i just spoke to manu, he claims over 50 wins in downhill skateboarding but far more in snowboard gs and f1 kart. i guess thats why he led the way in technical riding, he knows how to slide. oh and he has personally discovered various deep space objects including comets and nebulae using lenses he ground himself. top that..................

Sure, LA to Alberqerque is a long way. And a different kind of beauty to the scenery of Europe.
But compare the number of Europeans over the last 3 years who have attended US SLALOM races with the number of Americans who have attended any Euro races.
Gilmore, Richy, Kenny, Brewington, Dong, Gesmer, the Gordons. And Vlad. Any more we can add to the list?
There is an argument that the best racing is in the US, so that might be the reason. A truer picture is that the race scene in Europe is different from the US, and this site, and many Americans dont fully understand the nature of the racing. By Wax stating that the French courses are flat needed to be corrected. Otherwise you'll never come over will you?
America does have a lot, but certainly not 'Everything'. Thats why I live in Europe, Thanks.

I met Manu at the 2001 GGP Slalom Race put on by Fat City Racing. Very cool guy. He was there to race Slalom. I remember thinking I had the "longest distance traveled" prize until he showed up. I can't remember what place he came in but he was there and he raced. TK

Michelle, I don't want to defend americans for being ignorant of the rest of the world, and I personally have spent 10 hours in a plane more often than i want to remember but to your list of "dont, cant, or wont travel" you might want to consider "don't need to travel out of our continent". We've got everything here. All those guys who went to New Mexico from other states travelled as far or farther than you would to go to any country in Europe.
As for not having passports, remember that, as Jack said, Americans don't need passports to travel in North America, which means they have 9,500,000 sq. miles to travel in sans passport. (conversions: 6bil acres, 2.5bil hectare, or about 25mil square kilometers)

Cher Jacques Le Smithier, (Iack Smith.
Asking about whether Wax has a passport was meant to convey my absolute frustration that a skater should see the need to belittle a whole nations ability to skate hills, and was from my perspective that as Americans dont, cant, or wont travel, they often show ignorance about other countries.
I have now been corrected, obviously going to visit Angleterre and L'Eccosse means that he is an expert on whether the French do slalom on hills. As for downhill skating, it is well known that the French are some of the most insane downhillers, doing very difficult courses.
Also over the past 10 years the French have held downhill, steep and fast SLALOM competitions in ski resorts, ask Martin Drayton. During these years there were NONE, count them NONE, slalom races of any description in the US. Why this should lead someone (Wax) to believe the French are spineless is ridiculous. Aurevoir!

hi wax i dunno what euro slalom contests you have been to, but i've seen a few and only one of those was flat. it was flat because it was held at a permanent indoor facility. all the others were on hills.
i dont like to think of myself agreeing with chaput but lets face it, manu fekin rips or at least he did till he went under that car. kids with spines? ive ridden at up to 60 mph knocking elbows in the turns with them already thanks. we dont need anyone to teach us that.

Hey all you talkers! It ain't about who has the most wins - it's about who has the most RESPECT. You can't get no global love without stepping up in every environment and every type of course - not just shallow-sloped wiggling and head-daon charging. Granted that is some tough and technical s#@! and I have mad respect for those guys. It's not about the number of races that your sponsor could afford to send you to. It's about who walks away with the hardware when they can show up.
At the end of the day it's sack size and podium placement that determines where you stand.
And the boys in black seem to be leading pack in that category.....

Some of us don't get our political views from cartoons...nor Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, etc.
