Weather will not be a problem...unless you don`t like skating under blue skies and 80* weather. Haven`t confirmed a timing system yet (Rick?) but there`s more swag coming in. ABEC 11 has offered some wheels. So thats... Cones from Turner Downhill Wheels from Turner Downhill Trucks from Tracker Wheels from ABEC 11
I`ll also be throwing some schyuff into the kitty like.. NOS set of C-62s...???
No need for a ramp start on this hill. Surface is a little rough but rideable. Good runout too. I`ll also supply plenty of refreshments to keep ya hydrated. This is an outlaw race but the least I ask is you wear a helmet and protective gear. The park will be opened in about 6 months and I`ve heard they might be repaving the road. More yummy in the future...
If you come down early enough, we can hang at OLLiewood Saturday Night for the partay and then skate the following morn. Alan said he might leave the ramp open all night for those willing to camp in sleeping bags. Lemme know your plans ahead of time so I can coordinate.
Tickets for the Tony Hawk Boom Boom Huck Jam @ the Office Depot for that Sunday Night are still available. Maybe a good ole hot dog and boiled peanuts fer lunch on sunday?
Again, this is informal but alraedy have about 15 attendees and hope to drag more out from the OLLiewood Skate Jam.
Speaking of the OSJ, this is in Alan`s private ramp in a warehouse. There will be a big tent in the front lot for overspill. We`ll also have a keg of Heineken and Bud Light (wrist bands are mandatory and once you start drinking, you loose your skate band). Attendees are locals, in staters, and outa staters, also the guys from THBBHJ.
It`ll be a fun weekend...c`mon down !!!

Looks like a great even Ricky. I knew Rick was a fast one when I say him ride in WV. The guy rips on the ramps also.
Keep the southern grass growing.
Anyone who is not planning on being at the Vintage and Longboard day at Vans in Virginia this weekend is already behind in DC Outlaw winter series points.
After the response we saw last night at the Tony Hawk Boom Boom whatever jam we are going to be mobbed with new slalom racers this Saturday.

Alright here's the official run down from the MS GRS slalom race...
The race went off without a hitch, well maybe not sqeaky clean, absolute perfection, but nothing major and we always learn by doing. I learned a few things like don't let Mark McCree buy you to many at the local hang out the night before your big race. That is part of his race plan.
The weather held out for us but did give us a scare once or twice when it began to sprinkle. The only thing was the wind. They were very high. This forced us to double the cones thus shortening our course a bit. Speaking of the course, it was 32 cones ranging from 6 foot 4 inches to around 10 foot in the offsets. The ramps worked great. Never a problem. I was worried that they wouldn't hold up through a full day of racing. They survived. I need to come up with a way to attach a starting gate to the ramps to get more consistant starts and prevent jumping the gun. Timing system worked flawlessly. Thanks Tway!
We arrived at the hill on Saturday and found the hill covered with dried clay that a back-hoe working in the area had thrown down on the road. Not good. We worked all day Saturday scaping, sweeping and blowing the blobs away. This stuff was like concrete. We finally got the surface to a raceable state.
I really can't express enough how good it was of all these out of town racers to come so far to race here in Jackson. Having them drive 10 or more hours to attend a slalom race is for me, my biggest prize. It tells me they know we Mississippians know how to do it right.
I have to list this again:
Mark McCree - West Palm Beach, FL - Mark was the man behind the ARA slalom race series in the 70's. He is still active as a promoter, innovator and official tab picker upper. Thanks Mark.
Marcos Soulsby-Monroy - Galveston, TX - Marcos raced with us last April. Thanks for coming back.
Rick Stanziale - Athens, GA - Rick was the promoter of the recent Georgia State Championships. Red Clay Racing is hot!
Jonathan Harms, Jeff Goad & Steve Lewis - St. Louis, MO - These guys snuck up on us. I didn't even realize they were coming. Y'all added so much to the vibe. Thanks for showing up, it was fun, we'll return the gesture. Let us know when.
I'd like to officially congradulate Jeremy Ward (Freek on a leash) for posting the fastest time of all the new racers. He recieved a complete Bahne Black Hill slalom set up for his trouble. By the way this is a nice board. Not the same ole "starter kit". Thanks Jack! He beat out Jacob Shivers by only .22 of a second. Take a stop watch and try to press the start/stop button as fast as you can. This will show you just how close these guys were. Good racing guys and thanks for coming out! Here's our new racers.
Jeremy Ward Cory Ward Jacob Shivers Justin Sebren Chris Sebren Sarah Byrd (Go Sarah!)
The prize sponsors loaded us down. It made me glad to see everyone go home with some goodies, especially the out of towners and new racers. I can't thank enough this group of manufacturers and retailers that made it special for everyone. This goes for our local sponsors too.
Fibreflex Downhill Racing Pleasure Tools Bearings Turner Downhill Tracker Trucks Bahne Skateboards Comet Skateboards Longskate.com Concrete Wave Magazine Park X Skatepark Swell Sk8 Skateshop
I don't want to forget SkateMS.com. Without SkateMS these races would be next to impossible to promote. It's because of them that we have as many racers as we do. Thanks for adding my race to your news section, and for letting me talk it up so much.
Thank you all for making these small events what they are though your generousity and support.
I have to thank my wife Lisa for dealing with the registration of racers, timing and bracketing of the entire race. She was a trooper and deserves much props for her hard work. She did it all by hand. I think next time she's going back to the computer. Thanks Lisa!
Here's how it all shook out...

