Hello all! The Cascade Slalom Association’s regular Sunday slalom session is on again this weekend! The sun is suppose to shine bright all weekend!
Place: North Seattle Community College (SE parking lot) Time: 2:00pm
Please keep in mind that we may not have "official" permission to use this spot - so be a gracious guest! Wear your helmet, skate only in the parking lot and not the surrounding roads, and carry out all of your trash or use the garbage cans at the middle driveway entrance.
Michael spent a good chunk of last weekend recording times - Thank you very much! Please help him out this weekend by rotating the recording responsibilities. He needs all the practice he can get because he is going to get beat in Breckenridge! I've been holding back on him all year and I am finally going to pull out all the stops and take him down! (Ya - right!)
How about implementing a system where right after you take a run, you are responsible for recording the next persons times - that person then takes your place and you get to go back to the top of the hill. This way everyone's times are recorded and everyone gets to practice.
Last weekend we set-up at NSCC and ran for a couple of hours. Got a good workout in before the rains started. I thought everyone was ready to call it quits when a suggestion was made to head to the alternative covered location in Bothell. Everyone jumped all over it and we ended up running cones until almost 7:30! We finally had to call it quits - much to the displeasure of some (Ian) who had to be escorted home kicking and screaming saying that he wanted to keep skating and didn't get enough runs in!
Take Care and skate safe! Gareth Cascade Slalom Association

I heard some talk of a race called the broadway bomb in September. It's supposed to be a race down Broadway (through Traffic!) and ends at the battery. Sounds kinda sketchy since I'm from Long Island and have little experience riding in traffic. I'm thinking about giving it a shot though. I'm sure someone will post about it when it happens. Later Skater.

Just to give everyone another "head up" about our Summer schedule. Email if you have any questions.
All East Coast Slalom racers take a look at the proposed schedule for the DC Outlaw Summer Series. Due to the success of our Winter Slalom racers and to keep the momentum going from the fun all of us had at the 2nd Gathering, I thought we should try this again.
Same format as we used this Winter. No permission or permits, skate at your own risk.
DC OUTLAW SUMMER SERIES
4 -5 race season starting in June ending in September.
Tentative dates (weather permitting) June 1st – Gaithersburg Park and Race June 29th – Gaithersburg Park and Race July 27th – Gaithersburg Park and Race August 17th – Gaithersburg Park and Race September 7th – “FINALS” Gaithersburg Park and Race
To avoid the hot temperatures during the middle of the day, racing will begin at 5pm. Longboard Slalom - Practice 4-4:45pm Longboard Slalom - Racing 5-6pm Traditional Slalom - Practice 6-6-45pm Traditional Slalom - Racing 7-9pm
Longboard Slalom events will be single lane format. Traditional Slalom will be dual format.
Permission and Permits? We don’t need no stinking permission or permits!!!
Skate at your own risk!!!! Pads are optional.
No entry fee. All you need to do is bring a friend.
If it rains, keep an eye on the NCDSA.com events forum. I will post all schedule changes and updates a few days prior to each event.
Directions from DC to the Gaithersberg Park and Race: Take 1270 North to exit 10 (Clopper Rd), go to second traffic light and turn right onto Quince Orchard Rd go to second traffic light and turn right into the "Park and Ride" lot. We will be in the upper left corner of the lot.

KMG, There will be two classifications: 36 inches-42 inches (hybrid)and over 42 inches (longboards). Currently wheelbase is not going to be limited. However I do realize that eventually a wheelbase restriction should be developed. This will be our first attempt at organizing a longboard slalom race so I am certian that we will refine our classes after a few races.
Longboard practice will start at 4pm this Saturday.

Longboard Slalom Racing as part of the WASHINGTON DC OUTLAW SUMMER SERIES, 2002
* Longboard Slaloming is easier to do compared to traditional slalom (short boards) but the real fun of longboard slaloming comes from trying to beat the clock or your buddy's time. Brian P. of eastcoastslalom.com has now included longboard slalom races with his traditional slalom races. It is free to enter, informal and full of friendly competition.
The First Race is this Saturday June 1 at the Gaithersburg Park & Ride off I-270 (longboard slalom practice starts at 4pm with the longboard race at 5pm).
The 2002 DC Outlaw Summer Series is a 4 -5 race season starting in June ending in September and includes Longboard Slalom and Traditional Slalom racing.
Directions from DC to the Gaithersberg Park and Race: ->DC Beltway I-495 ->Take I-270 North to exit 10 (Clopper Rd), go to second traffic light and turn right onto Quince Orchard Rd go to second traffic light and turn right into the "Park and Ride" lot.
The course will be in the upper left corner of the lot.
I hope to be there sleep or no sleep.

Talimena Drive Xtreme Downhill - June 15 -16

There are only three weeks until the first annual Talimena Drive Xtreme Downhill. The details are in their final stage. The United States Forestry Dept is making sure we have all of our ducks in a row. Oklahoma is excited about having racers from all over the world to compete on June 15th and 16th.
The Talimena Drive Xtreme Downhill was originally scheduled as the US National Championship but has been upgraded to World Cup status by the IGSA. The event is also a World Cup for the IIDA and the GBA. We have been told to expect all of the top ranked racers in the world. The event will be filmed and produced by Drop In TV. This is the same production company that films Hot Heels. We are very excited about having this first year event documented for us all to remember. The press will be on site and we will need volunteers to provide interviews, if you are interested please let me know.
As scheduled, registration and tech inspection will begin on Friday the 14th. Due to the high number of entries expected we will have to open registration and tech around 2pm. Please come early to beat the rush and have all of your race and safety gear ready. Registration and tech will be available on Saturday morning as well and then practice will begin. Practice will run as quickly as possible to allow a maximum number of runs for everyone. Qualifying will be that afternoon with racing on Sunday. We are expecting a very large spectator turnout and now with Drop In TV filming us, it will prove to be an incredible time on the hill.
We are working on a couple of surprises along the way, like the racers party on Saturday night! This party is open to all that want to attend. You can purchase meal tickets at the registration tent. Food is so far from the racecourse so we are working on having lunches catered for the racers on Saturday and Sunday for a small fee. Lunch tickets will also be available at the registration tent.
Its time to mail in your entry! You can avoid a late fee by having your entry form postmarked by June 3rd, and remember that $25 of each entry fee goes towards a prize purse for that discipline. Print out the attached entry form and get ready to race on what will become one of the best downhill courses in the world!
SEE YOU ON THE TALIMENA DRIVE!!!
