Whats up with this "only one push after a fall" nonesense. I've seen that course and there are sections that are really flat and even one part that is up hill. Are we supposed to wait for the wind to push us? Is this a skateboard race or a cub scout car rally?
Make it fastest man down I say.

Sharon, Pierre, and Michael have all been accounted for at the airport. Thank you all for stepping up to help out. I'm going to sleep now and will be in surgery until 2pm tomorrow. I have two huge gashes out of my eyelids, but thank God I can see. I'm looking forward to meeting you all and making a little sk8 history at the same time. God Bless!

More relays from Tasos. As y'all might expect, he is unable to get online and TYPE. Seems it's a little difficult with just one eye.
Arrangements are made for retrieving Sharon from the airport. Sharon, call either me (843-875-9005) or Tasos (843-762-7577) for the details.
Michael, if you read this, please call Tasos. He has also made arrangements to get you at the airport.

I just got back from the ER and am going into surgery tomorrow morning at dawn. If anyone can pick up Sharon Sidlo at 4:30 or Michael Brooke at 11:30 please let me know. There are directions to my house and the site on our site. My cell is 843-442-9584. If no-one can, then I'll continue to try and get someone out there for you both. I'll tell the story later what happended today-right now I have to fill my prescription. The races are on-not to worry! Let's thank God for our health and lives.

Slappy,
Ask Brian. We're using his. (Or so I've been told.) I'm assured it will handle dual-lane racing.

Two things: first, the weather. The latest update has a 30% chance of afternoon showers through the weekend. Don't anyone panic. The most rain we've seen here in four months is one inch this past Monday. I'm not betting the farm on a downpour. (The chance of rain has been downgraded through the week from a high of 60% to the current 30%. Stay tuned.)
Thursday night at the Bus Terminal: I'll arrive around 8:30 with 60 cones. Anyone else is free to bring whatever and stay as long as you please. We can skate all night under bright lights on a city-block long stretch of silver concrete with no traffic. I usually take ice water and a towel (the humidity can be fun!).
Oh, if it's hip Thursday night, we'll do it again Friday...and Saturday...and... One last thing: don't go to the Terminal TOO EARLY. It really is an active Bus Terminal attached to the Charleston Visitors Center. Tourist busses and trolleys use the terminal all during the day up until around 6:30 or 7:00. After that, it's wide open. It's also under cover and fully lit with halogen overheads. All-weather racing downtown style!
Be there or be elsewhere!

Just checked the weather.com and it looks like a weekend of rain....stoked, just my luck....I say forget all rules, run this thing in the rain, hit more then 4 cones or fall your out. Rules are neat but I personaly don't need 'em, just tell me if I advance or not....there is always the great PBR challenge...........2 days to go..........

Questions about the 2002 World Longboard Slalom Championship RULES

I’m really looking forward to the 2002 World Longboard Slalom Championships but I hope we can do somewhat of an online riders meeting to discuss and clarify some of the Race Rules. Here are some questions I have as a racer.
->Rule #2 “ONE ROUND of qualifying races…”
Does that mean all you get is one run down the hill to get a qualification score? Does this mean no second run? What happens if you DQ on your only run? Do you still get seeded into the bracket or is it off to the beach blanket.
->Rule #4 “A Single elimination event.”
I assume that means single elimination brackets (like what FCR does and DC Outlaw does) and not double elimination brackets (we had fun doing that but it takes a long time to run a looser bracket). In the typical single eliminations bracket the two racers run each other twice for the lowest combined time of two runs? Or, does rule #4 mean you race a guy once down the hill once and if you beat him, then you move to the next racer (no second run)? Does this mean the actual head to head is not a timed event?
->Rule #6 “Three-foot wide start box with no backstop. Skateboard and the racer's feet MUST remain within the width of the box.”
My 42” board will be obviously out of the box. Does this rule mean the skater is in the box and so must at least a portion of the board also be in the box? In other words, this prevents a skater from pushing his board out in front of him and getting a running jump-start like what Will Kimbel does? I hope running starts are not allowed at all.
-> Rule #10 “4-cone maximum, 5th cone displacement results in automatic Disqualification. (Four cones on a 40-cone track equal 10% of total markers).”
There is no time penalty set for each cone. I guess this means a flat out race to the bottom with who gets to the finish first wins as long as he hits less than 5 cones.
Also, if the head to head racing is not timed, I hope there will be video camera at the end to help the finish line judge. Cycle racing use a camera to help determine those finish line close calls.
-> Rule #11 “Race will begin with the following cadence: "Racers on your mark, get set, GO!"
Will the cadence be uniform or varied to keep the racers honest on jumping the gun? In my opinion, if the cadence is varied, then it will be easier for the start judge to call any racer jumping the count.
-> Other Questions and Comments
I hope that other races will ask for some sort of clarification on the rules now so things can get figured out before race day. Nothing sucks like a confused and unhappy contestant on race day.
By the way, there is nothing wrong with unique rules but most of us slalomers have become accustom to a certain set of rules.