Full on pro with tents, Winnabago for competitors, Huge floating Bed Bull bouys marking the line up and a party afterwards. These guys are supportive of skate and surf lifestye and deserve props. Local Steve O'hara won his heats and qualified for a spot in the big contest w/ 10000 prize money . Steve also got 3rd in the banked slalom in NY. Go steve! John “Rad” Dillon called & wanted me to post up that he will be heading on out to there after work today. He is also going to try to catch the last showing of the newest Warren Miller movie.
When you think of it, snowboarding is longboard skateboarding on the snow. It also helps out your slalom skills.

Well...well... The forecast is turning in our favor. Still keeping my fingers crossed. Sunday is the day. All we need is good weather, everything else is handled. It's going to be a good one.
Last race we had a total of 11 racers which included 3 who had never touched a slalom board. This race we have, right now, around 13 that are experienced racers with 3 or 4 newbies. It's interesting to see how it's changed in the seven months since our last race.
Watch the www.skatems.com "slalom - downhill" message board for details.

Thanks to all our prize sponsors, Fibreflex, Turner, Tracker, Longskate.com, Bahne, Pleasure Tools, Studio Sk8 & Park X, you guys make it happen. Thanks for your support.
We're going to pull this off, one way or another. Racing in the rain or in a parking garage somewhere doesn't promote the sport as it needs to be promoted, but...

Ahhh. Chuck, I took no offense! I'm just tired of belaboring a point that has become reality that some don't want to accept! I would and always will prefer to race in nice weather. It's easier on the bearings, and much faster! The point I've been making all along is that, if this sport is to see it's potential, than the old mind set, needs to open it's mind! I've been slaloming since '77 and saw it's demise.. Now WE have a chance to turn things around to see that doesn't happen again!! As an organizer,I take things as I see them, and I as well as an overwhelming majority(90 percent) felt to race in the rain(only a mist) was the proper action to be taken!
It's like when a youngster goes to the first big rollercoaster ride sceaming "I don't wanna!" They do it and at the end of the ride they say "Can we do it again?!" Or the 83 year old man who recently stated (after his first sky dive) "What was I afraid of all this time? That was GREAT" I have always stated ,I'd call it off in a heartbeat if it got outta' hand" But it didn't! The course was set appropriately, and the racers had a blast!!! Don't be afraid to take that first big step, If you are, than you're missing out!
