=======================================

The other night
my mother and I ran into Bob Ballou at
The Crab Cooker Restaurant, in Tustin, Ca.

Bob owned Powerflex Skateboards - back in the mid 1970'S.
He helped out a lot of young skaters, and helped them go
on to bigger things in life.

Skitch
On 2/20/2007 Chris Yandall wrote in from United States  (70.167.nnn.nnn)

My good friend in Kona knew of Skitch living in a neighbors backyard. He was recently told to leave the island according to a few sources.

He and Ed Nadelin were expert free foot skaters that did interesting moves while gripping the board with their toes.

Man, didn't seem like it was too long ago when we all congregated in Del Mar paving the way to today's industry.

I'm still happy to be hanging in there in good health and still skating :) and will continue to skate for my era proving that some of us old timers like Coleman still find those trucks, boards and wheels a fascinating fun device.

I'm holding up my glass of merlot/cab and toasting the days when Skitch was blowing audiences away with his supreme gymnastic/athletic moves. He'll forever live in my mind as a skateboard hall-of-famer!

Skitch Hitchcock dying

Skitch Hitchcock is in Mission Hospital in Laguna Hills suffering from liver failure. He is not expected to last long. If you know anything about skate history you know who he is.

All time fave
On 2/13/2007 Joe Lehm wrote in from United States  (65.19.nnn.nnn)

Jack, the one of you being chased by the Mustang is my all time fave, we have used it here at Skate School for ads and and it's on our website. I guess I owe you royalties by now.

I'm looking for a copy of Punkture Madness for Skate School, any leads? I'm obsessed with the Turning Point ramp which I enjoyed at Marina back in '79. Cradles are fun, don't get me wrong, but the 16 degree slope of Turning Point is what made it pumpable and special. I still consider it the first real loop and it was mastered by many. Any pictures out there? Ambitious builders?

Hey Adam- could you please copy this thread/forum into an archive because I doubt people will go to the trouble to scan photos in again and it would be a shame to see some of these vanish to dead links in a months from now.

Rolling back the clock

1977 San Luis Obispo County Championships

Sunday races in Los Osos, California. This is
where Fluitt, Dunn and I used to practice. Judi Oyama took the photo.

My first backyard ramp, 1976 0r 1977.
My pal Dave Arend and I dreamed up this creation after a trip to Skatopia on opening day.

Me being carted off to the hospital
with a seriously broken arm. Five day stay in hospital. Broke it in the freestyle event at SLO COunty Championships.

Just plain stupid. New Years Day 1975,
trying to break 40mph. 8" wide mahogany deck, Chicago trucks with one bushing removed from each truck, replaced with steel
washers, Roller Sports loose ball wheels. We weren't smart enough to have the car track me a bit off to the side.

The pic was taken in Greenville SC around 1984 at halpipe contest sponsored by 17th street Surf Shop in VA. The Thrasher Wagon belongs to Tim Paine I believe.
