Gravity Festival was a blast and I had a great time despite the bad weather at first. I finally got some sliding gloves from Purple Skunk which I'm looking forward to using once my knee heals. Here are some pictures from the downhill events after the first turn. I would have slalom too, but the course was closed due to wetness when I went over there.

The weather should be good for the SF Gravity Fest Slalom Challenge...please arrive early and please do not ride the hill on Saturday or you will not race Sunday.
I want to wish everyone the best at G3, sorry we can't make it..we were invited to run a race as part of the Gravity Festival....we think it's a great opportunity to get slalom in front of a wider audience.

Just wanted to spread the word that were having another Sunday Session on May 4th in New York City. Last week was great and it would be great to see some more riders join the crew! Location and meeting point have not been decided upon yet, but definitely drop either me or Jeff at longboardmaps.com (jgaites@yahoo.com) a mail and let us know that you want to come along. It should definitely be a good ride! We may be heading up north to Harlem for some nice steep ones - let's see...
ride on,

Jim: Hugh r is arriving @ 4pm BWI and he has room for 1 or 2 people in his rental his tel# is 661-810-5650 Last night he said he doesn't mind hanging around BWI for awhile to wait on another who can join him. Give him a call. Also, Arab gets in around 7:30, Chaput arrives I believe @ 4:30. I don't have #s for these folks. If it is all wet, call me on my cell, for if I'm rained out of the sk8 park action, I can get you.

Yo G3 party people! I've been writing down people's tel #s and where they r staying if they posted it recently....so if Mother Nature makes us rearrange plans, contact me on my cell 240-344-0084 and I can relay plan B. Also, contact me if u are planning a plan b....I know several of us have different plans in mind, for example, if dry fri afternoon early eve, some of us are skating roundwall at Waldorf, then doing slalom at the Gaithersburg Park & Ride after the commuter cars leave for an OUTLAW RACE(8:30-9pm?) Others have said if wet a late night(9--11pm) Vans session is in the works; if wet in Waldorf late afternoon, then a Lansdowne session is due(if dry there). If dry in the eve then most people will b @ the G-burg P&R fri night, if wet then the party w/a live brazilian band in DC(info from Anthony Smallwood) looks like a sure bet, others will sk8 the DC streets if dry @ night and attend the party too. Are there any other plans? I'm sure there will also b hotel gatherings too but I don't know about them yet. Let me know if you want me to know about it...or I'll just follow the sound of the party with my party sound detector....also warning: be aware of red light cameras at many intersections, unless you are on a fast stick. I hope to c u all....if not today/tonight, then on saturday! If it's wet and cannot sk8 Waldorf I can get u @ BWI, Arab...if u don't hook up w/ someone else arriving there too...give me a call on my cell240-344-0084....e-mails can b sent to me by 3pm eastern standard time, after that I will not b able to check e-mail. Let's slalom!

SFGF Slalom Challenge Update/Weather Report - San Francisco
Rain has been in the forecast for this weekend but it will blow through before Sunday. Just checked the latest report -- here is a quote from The Weather Channel on line:
"SUNDAY IS EXPECTED TO DRY OUT NICELY AS THE STORM MOVES OUT TO THE EAST. SO ANY OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR THIS WEEKEND WOULD BEST BE SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY.STAY TUNED TO THE WEATHER CHANNEL AND WEATHER.COM FOR UPDATES.... "
We are using the "backside" of the hill that is used for the other non-slalom events so don't worry...the hill is ours all day...get ready for a fast hill with a OK surface.

Here's my schpiel...
AWA flight #81 arrives at BWI at 4:39 PM from Phx. I'm checking a LARGE bag fulla goodies, so I gotta wait anyway!
So it's Me & JimB so far (he gets in just after 5PM...no problems). Room for 1-2 more in the Rental Car & Driving to Gaith that night, so make yourself heard if you need a ride. Email me directly or I may not get to you.
I'm at the Res.Inn in Gaith on a Marriott bender, so I'll also have crash space avail for Fri & Sat nights. No hardcores...I'm too old for that $#!+.
Lastly, I'm gonna need some better info AFA what's going on where. I'd hate to miss anything because I didn't know about it, and I'll have a car. Someone enlighten me...Tway? Bobes? Park, ditch, slalom or DH, I'll be ready.
JimB & whoever, be sure to contact me ASAP at the above email addy for confirmation. Looks like I gotta pack me some warmer gear, eh?

