hey bradyscabs and Chuck, do you guys have an alternate indoor venue? I know sometimes in mid-January it can get a little stormy... this should be a big event, with everyone coming down from the north for some Florida winter sunshine. p

Made it as far as NC w/ the family but back tracked after TS Hanna didn't make a direction change I was looking for. So I have headed toward the in-laws instead of the race venue. This will likely guarantee that it will be dry enough to race Saturday. Hope the rain holds for the GA Crew to have a fun race.

Vlad is thinking about going to Georgia. Although it looks like rain on Saturday, Sunday might be nice. And I ‘m sure our Georgian friends will take all necessary measures to make their guests happy. Maybe race at a bus terminal, or a Sunday race? I don’t know. Vlad said he’d make a decision in 3 hours. Messenger for Vlad.

Sudden new developments mean good news to Georgia Racers!
Hurricane Vlad is moving in from the north and expected to push Tropical depression Donna further south and away from the area. This is good news to racers because Hurricane Vlad, while intense, carries little or no precipitation, only some mild to severe persperation which should'nt be a problem to most. More updates as they become available.

A'ight, been looking at weather.com and it doesn't look good for Saturday as far as rain, but Sunday looks OK. We should be able to get both races in on Sunday if need be, eh? My flight is at 10MDT this AM and I'll be on it. See y'all at LowJ's this evening.

i've seen the forecasters wrong enough times not to worry, BUT if i were driving more than a couple of hours i'd be very concerned
that said, the race will go off at 9am saturday morning, intermittant showers will not be a problem,
hasn't rained here in a month (shades of folly beach) and we're in the middle of a pretty severe drought so i have to put aside my selfish desire to see the race go off as scheduled and join the chorus praying for rain (odd position to be in as the promoter)

Hmmm, with the storm stalled the predictions for when it hits GA keep slipping back. This morning it was 7AM Saturday. This afternoon it was 1 PM. Latest advisory has it hitting GA at 7 PM Saturday. Rains are well to the east of center. Athens forecast had chance of rain for Saturday at 10% all week, then yesterday it climbed to 20%, this morning 40%, this afternoon 50%.
I keep thinking, "I don't wanna drive 600 miles to see a rain storm, but I don't wanna miss the race if it happens." I'll know which way it's gonna go when I wake up in the morning. If I weren't driving so far there'd be no question, but...
I'm with you, Wesley, I ain't racing on "almost dry enough" streets. D@mn, I really want to go!

Yeah, Chuck: if it's raining at Noon, my contingency is to hit the road and make it to Columbia in time for the 3:30 kick off.
P.S. I WILL NOT RACE ON DAMP ASPHALT. I don't care how many assurances are made that "it's almost dry enough." Between my slam in Washington and ur13's at 'da Farm, I've learned my lesson enough for one year!

Athens Race

Okay, this is serious...are there any contingency plans for the Athens race if it rains Saturday? If it rains Saturday and Sunday? I really don't feel like driving 600 miles to watch it rain in Athens, and am seriously considering not going. And, it's not like I have a lot of time to make up my mind...I'm leaving in 12 hours. So, what're the backup plans? Or are you just gonna hope the forecasters don't know how to do their job this one time? Not trying to be a jerk, but I also am not going to Georgia to watch a storm. Whoopie.
Cut and paste and check this out: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_astorm9.html At least it has slowed down in its projected path over the day today.

What's with you southerners and holding races with tropical activity knocking on the door. I hope the computer models are wrong, see http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200209_model.html. Kind of reminds me of the days when I would track storms to catch some surf. Guess I need to check the list of indoor parks.
Per NOAA discussion 9/12/02
Tropical Depression Nine:
Beyond 36 hours...a new trough will force the tropical cyclone to move northeastward over the southeastern United States as a weakening system and the cyclone should gradually become extratropical.
