The Jersey Jumpoff; "The October Sucks Session!!"
|
On 9/12/2007
Adam J. Dabonka
wrote in from
(96.225.nnn.nnn)
What: The Jersey Jumpoff: "The October Sucks Session!!" Since The Broadway Bomb is just a few weeks away... What a better time than now to enjoy a casual, fun-filled skate through the hills of North Jersey. Seeing the New York skyline as a constant backdrop the whole way through!
Where: North Jersey; in particular: North Bergen, West New York, Union City, Weehawken, and Hoboken. We will be skating through those towns in order as shown.
When: (((((((((((Saturday - October 6th, 2007))))))))))))))))
Why: Because New Jersey Rocks!! Simple enough! Also, because this area has some really nice hills. We will be skating the famous "Empire Drop" hill which leaves you at the foot of the Hudson River looking directly at the Empire State building! As well, about 3 to 4 other really nice hills that you can bomb out or just carve em up for some great skating!! Most of the New York skaters and out-of-towners have only heard about this area ... only a few have actually witnessed it. Now is your chance! Bring your slide-gloves, cones, bongs, beer, and whatever else makes you wanna skate the night away! The Jersey Jumpoff comes when it wants to... No one knows when the next time will be!! We're starting early this time (6:00pm), so everyone should be able to stay till the end!!
*This is "The October Sucks Session", because October is the start of cooler weather, and of course, less skating...which sucks --unless you're Super-hard-core, like Mike-D from Earthwing Skateboards, who is at the Friday Night Rip even when it snows!!! (what's good Mike!)
How: We will meet at the North-East corner of the Port Authority building on 42nd Street @ 6 PM, directly across the street from the Laugh Factory. Just look out for people with longboards. From there, we will take a $2 van ride in Jersey which takes about 15-20 minutes. Once in Jersey, we'll get off on 70th Street in North Bergen and take it from there! We'll hit the 1st hill right away, and from there skate through North Bergen, West New York, and Union City and see NYC from a different angle, and end up at our stop of the night; "Empire Drop". From there I do have an idea of what to do next... but from what I've learned the last time is that nothing is set in stone, so we'll just see what becomes of the night as we go. Plan on skating the whole night with some really awesome people!
For those in Jersey coming out to the area: Meet us at the 1st stop of the night "Empire Drop"; technically called Pershing Road:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...3d&ambiguity=1
We should be arriving at this location sometime around 7:00 pm
On the way back to NYC, you can either get a $2 van back to 42nd Street. or take the Path train ($1.50) back into NYC at various stops along the way; Christopher St., WTC, 9th, 14th, 23rd, or 33rd St. or you can take the NY Waterway Ferry back to 23rd/West Side Highway ($5.50 one way).
The Jersey Jumpoff is always a great event... no races, prizes, or vanity. Just a huge session that makes a life of its own! We had a great turnout last time... hope to see everyone there!!
This is an open invite. So bring yourself and a friend or two!
**Rain-date is the following day, 6/7/07. And if it rains Sunday too.. well than, October really does suck after all!!
Thanks, Adam J. Dabonka
**THIS IS THE LAST JERSEY JUMPOFF OF THE YEAR.... SO IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT... HOPEFULLY I'LL SEE EVERYONE NEXT YEAR!!!
SKATE FAST. SKATE SAFE.

Action obsession or middle age madness? Rich Sayers and friends will skate at 45 different Northern California skateboard parks
in 15 days of skating to celebrate his 45th birthday. This is also a showcase of the
many public skate parks we now enjoy. Rich learned how to skate vert
at age 40; getting back on a skateboard after not having skated
for almost 20 years. There were bumps, sprains, bruises and
scrapes -- but the thrill of zooming around on concrete walls,
grinding coping and doing handstands to fakies.

Hey everyone,
WOW ... that was an amazing Board Meeting yesterday! An unofficial 250 longboarders! No arrests! Only one minor hospital visit! Hundreds, if not thousands, of photos taken! Thank's to Jacob and his army!
It's hard to match that sort of event, but you can still have a great time at a MetroLongboarding session. The next one is Sunday Sept 16. The planned location is the High Park area, including Ellis Ave and maybe Riverside Drive. Meet up at Hogtown around 12 noon or the restaurant in High Park around 12:45 or so.
Sk8 with ya later! Tom metrolongboarder@gmail.com

Okay racers – here’s the latest from the Gravity Fest Committee…….. Race takes place Last weeken in July in Munnsville NY. Hope you'll come check it out!!! Check our website or www.gravitysportsinternational.com for more information.
• Free Camping at the American Legion on the hill. If you don’t want to camp check out the Madison County Tourism website for lodging information. WWW.MadisonTourism.com Click on “Places to Stay” Note: Wendt University Inn in Hamilton (12 miles away) is a sponsor of Gravity Fest. Some of the local hotels are already filled – make your reservations now!!! • Showers provided free at the local school: shuttles take you twice a day • Legion will serve a breakfast buffet Saturday and Sunday beginning at approximately 6:00am. No charge – Donations accepted. • Legion will also serve dinner on Saturday night after racing & awards; again no charge, but donations will be accepted. • Parades Friday night at 7pm, all racers are invited and encouraged to participate. We will provide some form of trailer for you to ride on again this year. Community Fair opens after the parade, food will be available for purchase. Fireworks at 9pm. The Ruritan’s have been working hard to bring some new things to the fair this year. • Chicken BBQ from Munnsville Volunteer Fire Dept will be available for lunch on Saturday. This is the group that provides the EMT coverage on the hill during racing. Cost is less than $8.00 for a full chicken meal, believe its approx $4.50 for just chicken. It would help immensely if we could get an idea of number ahead of time. Please send us an e-mail to let us know if you intend to purchase either a meal or just chicken. We will pass the information along so they can order enough. The food is brought to you at the top of the hill; you don’t have to go get it. • BIO CARDS: All bio card information must be received by Friday July 13th. It takes time to assemble the information and get them to the printers. We will accept no information after this date. Information wanted: 2 photos; 1 in racing gear and one that clearly shows your face (we want your adoring fans to be able to find you for an autograph), Where are you from, sponsors, how long have you been racing, what is your event(s), etc... Watch our website; we will have an example on-line in the next day or two. • Postage Cancellation: Again this year we have our own special postage cancellation that will be available Friday night at the Community Fair and on Saturday. You will need your own envelope or postcard w/ postage on it to get the cancellation. We will have envelopes and postcards available for purchase. There is no fee for the cancellation. • MCGF 6 T-shirts should be rolling off the press very shortly. Watch the website and message board for the news. • Early payments for T-shirts, lanyards, Sharpies, bio cards and Chicken BBQ can be made ahead of time, one less thing to worry about having money for on race weekend. Just drop us an e-mail or a note to let us know what you want to purchase and we will tell the amount you will owe. Then you can send us a check or money order ahead of time. We’ll set your purchases aside for you to pick up when you get here.
