JPL Preview
On 1/4/2003 msk wrote in from (172.172.nnn.nnn)

Anyone who wants a preview of MG's JPL Outlaw race, here's a few clips I shot during practice runs at the last one:

Conedance1.mov (1.7MB)
Conedance2(1.7MB)

These were both shot holding a digital camera running in Quicktime mode (hence the less than perfect image quality). Actual race speeds were faster, as I didn't want to drop the camera, I wanted to make clean runs, and it's tough running a course while trying to hold your right hand motionless... :-)

No snow tonight. The weather forecast for tomorrow looks fine. I don't condone last minute race decisions, but I think it's better to race tomorrow than to wait til next weekend. Some will be away at ECES next weekend. Don't forget, wind won't be a factor at Fountainhead. Let's race!

Slalom on snow since its too wet on pavement
On 1/3/2003 John Dillon wrote in from (204.255.nnn.nnn)

Yo Brian Parsons: Since we are experiencing a 'normal' winter this year in the DC area and it'll be wet again this weekend....I like your suggestion that we switch to race on snow...good news: Liberty has Nastar back this yr after not having it last yr...W'tail has Nastar too....At 'tail this wknd there's also a GS and TS race sat & sun, early morn sign-up, party afterwards, others are scheduled- call me I have a schedule for Lib, 'tail, & Roundtop. Anyone want to carpool to ECES next wed eve & ret thurs eve or friday?I've got the itch...if I can get off work I'm there for a day. We can stop & slalom on any dry surfaces to & from if we can find any on the east coast!

DC OUTLAW RACE
On 1/3/2003 Brian P wrote in from (208.249.nnn.nnn)

Well, the weather has done it again. No outdoor racing in DC this weekend. We will try again on January 11th at Fountainhead park.

If anyone has any questions about our Outlaw Series, or is interested in getting involved in slalom racing in the DC area, please drop me a line.

I know the DC guys are having race withdrawels. It might be a good idea the try to work something out with the Ski resorts to move our racing onto the snow.

Deathbox Expression Session
On 1/2/2003 Arab wrote in from (24.24.nnn.nnn)

Sascha,
Nathan is doing fine, he skated for the first time in 2 months on monday, longest he has been off his board since he was 10 months old. Good luck in the factory div this year.
As for the DB Expression Session I dont know exactly how the course will be set, Think of it as a Cross Country type of Park Slalom event?

Its gonna be Killer! I dont think you have to be pro and I'm sure Hackett would be stoked to have a girl competing in the event. There is only 60 entrants allowed so you should maybe contact Dave Hackett at www.deathbox.com to confirm.

Also you can look on the Contest Calender here at NCDSA to get more info on the event.

Dont know if I'm gonna be there yet?

Arab

deathbox slalom
On 1/2/2003 Sasha wrote in from (209.247.nnn.nnn)

Hey Eric,

I wasn't going to post again, but the moderator said I was ok:)
They gave me 12th at the finals. Scoring is always a drag. It's hard to be the only girl. They always score me way low. But oh well. I've pretty much been the only girl skating Nor Cal for the last 3 years, so I'm not about to give it up now. I'm skating factory this year for Vision. I thought you guys were coming up for it, then I heard about Nathan's shoulder. Is he ok?

Wondering if you have any info on the deathbox slalom ASR weekend? I want to skate it bad, but being new to slalom, I don't quite understand if the entry is pro only? Does that mean pro slalom, or pro steet?

I'll be at the Vision booth or skating the street course at ASR. Drop by if you're there. Or maybe we can sesh sometime the week before as we'll probably head down on mon. or tues. Mom says hi too! Later, Sasha

Me again. I promise this is the last time I'll post for another month at least....After I wrote the second post, I realized it didn't sound the way I meant it. I was trying to say thanks so much for everyone's help answering this question, NOT thanks so much for making the dates the same.
Sorry about that :( Sasha

2003 Morro Bay slaloms
On 1/1/2003 Sasha wrote in from (64.156.nnn.nnn)

Sorry to post again, I forgot something...
It is regarding the dates for the Morro Bay contest this year. I tried to post this question on the slalom skateboarder site, but it wouldn't let me. I hope you all don't mind if I ask it here..
The question is this, is the date for that contest set in stone yet? The schedule said tentative, so thought I'd ask. The reason is that the Triple Crown in Oceanside is the same weekend. Some of us will have to be in both places at the same time. So just thought I'd check. Thanks so much!!