Yo GATHERING 3 attendees: If u r in town fri eve and you wish to ride some concrete roundwall then come join Mike Ohm and myself for a fun session in the early eve(park closes at dark). Yo TK and Tway: I heard u may try an Outlaw Race at the Gaithersburg Park & Ride....don't think about doing it before 9pm....there will b too many cars in the lot....do it after 9pm as there are light there too. See you all at THE GATHERING 3. Yo GBJ: I cannot bring the big push blower like last year as my bro wacked a deer with my truck on wednesday and messed the truck up pretty badly.

In order to introduce slalom to the new school kids and re-introduce slalom to the old schoolers, the DC Outlaw Crew helped set a mellow straight course and simplified the rules. In the end it made for some fun racing and an upset or two.
RESULTS
1st Ben Ashworth (Ben got second at the NYC Red Bull Banked Slalom) 2nd Vlad (DQ’d in the finals against Ben) 3rd Ohm (fastest qualifier) 4th Brian Parsons (tied as fastest qualifier but had a slower 2nd qual run than Ohm’s)
Rally Race Winner (closest to match my time on a leisure run): Mike Ohm won a set of Turner Red Wheels and Pleasure Tool Bearings donated by Bozi Boards.
RULES
Course: Dual lanes 15 cones straight-line on12 foot on center so all could run including newbies.
DQ Rule: 2 cones = DQ.
Cone Time Penalty: None
Qualifier: Best of two runs.
Bracket: 16 man (after a run off of last 4 racers to get down to 16).
Head to Head Racing: Pure single elimination. Race the guy you are bracket up with once down (not twice) and the winner moves on.
OTHER SKATING
Full on launch ramps & rails set up including a pickup truck that people were airing to grinds on top of the bed. Another skater set up a launch ramp and was jumping the truck.
DR
PS, Don’t read too much into Vlad’s loss even though if Ben picked up slaloming for real, he would probably give even the Pros a run for their money; however, we must note that this is the second race Vlad’s has DQ’d in the finals. Last time he made it up for it (in today's race you only got one race down against you opponent).

ATTENTION: For those who will be in the Washington D.C. area for The 3rd Gathering on Friday, May 2...
The Gathering Site (aka Cardinal Picnic Area, Seneca Creek State Park, Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA), will be available for skating during the day on Friday, May 2. Friday is a set-up day, and anyone attending may be asked to pitch in and help for a moment or two, but the hills will be mostly available for some freeform fun. Depending on how much I get done in the meanwhile, I may ask people to not ride one hill or another, while I set a course for the weekend (we will NOT be riding the weekend's courses on Friday), but we'll be there.
This could be a chance for some people to come wear themselves out practicing, before going over to Tway's friday night funfest, less than two miles away at the Gaithersburg Park and Race. By the way, Friday nighters, you can count on fairly persistent automotive traffic at the P&R until about 8:30 on Friday evenings.

Starting on Thursday Knuckleheads from all parts of the Americas will be converging unto the Adams Morgan district a happening part of town. Regrettably, our host has taken leave in order to attend another racing event but has gracefully provided a certain few with the inside info and an empty place in the heart of town. Thanks Dood!!!
Our accommodations are 20 minutes as the crow flies from Seneca Pk. but only if traffic patterns allow. We plan to meet Big Time Dave, a local from the quarter that went downhill a long time ago. We're talking about steep in the inner city where diversity is accepted w/respect. Dave has only recently started skating and already we have something to learn.
There’s a noise of parties and gigs abound, maybe you’ll hear something if you just keep your ear to the ground …
...yeah that’s the sound or us rolling by.
