SUMMER SIZZLE SLALOM SERIES – RACE #1
Things went off bigger than I had hoped, some good fast racing, close times, ass busting, grudge matches forming, and the new guys are getting faster and faster!
Thanks to all for coming out. It rained on us while we were setting up. We sat under the big Red Bull umbrella (Thanks Ellen!) till it stopped. It dried by race time and it didn’t dampen the event at all. Whew!
Results looked like this:
Ricky Byrd 16.096 Nate George 16.413 Josh Byrd 17.606 Jeremy Ward 17.880
Andrew Eure 17.784 Clifton Jennings 17.886 Shane Causey 18.204 Alan Allred 18.553 Jeremy Hilton 19.735 Cory Ward 19.825 Rick Murray 22.348 Landon Cook 26.895
Some Race Times:
Nate George – Fastest Time Of The Day 15.588 Nate lost first place by .047 against Ricky Jeremy Ward lost to Josh by only .074
Series Points as of SSSS #1 are as follows:
Ricky Byrd 25 Nate George 20 Josh Byrd 17 Jeremy Ward 15 Andrew Eure 13 Clifton Jennings 11 Shane Causey 10 Alan Allred 9 Jeremy Hilton 8 Cory Ward 7 Rick Murray 6 Landon Cook 5
We collected $60 for the Ron McDon SK8IT Charity which is happening this weekend. Thanks to all that hung around and helped tear down.
I'll be posting some pictures from the race later tonight.
Next round is Sunday, August 17th, 1:00pm on Road Kill Hill. This is the fastest course in the series. It will be wild. Single lane, best of four runs.

For any of you riders who want to know how that crazy skateboard/snowboard came to be, there's going to be a presentation this Thursday in San Francisco as part of the Meandra design museum.
There will be many photos of original prototypes and designs, as well as early test riding video, and a premiere of a new Freebord short video just cut this summer.
Check it out: 7pm, Thursday July 24 Metreon (Action Theater, 2nd Floor) 4th & Mission Streets San Francisco
$5 general; $3 students (yep that sucks--it's the museum that's charging, not Freebord)

This race is a benefit for the kickoff of the Skate Across America for Lowe Syndrome (Aug 2 Newport Oregon).
In lieu of an entry fee, we ask that racers give a generous donation which will be delivered to the SAA crew as they start out on their 3000 mile journey to raise money for the Lowe Syndrome Association.
We might even get a session going where we will "bet" donations if someone can beat a time on the course. "I'll put up another $20 if Gareth can put down a sub 19 second run" -- something like that.
Many thanks to Dan Loveland of Daddies Board Shop for stepping up and being the contest coordinator. Let's race and support the Skate Across America crew! -- Pat

Thanks Arab. The Jackson skate community has been hassled to no end. A comment was made to one of us that was something like, why don't you guys just fade away, you bring nothing but trouble everywhere you are found. Well... We want to change that image. We're not going away and we can make a difference in the community.
The event is shaping up to be the biggest skate event ever in J-Town (bigger than LSJ?). Already signed on are hundreds of skaters from around the south, donations are rolling in.
Again...If anyone wants to help out, we would really appreciate it. I did not get a chance to involve the slalom and longboard industries due to some things going on in my world but I'm back now and would love for "us" to be represented. E me!

The Jackson, MS skate community is holding a charity event/skate contest which will benefit the local Ronald McDonald House called SK8IT. It will be held at Doc*36 on Sunday, July 26th at 12:00 noon.
This is our way of showing the city that the skate community is part of the big picture.
If anyone would be interested in supporting this event in any way please contact me via email. Donations of stickers, T's, hats, decks or other skate related items are very welcome.
Mississippi Grass Roots Slalom is donating all entry fees from our upcoming three race Summer Sizzle Slalom Series.
Thank you in advance for helping us help out.

Yeah! The race on Saturday was definitely the shiznit.
Thanks to all y'all for showing me a great old time, schooling me, and generally showing some fine southern hospitality. (A little too great, actually, I'm still waiting for the swelling in my knee to go back down.) Got to meet some fine folks, and especially big thanks to PA Dan and el Jefe Bozi for being so kind as to lend me the set-ups to FINALLY get that shortie slalom experience I was so curious about. I get it now! 1,2,3,Go, and then your eyes get wide and the course is just a big old tunnel. I hit lots of cones, made it into the "A" bracket because Vlad left, and then DQ'd twice trying to even stay in the dust cloud left in wake of Brian P. Hell yeah! I put my hands together for Brian P, putting it all together, and generous to the noobs like me. Great meeting you all, I'll see you at the next one.

Had a blast at the race Sat. It was a group of the old DC Crew along with some new faces. I was trying to wire my brand new Roe Crossfire that Gareth made sure I got in time to ride Saturday. Thanks Gareth. I have yet to get it dialed in but it sure is a good shape and the right flex to get me back in the game.
Brian P. put on another great day of racing. Brian now does an "A" grouping and a "B" grouping that makes for more racing for everyone along with some real close races.
Upset of the day included KMG putting WesE. away in the brackets (glad KMG raced him because WesE. can beat me at will now). I ended up with a second place finish behind Brian P. but I wasn't even near him at the finish lines. I have no idea how I ended up beating PaDan. I was also lucky to get past GBJ.
The cones were set more like a GS couse and if you picked the right line on the course, you could beat the other guy if he was off his line. Made for some dramatic head to head duals.
Brian, thanks for a good event. I know you are busy these days.
