My brother todcar races slalom regularly. We both started skating in the early seventies. Wood decks with x-caliber trucks and open bearing wheels. The ups guy was our favorite, because in Michigan everything came from CA ups. No empty pools or drainage ditches,no giant pipes in the desert. Just the occasional hill or architectural anomoly to skate on. We LIVED for our next Skateboarders Mag. to be delivered. To see Alva,Peralta,Hester, the Logans and so many others ripping in territory so unfamiliar to us was daunting and yet inspiring.
And now when I log on to this website, I hear so much non skate related crap.
Yeah, exercise your right to free speech. But do it in the correct forum.
Dubya and saddam don't give a %$*! about you when you're skating. Give yourself the same power! Skate all you #%$*&^# dogs.....SKATE!!!!

i've seen that list too Cliff...and i'm not really into the
args right now...but um, that list is a little misleading...
it's kind of an oversimplification to say that all bombs
are dropped for all the same reasons ( to create democracy..
which is, i think what the last paragraph there on
the list is insinuating? ) becasue they're not..for instance,
the bombing of Yugoslavia was not to create a democracy
but to try to stop a genocidal regime...and we didn't bomb
the Iraqi's to put a democracy into Kuwait but to drive
the Iraqi's out of it...and korea and china in the 50's wasn't for the same reasons as Guatamela...i mean, the
idea that american bombing is to create democracies makes
about as much sense as saying american exports are to
make pro-american consumers ( it doesn't work..there's lots
of KFC's for instance in the middle east..)..anyway, saying
that's a 'history test' under the generalization that
they were all bombed to create a democracy is totally inaccurate...

personally, i think the idea of bombing iraq to 'contain'
saddam is kinda silly...he's already contained and we
have far more imminent threats than himself...

no bombs at all, ever, anywhere, done by any government
would be great...

Herbn... thanks for taking the time to read/respond to my uniform theory post. I was disenchanted at the time because it drew no responses!

While I do look deeper into things than to take them at their face value, there are certain very recognizable icons out there, that when they are used the surface level is so strong, that underline meanings pale. Most of these seem to mire themselves in calls of free speech or artistic expression.

The US Flag is such an icon... as is a red/white checkerd scarf on the head and an AK in the hands firing in the air. Now place that flag on fire in the midst of the rifle shooters and the message is pretty unmistakable.

Put the flag in the form of a diaper on a twisted man, and that message is unmistakable too.

While many times things are not as they seem to be... sometimes they are exactly what they look like.

Pretending something is different than it really is, is a deception. Doing it with an icon that is so unmistakable in it's meaning is even worse.

My two cents... HR

Here is something for you hawks to think about.

Quick Political Scholastic Aptitude Test:

This test consists of one (1) multiple-choice question (so you better get
it right!) based on the following list of countries that the U.S. has
bombed since the end of World War II, compiled by historian William Blum:

China 1945-46
Korea 1950-53
China 1950-53
Guatemala 1954
Indonesia 1958
Cuba 1959-60
Guatemala 1960
Congo 1964
Peru 1965
Laos 1964-73
Vietnam 1961-73
Cambodia 1969-70
Guatemala 1967-69
Grenada 1983
Libya 1986
El Salvador 1980s
Nicaragua 1980s
Panama 1989
Iraq 1991-99
Sudan 1998
Afghanistan 1998, 2001-2002
Yugoslavia 1999

------------------------------------- ----------------------------------
In how many of these instances did a democratic government, respectful of
human rights, occur as a direct result? Choose one of the following:
(a) 0
(b) zero
(c) none
(d) not a one
(e) a whole number between -1 and +1

I read back, quite a way back, didn't realize the reading was so good here ,or maybe it's a rainy sunday and i havn't gotten over to my workshop yet to press that new board.I've been told the civil war was economics, in the south ,due to climate and the nature of the business it was cheaper to house and feed slaves, in the north it's cheaper to pay a minimum wage and let the workers go out and house and feed themselves, there was no moral high road. Essentially the north needed freed black slaves to come up north and work in factories.
Enter "the Hugh theory of uniforms", very tue, but, a uniform can have SO many different or subtle interpretations ,it's so subjective, and rarely anonymous and literal. Ex. the really rich guy who dresses down , like the rock star who buys jeans with preworn holes in the legs, the homo that parodys a cop or a woman...Is skin color part of a uniform? So ,with a life time of many contradictory "uniform" experiences , we all develope a uniform deciphering system , did you really think that flamboyant motorccycle cop was a real cop:) and someone who sees an apparrent uniform and immediately comes up with a long list unflapable assumptions that "have to be true",well do you do that? ,You could start with apparent things like skin color, i hope not. By the way the assumptions are not the bad part, they could be uncontrollable ,ingrained since childhood, it's the inflexibility that you can control. Take my interpretation of Mr PVD's 666.At first, sign of the devil, since i don't believe in that stuff, but if he does it's negative. what else has he done, he's made trucks,he's mechanicly minded ,scientific, intellegent, ect ect, this is not catching someone spray painting 666 on the side of your garage over an animal sacrifice. Do what you want, the uniform thing is just to superficial, it might be very true, but at the same time it's not that simple ,it shouldn't be and if you check yourself you'll hopefully find that you don't interprete uniforms all that literally.

Army doesn't work like that. If the troops start making decisions they get killed. Officers make decisions and troops implement them. That is the sole purpose of basic training. To condition the men to act when told.

sorry, got a little memoried away there... at any rate if we are as a nation are going to put troops on the ground, let no man be his judge. the man holding the rifle gets to make the decision on whether his target, a human, is eliminated or not. don't set up some kind of parameters. if we are not willing to do that we should not be there. look for another solution. because it costs a lot and i don't mean money. i' m done.
