Hey everybody, Wow!!!!! What a fun race! Had a blast. I actually made it through 2 heats! It was way too much fun just getting out there and riding. All the practice runs with me, Reed and Kludy really took a toll on my legs (holding the tuck) but it was all worth it. I didn'teven crash the ENTIRE weekend. I improved so much over this weekend that I think suprised more than a few people including myself. I look at this hill in a totally different way now. I got to meet a few people including a new friend, Eli Smouse. Once again I was the youngest stand-up rider out there, allthough I just turned 18 on saturday. Wanna say "what up" to all the stand up guys Kludy-you the man, Gary-why are you so fast?, Jimmy-all you need is sleeves! Reed-What happened? Chris-I beat you in a practice run, therefore I can actualy say that I am better that 1s place because I beat you and all...just kdding, Mark-Hope the hip heals soon, DT-It's on bro, Cliff-I am honored, Eli-yeah,um, I'm gonna need you to go ahead and come in on saturday. thanks a bunch!, Roger-What a suprise! Dave and John-Why are you so fast? He He Sorry if I left anyone out. Ihope to see everyone real soon. Too much fun! Later.

I saw a post on Streetluge.com that the permit was denied due to lack of insurance. Darren Lott and I are still going. Who knows what will happen.

Heading east from San Diego on 94, look for "Barrett School Road" on the left just after a bridge, after Barrett Cafe. Good idea to first stop off at the Cafe and see if Frank is there (riders meeting there 7:30-9:30am? on saturday)

It looks like Cliff Coleman, Darren Lott and I will be camping out in the magic bus on Saturday night in Barrett. Collectively, the three of us have lived for over 131 years and have been skating for about 100 of them. Can you say "SkateGeezer"?

Blue Smoke Racing will have a booth at the "Action 2 Extreme " Expo this weekend in Chantily, Virginia near Washington DC. We will have our equipment, videos, photos and lots of information on display for the general public to gain a little more exposure for the sports of streetluge, speedboarding and buttboard (wished I had a gravity bike). Come out and meet some gravity sport athletes and roll through the expo on a luge. Info on team and event sponsorships will be available.
The Action 2 Extreme people were kind enough to donate us valuable booth space since we have nothing to sell except the excitment of the sport. Come check it out. Anyone wanting to share space at future show may contact me later.
Anyone want to help out at the booth is very welcome. I will probably need a break.
See the link to the Expo at:

I too have some extra leathers for someone about 5'8", 160lbs or less, and some for someone 6' or less. Maybe an extra wedge helmet. This hill can kick your ass. Wear protective gear.

Hey Fellas, I will also be coming to Barrett with an extra set of leathers. Well, I guess I should actually call them "duct tapes" because they're more grey in color due to my "McGiver" method of fixing things with pound of duct tape! But they aren't as bad as DT's! I know that they don't sound very promisisng, but I will gladly loan them out as long as someone would be able to race! I'll bring a few extra full-faces too. E-mail me if you're interested. Later.

what ever happen to the good ol days . i'm pretty new at competeing (last2 barretts) . no affense to igsa but i liked the first one way better . it was fun, layed back w/ no time constaints. were as the last one was just lame . i mean it takes alot to run an event im not saying i could do better ,cause i couldnt, but at the last barrett i watched marcus turn into the man every one loves to hate at comps (biker) . and it was just hurried. in no way was it just another day on the hill , and that is what it should be even the comps . dont think ill be able to race this one 65 was not bugeted for me so ill show up sunday to hang and hope to maybe carve ine or to runs down. Count me in as a flag and radio guy though . see you all there . ride safe! late b-rad

Posted by Marcus Rietema on Monday, 19 March 2001, at 8:57 p.m. on the Streetluge.com BBS:
Hello to everyone out there in cyberland.
It seems there has been a lot of confusion regarding the race scheduled for Barrett Junction March 24-25. I made an posting a few weeks ago stating that until the announcement of an Official 2001 IGSA schedule, we would not be holding the races announced on the tenative schedule released earlier. Many persons were confused by this. I thought this statement was clear and I apoligize to those who were confused and to those who did not read it.
Due to the chaos caused by Frank Waterhouse moving and a delay in getting the funding to properly stage the Barrett Junction event I felt it would be best to cancel the event. Unfortunately, Frank and I had a miscommunication and he thought the event was still going on as originally scheduled.
He phoned me this evening and told me that an event would still be going on this weekend and asked me for my help. I felt bad about the mixup and agreed to help him to stage the event this weekend.
Here are the details:
IGSA Barrett Junction Spring Race March 24-25 IGSA Regional Points event THIS RACE IS NOT A QUALIFYING EVENT FOR THE 2001 X GAMES Entry Fee: $65.00 1st class, $35.00 each additional class
Schedule: Saturday- AM Practice, PM Qualifying Sunday- AM Practice, PM Races
Classes: Street Luge (mass) Gravity Bike (mass) Downhill Skateboard (mass) Buttboard (mass)
This event is being organized at the last minute as more of a fun type event. Please take this into consideration if you plan to attend. We are in desperate need of volunteers to help with the running of the event. If you are interested in helping out please call Frank Waterhouse at 619 749-5537 after 7:00pm.

Hey Guys, Frank and Kludy....can't thank you enough. My Dad voulenteered to be a flag man in one of the corners again. He says it's fun, I'll just do the racing. We have 3 radios with fresh batteries and we will bring them. It's also my 18th birthday on Saturday. Anyone down for cake during lunch break or something? (did I need to ask?) Anyhow, I am very excited that this could all be put together! Points or not, I want to have fun. I just hope I can make it through more than one heat! See ya there!

Rick and Frank, I won't be able to get down there until Saturday morning but I want to thank you guys in advance for making this happen and for all the hard work that you guys are putting into this. I remember last race Frank and others were working well into the wee hours of the morning to get the race ready. Anyone else who can lend these guys a hand would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Again. Last time I was down there we had to stop early because we were running out of leather but down at the DHX I was batting 1.000 on my right hand turns. Look out Rick. A "new and improved" old man is comin' to gitcha.

Marc, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we were there, on the road that is up behind the top of the GS and Buttboard course. You have to go straight instead of turning right into the area where the last slalom race was. You continue on until you have to turn right, then proceed with caution up the hill past the sign that says: "Do Not Enter". Cliff Coleman, Randal (Fuller), Scott Peer, Roger Jennings, Darren Lott, Michael Gorman and I were having some fun sliding, carving and buttboarding. Be sure and try both locations next time. I'm sorry we missed you.
