Sorry no pics from the ride... It was a mellow day. A few of the hard core guys showed up... good to see Chris S was let out to play with his buddies (after his last few spills, smart money was on momma sayin "no more")

Weather was great... vibes were cool (tired but cool)

It was a pretty short day because most of us had to spueeze it in with promises not to be home late!

I am hoping to make it again in 2 more weeks (ends up I have to work this sunday)

Had one guy (nice to meet you Grinch) come down from far up north! Hoping to stop by his stomping grounds on the "ugly motorhome tour", maybe on the way to or from mammoth... HR

Hey Dave... that's good news! I have a fullface bell downhill that fits my giant mellon snug that should work for you. If you'd like, I can bring a motorcycle helmet that fits my huge skull well (might be a little big for your regular sized head) let me know... here or e-mail... HR

12/24 Dump
On 12/23/2000 Hamm wrote in from (63.39.nnn.nnn)

Looks like I'll make it without too much static from wifey.
Though I doubt it will happen, I'm hoping my cheap leathers come today. If I can barrow a helmet, I'll try to give Chaput somebody to draft & pass. If my leathers don't come, I'll just be carving..............

sunday dump
On 12/23/2000 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

This sunday I will be on a mission... a mission to get down the hill faster than Mr C.

I won't be able to do it standup (the old guy IS FAST)... so I will first attempt it on a luge.

If that fails, then it will have to be a foot race. If he's faster than he looks, then we will try running backwards.

If he still beats me, then I will ask my brother to bring his Nova. I am sure that this 600 hp monster will smoke that ol' motorhome!

Bottom line is that one way or the other "Chris, your ass is mine!" :) xxxooo :) HR

Hey fells,
Well, as far as he trip, I'm down! I live in the Sierrra range, and can tell you that the weather is PERFECT in April. Well, it's only perfect when the wind isn't acting up, but we have ahd a pretty good year without it so far, so we'll see. E-mailme if anyone has any questions. Later.

dump and mammoth
On 12/21/2000 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

Dave,

My bro and I as well as 2 of my kids will be there on sunday... we'll be shooting for 9am or thereabouts. I will probably need to leave around 1pm at the latest to get the family obligations taken care of. I am planning on showing up even if we are the only ones!

The Morro Bay idea sounds good (if the timing works out)... maybe we could do a little costal action before hitting the Sierras.

I think it would be cool to video the whole experience... edit it up and we got some memories. HR

I think I'm going to take a Mammoth Dump
On 12/21/2000 Hamm wrote in from (152.163.nnn.nnn)

Can I get a roll call of 12/24 Dump Rd participants?
I'm weighing the pros & cons of skating on X-mas eve. I'm sure you married w/kids guys know what I mean: fun vs. pissed off wife.

Hugh, not sure if I can pull off a week and not sure what my range would be but, I am interested in THE TRIP. I can't help but thinking we'd want to coincide it with the Slalom event in Morry Bay, whenever that is. By starting or ending the trip at the Morro Bay event, we might be able to get more people involved that might not be able to do a whole week.

what do you think?
Dave

ugly tour
On 12/20/2000 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

If were going to hit the Sierra's were going to have to wait for some of the snow to melt. How is it up there in april?

I'm thinking that around the easter/spring vacation time would be good for me (that way I can bring along my two skater sons)

With advanced notice, I can be pretty flexible with my schedule at work.

We may want to start putting together a list of some of the areas we want to stop at. Possibly some of the locals who post here can help us out with campground/motel/restaraunt/riding locations and info, etc... I can post maps and stuff on my page.

We can be as detailed in our itinerary as you guys want. Super detailed, or seat of the pants... either works for me.

An advantage to super detailed would be that guys who could only make it for a day or two would be able to hook up with the rest of the guys in route.

I figure to take a week off from work and stack in a couple of weekends. Worse comes to worse... I will have my fishing poles!!!

I spoke to my brother and he's giving the thumbs up on the trip too... HR

Mammoth tour
On 12/20/2000 Scott Peer wrote in from (205.188.nnn.nnn)

If the tour winds through Mammoth for a weekend, maybe we can make it coincide with a slalom or giant slalom race or practice there. We did a giant slalom day last year in one of the parking lots (with free permit courtesy of the ski area), and would like to repeat this year. Not surprisingly, the Sierras are full of awesome rides, too.

Brickyard
On 12/20/2000 Glen Da Val wrote in from (216.102.nnn.nnn)

We had a great session last night. Ed Issac's and Roger showed up with their awesome Alva and Caster repros. I helped to convert a shortboard guy to longboarding. He made the mistake of asking if it was hard to drop in on a longboard. I let him try on my extra Team 39" that I brought. He ended up ripping on the thing for the rest of the night. It was funny to watch him try to ride his shortboard after having spent an hour on a longboard. Tom Fain was the board master switching runs between his Gravity Team 39", his "Tom Fain" model shortboard, to his custom 8 wheeler ( ya bro, 7 wheels out, and an invert to boot). A couple of little kids asked what was with all the old guys riding all these weird boards. One asked if it was some kind of "old school" reunion. The answer....

YES. Every Tuesday night at the Brickyard

DC Downhill Classic 2001
On 12/19/2000 Bob Swartz wrote in from (206.246.nnn.nnn)

I just got word from Tony Smallwood of the DC Downhill Club, that the Washington DC officials
of the Adams Morgan Day Festival loved this years race and want another. The date to mark on your calendar is Sept 8, 2001. The weekend after Gravity Games DH events.
Also the good news is.....somehow the road the race was on (15th Street NW) now has a fresh coat of the black stuff to make it smooth and one of few roads free of pot holes in DC.
IF you dont know what you missed last year just ask Chaput, Kludy, Lowry, or Golter...

CA ugly motorhome tour
On 12/18/2000 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

What do you boys think about this one...

Some time after winter (maybe during a school break so that he youngsters can come) lets put together a "California Tour". Load up the skateboards, butt boards, luges, scooters, fishing poles, whatever you got... hit the road and as many hot spots as we can in a week.

Or maybe we caravan to Utah and see if Officer Sherman can share some of his spots out there.

We can go low budget (which always works for me) and camp out along the way. Do a little skating, do a little fishing, hang out with the buddies...

What do you think? HR