Brooms and/or blowers are needed. The road has some sand and dirty that needs to be cleared.

DC OUTLAW SERIES RACE #2 - Fountainhead regional park.

Longboard will start at 10am. Traditional slalom at noon.

I have all of the boards for the spec class race. I think Noah and Tim have both got there own boards and I will have boards for everyone else. Since this will be the very first Bahne spec race I have a new Bahne T-shirt as a prize.

Anyone in the DC area who has not started slalom racing and would like to check it out this will is a great opportunity. The couses are set fairly easy and the hill and surface are very forgiving. Everyone is welcome. And the DC Crew will have extra boards and pads for anyone who want to give it a try. Drop me a line if you need more information.

I have attached the mapquest map for anyone who still needs directions.

And your posting about the session was NOT a violation of NCDSA user agreement. I'm sure you knew that, just saying it for everyone else's benefit.

South Florida Slalom Saturday
On 12/29/2002 Chuck wrote in from (204.30.nnn.nnn)

It's an event when you are posting to give explicit direction when and where for riders throughout the state to make it. It's an event when you *FINALLY* get a bunch of old guys who ramp/park/pool/bowl ride to come out and check out slalom. It's an event when Mike Rogers, who runs a skatepark associated with the YMCA (among many other contributions to skateboarding) comes out and pledges any support he can give to both helping get thri=ough city beaurocracy to hold races and/or practices, and to introduce younger riders to slalom through the Y. It's an event when Alan "Ollie" Gelfand comes out to race with us, and decides once and for all he wants to start slaloming (and aybe even on something other than a double-kick ramp deck). It's an event when we can turn a p*ssed-off construction foreman who is throwing us off his site under threat of arrest into an ally, and getting the site approved for use by his company, complete with releases, 2 days later. It's an event when the local news networks are notified, and actually send folks out to cover it. It's an event when three local networks air a story on the "middle-aged family men" who are racing on a closed-down portion of an interstate highway. And it's an event when one of those stories talked about attempting to secure a downtown street for a racesite, thus forcing the city to publicly deal with the facts of what we are trying to accomplish.

And just to make sure we comply with the posting guidelines, this was also the Southeast Regional Belvedere District World Outlaw Slalom Championships. We all decided John Gilmour is our new World Champion by virtue of the fact that (a) He did the fastest-looking runs (with no timing system...I hear it's in the mail...how else can you tell...oh and no one b*tched about the results either), (b) he wore the coolest looking sunglasses, and (c) he was the only one to leave blood and skin on the course yesterday. So in light of the fact that World Champion John Gilmour wears Black Flys sunglasses, and every little bit of equipment helps you go faster, I am now going to get myself a pair of 'em. Or maybe just those big white square-framed wrap-around Gucci's I've had my eyes on. For those who care about such things, the World Champion's equipment included Roe and Ed Economy decks, Turner, Seismic, Invader, and PVD trucks, and Turner wheels. He was also seen riding Trackers and Radikals, and some ABEC 11 wheels too (boys and their toys, you know). Rumor has it he even took a run on a *gasp* Turner deck.

Oh, and what makes this race a World Championship? Because we said so. Contrary to popular rumor, there is slalom skateboarding outside of California.

Slappy,
I dont get angry, I'm probably the most even keeled son of a bitch you'll ever meet.

I would like to point out that I'm going to have to report you to Adam for useing this forum in not the manor it was intended for.

Please read the user agreement and posting guidelines before you break more rules, we would all hate to loose somebody with your value and importance to skateboarding because you broke a few little rules.

At this time you will be excussed do to the fact that most kids make mistakes, and you just didnt know any better. Try harder next time though.

This has been a public service announcment courtesy of Arab to warn those people that violate the guidlines on NCDSA.

you dont have to thank me its my duty to look out for the helpless kids.
