Athens Sunday Slalom Sessions… In preparation for the upcoming Georgia State Slalom Skateboard Championships, there will be practice sessions on the first and third Sunday of each month leading up to the August 30th race. These practice sessions will help to hone the skills of experienced riders, and will serve as a clinic to help those who are just starting out. We will meet at Holland Youth Sports Complex in Athens, GA. This park is located at the intersection of Newton Bridge road and Vincent Drive(#10 on the map). Here is a link to the map: http://www.athensclarkecounty.com/documents/pdf/leisureservices/facilities_map.pdf Go to the back of the park, past the baseball fields. There is a back entrance to the park that remains locked, therefore there is no vehicular traffic on the road there. This is where we will be riding. We will start at 5pm. Dates; May 18, June 1&15, July 6&20, August 3&17… Hope to see you there!

John is right, last years race in central Park was a blast and the more show up the better it'll be!
One more thing: this Wednesday Jeff from longboardmaps.com is starting his skate Clinics again. So, if you want to learn to ride, or just try other people boards and then head out for a little downtown skate session, just come to NoMoore (name of the bar) on West Broadway and White Street in TriBeCa, nearest subway is the 1/9 train on Franklin Street (1 block away). We will meet at 6:30pm with open end.
Spread the word, hope to see you there,
ride on,
Robin @ longboardmaps.com

I just looked at 66's post of Vlad's picture. And all I can say is that is not skateboarding. It's a Russian freak show. Look at that shirt! What's he doing? Going to a bolshivek street carnival ? God get him a clothing sponoser quick. And that board. I'd be fast too if I rode a tounge depressor . And again I ask you , Is that skateboarding ?

Check out the "freestyle" forum on this site for an update on tomorrow's event. Note also that we announced the "start" time for noon so if you show up before that don't be surprised if you are the only one there . . . It will most likely go all day though (judging by last time) so feel free to pop in throughout the day as it suits you. Primo is coming about 3-ish.

We're all set for the season opener at West LA College on Sunday, May 18, as well as the whole series. I'd think that after 10 years our permits would fly right through the administrative offices, but they still end up drifting around for months. The dates are now all posted in the contest calendar. See you there!

Yeah,I'm really wanting to get an event in there, right after the blackflies are done.I'm tenatively looking at mid-late June, and again in late July/early August. There are certainly enough New England/New York riders, along with not-so-nearby Canadians to make it interesting.I showed JG a Topograghical of it,and THAT got his attention! The Tar survived it's first full winter very nicely intact, and once it's swept up a bit,it'll be gloriously fast and sticky.I'll ask around, and see what dates seem best for the largest group.Anyone who's wanting to chat about it,e-mail me at ebrammer@sover.net . Once I know I've got ten or more riders,I'll set some dates.

I just wanted to put out a big "Thank You" to all those who put effort into this event! It Rocked! Yvonne was amazing, just so on top of everything, effortlessly it seems. GBJ did an outstanding job of laying out courses that challenged everyone, enough so that I think maybe 3-4 people actually got clean, timed runs, with everyone else bopping at least a cone here+there. The 'coneheads' got a workout! The Longboard race was awesome, and I was glad to be able to help set it.Much thanks there for 'bumping' it up on the timetable, even it was distracting to have three race venues back to back to back.Adam had the CyberSlalom set up very precisely, with start/pushing rules that made it fun and very competitive. The other 'fun' races were the uphill slalom and the catamaran race.I wanted to be in the Cat badly, but had leg cramps that almost wiped both Steve and myself out(trying the course layout is a Bad Time to lock up! Thanks Steve for the brakes!!). Despite my poor health and lack of skating(so far-it's still 'mud season' up in VT),I did well enough to put a grin on my face. The company of such wonderful people did a lot to help keep the Stoke going. It's truly a pleasure to see folk with such inspiring enthusiasm, and great sportsmanship. This is Grassroots skateboarding at its best, and I'm forever grateful to have been a part of it. Thanks to all. ;-)

G3 CSC Results

I'll have the full results of the Cyber Slalom Cup event posted on the Contest Calendar in the next day or so. I'm still in awe of the skill and power displayed by Michael Dong and Vlad Popov.. very reminiscent of Simon Levene.
Michael was getting in three full pushes before the first cone and he's not a small guy! If I saw correctly, his last step was parallel with and to the left of the first cone -- while he skated around it on the right! He uncorked an incredible run in the second heat that sealed the win for him, the second and forth heats being run in the more difficult direction. Check the times posted Sat evening on the Slalom forum for the exact numbers.
Vlad was equally impressive and more consistent, logging four clean runs in an event that probably had a >50% DQ rate. We'll be working at streamlining the CSC for its next running. Some ideas in the works include:
1) Two courses set side by side -- one in one direction, one in the other -- for greater rider throughput and less waiting.
2) Improved timing with "big number" displays at the end so the riders can immediately see the times.
3) Time logging in a laptop PC so rankings, deltas, and times can be seen at any time during the contest.
4) T-shirts for all participants!
5) Prizes of some sort.
6) Smaller take-home versions of the Cup for the podium finishers.
If anyone has any feedback on these ideas, or has ideas of their own I'd love to hear them.
Ncdsa.com would like to again thank the volunteer timekeepers (Yvonne Gamble and ????) for their hard work throughout the event. And GBJ and the USSSF should be commended for pulling off a thoroughly enjoyable and highly soulful event. 2004's registration is going to break 100 riders, you heard it here first!

Well, every Gathering surpasses the one before. We had a great time, and it is so encouraging to watch slalom grow. Got to see a lot of old friends, and make a lot of new ones. High levels of talent, technical expertise, and equipment quality were apparent all weekend. We were both very surprised and overwhelmed when GBJ presented the Bozi to Yvonne.
Thanks for everything Andy.
