hc, the slider gloves are in the making. As I mentioned earlier this was the first ever longboarding competition in Finland (and it also was a charity event for the local skatepark, very laid back atmosphere). All the finalists were first year longboarders. But from what I heard from other competitors in the party next year will definitely be completely different ;-). And if you're coming to Finland I must warn you that Helsinki is not what I would call a longboarder heaven. Drop me an e-mail (asb(at)iki.fi) if you want more info about the spots here.

awesome weekend, maclaren and ggp was fun, even skated the north beach area of the SF bike race.
btw, all you SF guys, check out presideo's park blvd (we done only the bottom half), if we start at the top, we can get plenty of speed, and practice sliding through the corners.)

Those of you who like to read finnish press releases and look at fuzzy longboarding photos will definitely enjoy http://skate-board.org/helsinki/ss2001/. The site contains a press release and photos from the first finnish longboarding competition held last saturday.

This Saturday (or Sunday?) I will be setting up a GS course on the steep/closed road near the Starlight Bowl in Burbank/Glendale. Big offsets with lots of sliding. Anyone interested email or call me at 818-807-5232
Hugh, the SJC dump is open on saturdays and full of garbage truck drivers in a hurry to run you over. Sunday?

Just got a idea. I am going to watch the SF Grand Prix cycling race this Sunday at 9am. Tour winner Lance Armstrong is gonna ride. I am planning on being there with my longboard and slider glove and bomb some SF hills on the closed course. (illegaly, of course.) Anyone wants to join me?
From www.SFgrandprix.com.... The 125-mile race begins and ends on the Embarcadero, near the city’s famous Ferry Building, winds through North Beach and along Fisherman’s Wharf and the Marina. Halfway through the 10-mile circuit, the flatlands give way to the steep climb up Fillmore Street. Once the riders reach the top of the steep 3-block climb they will race through Russian Hill, back through North Beach and to the Embarcadero.
(maybe I should wear my cycling tights and shave my legs for this occassion. ;-)

grinch, the road is quite fun to carve, even though it does'nt seem that steep, you have to carve hard to keep the speed in check. bring the carveboard, the hill we are bombing would be a nice mellow hill for the carveboard, but this other hill there is steepers and better for that thing. hc, are you bringing your buttboard?
andrew and everyone else, once you go up the steep and short hill to get into the park(the hill with "john mclaren park" sign", go right, drive up this hill and you will see us. there is a little flat section that we usually start on.

hey david, seeing as i'm much more of a soul carver, i'll most likely not be straight up bombing. so the width of the road is enough to carve for speed control? i'll most likely want to carve or do alternating mild bomb, slide, bomb, etc. also, think it's worth ripping up on a carveboard? hc, if you didn't get enough time on that other guys board in GGP, you really need to get into how deep you can crank this thing. it's so much fun. a good work out as well, i've had jelly legs a few times after a few runs on some complex hills.

glad to see that more than the usual amount of people are coming. hc, the hill we mainly bomb is quite a fun one with no intercetions. the pavment is not great but its not shitty, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best, i would say 7. the road is quite wide. the only problem is this big spot in the middle thats a gaint pothole, dont hit that. their is a little hill going up at the end of the hill and if you are bombing it you can easly go over it and still come out with some speed. there is the only 3 way intercetion with stop signs, its the only "iffy" part of the corse. i'll bring my new bulldog deck(if it comes by sat) peace david

damn, i was thinking about hitting that just to make use of the weekend, but i thought it would be strictly competitive, something i'm not likely to be into half as much as freestyle/soul. anyway, live and learn, try anything once, hindsight is 20/20, (your favorite cliche here).
mclaren, 1pm is cool, but i'll probably try to get down there sooner. don't know why, i just don't like getting lost and all that. clayton, i might be able to give you a ride, i'll keep you up on that as sat. approaches. you live near the skunk, somewhat, right?
