I ain't gonna be around those days, but I'm coming home from school and would be down for the 10th or the 17th of December, if anyone would be interested. I ain't a huge longboarder, but I am a pretty decent freeboarder, kinda like a snowboard with wheels (www.freebord.com), and always open to meeting new people and riding nice hills. I have been longboarding for about a year, but I've never really done big downhills all speedsuit style, but I'd be interested in checkin it out. So let me know. I'm from Laguna Niguel in Orange County btw, if anyone is around and wants to ride over christmas break from like the tenth through the 22nd, which is when I'll be around. Later.

Hey Mikey G, was that you letting me ride your G&S slalom setup at West LA? Thanks for letting me enjoy it while the fun lastet. I'll try to have one of my own by february (but since yours put me out of commission for 6 weeks I almost think it should be gracing my walls at home, instead of some sad looking antlers). Let me know if you need to find good home for it.

IMHO a run without a time can only be a practice run. It would be like dq'ing someone for a false start- when the clock never even started! Next year I would really enjoy bringing a couple of east coasters and perhaps some Euro riders to the events. I'll be in great shape after the snowboard season, I'll practice, buy sneakers and get my gear road ready. I'll have to...because this time I'll bring Italians and Swedes and Swiss....oh yeah I'll also bring some guys to ride.

A small correction. Whether or not it is because Ed Economy is a classic longboard rider or GS fan or because it was the only race that wasn't rained out the time before, the Turner was to be awarded to the winner of the Fast Slalom (GS) and not the winner of the tight slalom. Even though John and I thought that prize was more appropriate for tight slalom, the result would have been the same, only not as close. For a while, John's second and final run had been DQ'd but the clock didn't start and we were trying to signal him to him to stop but he wasn't sure so he kept on going. The opinion at first was that, if knew the clock wasn't working he should have stopped and didn't (DQ) or that he didn't know and hit 3 cones and would have DQ'd anyway. This was no way to determine the fate of a Turner and we lobbied (succesfully) for John to have another run. At that point I didn't need to take a second run because my first time was good enough for the Turner. Then John's second run bested my first run. I'd have to earn the Turner (the way it should be). As it turns out, eightynine one-thousandths of a second (less than 1/10) was the margin of victory in our second runs and it was the number of cones knocked down that ultimately decided which coast the Turner would go to. The cleaner Gilmour knocked down one fewer than the reckless Chaput and so the bragging rights on the East Coast are secure until the next race. Tell me I don't have a severe case of the old "woulda, coulda, shoulda's" and a little "if only I had/he hads".
Johns clean run in the tight slalom would have bested my run by 3/10's of a second even if I hadn't hit the 2 cones. I was also wrong about my longboard time, even without deductions it was a full second behind John's although I know I had more fun than anyone on Ed's Supertanker! John is class act and a force to be reckoned with. I can't wait to do it again!

IGSA/Westwood Sports Club Race Results November 19, 2000, West LA College, California By Scott Peer and Marcus Rietema
Racers were greeted by warm and sunny weather at the final races of the 2000 International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) Westwood Ski and Sports Club race series. Practice started in the morning on all three streets, with riders being able to choose which event to practice first. Then the races started just before noon, with practice continuing after the races on each street. The field was exceptionally strong, with riders coming from as far away as Boston and Washington State to enjoy the friendly racing atmosphere and pleasant southern California weather.
The first race was the "fast slalom", which was a course of over 30 cones on the 10 percent grade main hill. It was a best of two run race, with a 0.1 second penalty for the first two cones displaced, and disqualification for three or more cones displaced. The course was set with an irregular rhythm and cones spaced 5 to 10 meters apart, offset from the fall line by 0 to 3 meters. Riders had to look ahead to stay out of trouble. John Gilmour won both the longboard and shortboard races, with Chris "Number 2" Chaput under a tenth of a second behind on the shortboard. Scott Peer won the inline race by a wide margin.
During the tight slalom practice, John Gilmour displayed a style that prepared everyone else to race for second place. The prize for the race was a pristine Turner Summer Ski board, which still looked like the day it was made decades ago! Gilmour continued his flawless riding in the race, to win the classic board, and make his trip from Boston a success.
Gravity speed bikes inaugurated the new downhill course, which starts down the 13% grade of C street, and takes a right turn into the parking lot, followed by a 180 degree left to the finish. Dan Hanebrink beat Dwight Garland for the pro title. Mike McIntyre showed that he knows how to ride more than just street luge in the amateur division. In the open class, Jared Hanebrink brought home the second win for his family.
It would be hard to pick a faster group of riders for a classic skateboard (buttboard) race. The difference between advancing and being eliminated was often a few feet. In the end, Darren Lott, the tireless promoter of the sport and world speed record holder triumphed, with Dave Rogers squeaking ahead of Bob Ozman for second place.
Many thanks go out to our generous sponsors, including Ed Economy (for donating the grand prize, a Turner Summer Ski), Dan Hannebrink (for donating the bike prizes, including tires, a seat, grips, lube, and slide pads), Bones bearings, Kryptonics and Hyper wheels, and Darren Lott "Street Luge Survival Guides".
The 2001 season is being planned, with a race series and points leading to the crowning of season champions.

Last Sunday was beyond epic. The racing, weather, and friendly atmosphere were fantastic. Thanks to Scott Peer for such an amazing event. Sorry about that brutal get-off Attila, I'm now calling my G&S "Widowmaker". We also followed it up with a memorable Revere session. The glory days of old-school skating are right now.I'll be there at the dump on sunday Hugh, if we get there early maybe we'll be done when OC's finest show up.

Thank You Scott Peer and Marcus Rietema, Derek, Marvin and everyone for showing up and getting it done. These events are so important to the rebirth of old school skateboarding and to the future of buttboarding and skating and gravitybikes. I really respect the effort that you guys consistently put forward and want you to know that it does not go unnoticed. Let me know what I can do to help in the future. Perhaps I can help put together some product for prizes and put the word out on my websites.
For anyone wanting to compete or just to hang out with some very cool, very talented and very approachable racers, this is the place. Plenty of toys to try and test. The good times have come full circle and I'm stoked to be a part of them.

Some of you out there have undoubtedly heard of it, but for those of you that don't know what it is, I ride a freeboard, which rides a lot like a snowboard . . .tail slides out and you can carve or slide as much as you want. There's a small group of us around here that all ride, always looking for groups to ride with, and I know you guys seem like big bombers, but if you'd have me/us, I'd be down for some rides, especially on a hill that sounds that good. Throw up a post if anything is going down. Later.

I too am ready for the 26th as I can't make this weekend at West LA(my son turns 3 on Sunday). And will skate, permit or not(I'll just be there early, ha ha). But would like to at least look into what it will take to do it leagally. Any Orange County residents want to make a few calls.
Anybody remember if that cop said it was a county or city road?

Keep me in the loop on any upcoming skate sessions. I may race at the slalom event on Sunday. Today we skated a five mile run down Encinal canyon all the way to the PCH, 20-30 MPH for 15 minutes or more. It gets faster at the bottom with the new asphalt. It's a genuine Malibu legburner. Anybody ready to try some highly technical yet not lethal GS I have the killer spots, low traffic, smooth surface, long. and varied grades. Fat City Racing lives. Good skating with you guys at the dump. John O'Shei, (the guy in the back of the police car).
