DC Outlaw #5
On 9/4/2002 Brian P wrote in from (208.249.nnn.nnn)

Sorry guys for all of the mix-up. The hill in Adams Morgan that we were going to use is no longer available. I am going to go and check out another spot tonight.

I will leave it up to you guys on where and when you would like to race.

We can race at the Woodbridge Park and Ride on Saturday as the final to our series. This location has a fair surface and does not allow for duels. However the pitch is good and we have never been hassled there.

The DC locals can still race in Adams Morgan on Sunday just as an exhibition race.

Or if you guys want to postpone the series final to September 28th, that is another option.

This Sunday is the third WLAC slalom day of the season. Oust Bearings joins Turner Downhill in the sponsor pool, and we'll be spreading the goodies down the results sheet, you don't have to win the race to go home with some goodies. See you there for some tight slalom and fast slalom racing fun! (And I do mean fast!)

Does anybody have an idea as to the final location and day of the DC Summer Outlaw #5? My boss is gonna be pretty PO'd if I don't tell him soon when I'll be skatin' instead of workin'. If I can't find out soon, I might have to skip it.

Brian? Curt? Ohm?

How about an old-school style pool contest.

A 30 minute open session contest in the pool (everyone skates as hard as they can for 30 minutes, judges pick winners). Seperate the competitors by age group.

VINTAGE & LONGBOARD SKATEBOARD DAY
On 9/2/2002 Surfrider Foundation-Washington DC Capitol Chapter wrote in from (165.247.nnn.nnn)

VINTAGE & LONGBOARD SKATEBOARD DAY

This Nov. will be the 3rd Vintage & Longboard Skateboard Day at the Potomac Mills Vans skate park. We are looking for ideas for this year’s event. Collectors of vintage equipment will again get to display their collection at the park but we need to figure out what other activities should go along with the displays. The idea is geared to promote longboard and old school skateboarding.

Here are some suggestions and I’m not sure if we can do more than just one. We are open for discussion and input. Ultimately this is a Surfrider Foundation fund raising event and we would need volunteers to help do any one of the below listed items.

SOME SUGGESTIONS:

Invite Guest Speaker on Historical Skateboard Moments- Creative Urethane Company (Son of the urethane wheel inventor)

Invite Guest Speaker on Municipal Park Building (Holliday, Team Pain, etc.)

Invite Guest Speaker(s)- Skate Legends (like Chaput, Hackett, Olson, Economy, Coleman, etc.)

Banked Slalom

Cross-country Slalom (similar to banked slalom but includes vert kickturns)

Mini-Cyber Slalom (not sure how many cones)

Pool Contest

Small Bowl Contest

Expression Session

Min-half pipe Contest

Micro-half pipe Contest

Indo-Board Contest (balance board)

What else?

Sponsors are also welcomed.

Can't slalom the Balston Parking Garage but it is worth cruising it on a longboard outlaw style. How bout it "Posse"? No cones, no timers, first one down to the bottom level is the winner.

DC Oulaw Race on Sept 7th
On 8/30/2002 Brian P wrote in from (208.249.nnn.nnn)

Ok, hears the deal on the DC Outlaw race next weekend.

Right now we are shooting for a Sunday race on September 8th in Adams Morgan downtown. We are teaming up with the DC Downhill guys and using their permissions and permits. I will have a definite on this by Monday the 2nd. This is out #1 spot.

The Leesburg Parks and Rec is still reviewing my application for a permit to use a city street. I should also know more next week on this location so this will be our #2 spot if for some reason the Adams Morgan spot falls through. This will be a Saturday race.

If our #1 and #2 spots fall through then we will race at the Woodbridge Park and Ride in Occoquan VA. This spot is a true outlaw spot so there are some other backup location that are nearby if we get shut down, Walker Rd and Rolling Rd.

I just want to keep you guys updated. Since we got shut down by THE MAN in Gaithersburg finding legit race sites is becoming more difficult. Hopefully all of my applications for permits submitted for our winter dates will be approved very soon. We will have guaranteed hills for everything going forward.
