making it down the hill. This hill should have three races a year on it and the stand -up guys should be treated like all the other disciples, not just the side show anymore ! We have proved ourselfs over and over .I did not win but I did win , I made it down the hill every time, and I raced my heart out !
