Hello to all of you fellow downhillers. If any of you guys are into some downhill skateboarding races, then I have some great news for you. This fall NBC will be airing the Gravity Games. The Gravity Games, for those of you who haven't heard, are the NBC version of an X Games style event. They will feature alternative style sports, including downhill skateboard racing, street luge, skateboard vert & street, free-style motorcross, wakeboarding etc. So, if you would like to race and qualify, then you need to participate in the following events: May 29 & 30, 1999 Santa Rosa, California July 31 & August 1, 1999 Mammoth Lakes, California
These races are brought to you by Extreme Downhill International (EDI) the sanctioning body of downhill skateboarding and street luge. We have been running races for over three years, and are responsible for the downhill skateboarding races of the 1998 X Games.
If you would like to particpate, send an e-mail with your name, address and phone number, requesting the information to be mailed to you, or give us a call at 619-272-3095.
See you at the races, Biker Sherlock President

As you know, we been kicking around possible locations. A quick recap. We are looking at a two-day contest, most likely at two different locations. One day would be bank riding, bank slalom, freestyle, and whatever, and the other day would be downhill freestyle, slalom, giant slalom, and whatever (possibly butt boarding).
One of the possible locations for the hill events is Golden Gate Park. Well, I did some research. The first step to getting permission is to write a letter of intent to the San Francisco Department of Parks and Recreation.
We'd like to be real specific about what part of the park we are talking about. So here's what we need. We need someone or possibly a couple of people to check out Golden Gate Park and make suggestions on a suitible location. Here are the guidelines. For downhill freestyle, slalom, giant slalom, and possibly buttboarding, you would want something that is smooth and wide (this may not be an option in Golden Gate Park), and steep, but not so steep that your average longboarder can't make it down, with enough run out that you can slow yourself down after a slalom run. Maybe the ideal thing would be a hill that has both steep and mellow sections. For downhill freestyle, line of sight may be a factor so that the judges can see the moves. For butt boarding, a sidewalk that winds through the park might be perfect. Bear in mind that all of the events will probably be in the same general location, and that it needs to be a spot that will not adversely affect the rest of the park, i.e, it shouldn't be something that closes the only road that goes all of the way through the park or cuts off one of the park's most popular locations.
For the bank spot, I stumbled across a skatepark on the net. I have no idea whether it would be appropriate or not. Here what the skatepark directory at www.skateboard.com has to say about it:
San Leandro Public Skatepark San Leandro, CA From SF take the 880 south and exit Davis St. The sign off the 880 should say something about the BART station. Head east on Davis and look for Thrasher Park on your right. If you get to the BART station you've gone too far. The skateboard facility is in that park. It is all concrete and features solid quarter pipes that form a hip in one area and spines into a bowl that is 7/8 completed. The funbox is a waste of concrete. The park is free but supervised. They want you to wear all pads but as long as you have on pants and a long sleeve shirt, you can get away w/only a helmet. They have lights so skating at night does happen, but only till 8pm. It's pretty darn fun if you're in the area.
Has anybody ever ridden this place? Would it be good for longboard bank riding, bank slalom, and is there a decent size smooth flat area to do freestyle. Or if you're in the are and want to check it out, pleas do so. If anyone has information, please post it or email me. We could use all the help we can get. Later

We've got dates, June 19 and 20th. After a bit of soul searching and a buttload of emails, we're starting to make some progress. Probably the biggest news is that it looks like Rich from Soul Carve is going to plan his move back to the U.K. around coming out to this contest. Right now, we need to decide on a site or sites for the contest. We're thinking one day would be bank riding, bank slalom, freestyle, and ???, and the other day would be downhill freestyle, slalom, giant slalom, and ???.
I going to create a home page for the contest this weekend and will post the url ASAP.
If you have any suggestions for sites or want to help out organizing the contest, you can email me or better yet join our mailing list by filling out the form at:

(assuming I have the day off) SPRING BREAK!! Yes! I just thought of that. I'm available April 2-9th excluding Tuesdays and Thursdays. When can some other people meet?

Let's try to make it better this year.... Anyway, who wants to ride? Dan, Adam, are you guys down? What about Randal or Mr Coleman? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller, Bueller. Ok, peace!
