Yo Eggman,
I take it that when you say you should look stylish, you're talking about the way you skate and not the way you dress.

Ok, I need my two cents.... Music cannot destroy the longboard "scene". Just because somebody likes hard core tunes, does not mean that everybody is suddenly going to start wearing three quarter length sleve shirts.(you all arn't too young to remember three quarter length heshin shirts are you?)
I do agree that longboarding is all about FUN.
I also think it is very important to look stylish when you skate. If you look stylish, then other people will say "hey, that looks like a lot of fun" and maybe they will try it. However, it is no reason not to skate with somebody cause they look dorky when they ride. We were all that way at some point....
As far as music... Are there any Leftover Salmon or String Cheese Incident fans out there? Oh yeah, what do you think of the new Primus album "anti-pop"?

Alvin got the point!
I doesnt like the new-schoolers. I my self are not popular riding my board. I ride my longboard because I like it. I like the wind, the free fealing. I`ve been spitted on, beaten up because of my longboard

I agree with Alvin! The depressing metal-music is destroying the longboard-skating. It makes longboarding into an aggressive new-school style!

D.T. I agree with you completely with the response that you gave Alven. People should listen to whatever they want too, and people shouldnt just listen to one type of music. That makes for a bad person. I too listen to a super wide variety of music ranging from trance to concert.

Since my previous post will probally be erased, heres the main point,
I AM SO SICK OF IMAGE!
ImAgE is the knot im my stomach, i rather puke than give into this wretched propaganda. the industry pushes it in there ads and products which start off in magazines and shops, than is taken home to its new found feeble minded servants that act as the indirect tools of the industry. the statements of labling something old school or thats so new school is NOT skating. When i skate i dont think about what i'm wearing or what music i just listened to or if the board i ride is cool or trendy.
These types of things DONT matter
What DOES matter is how much fUn you are having.
The point of bombing hills, skateparks, bowls, vert, or sidewalk skating is to have FUN not look cool, if looking cool is why you skate then you have self-esteem issues and should seek help. I will skate with anyone no matter how good or bad, how experienced or inexperienced, how old or young, NEW SCHOOL or OLD SCHOOL; as long as your having FUN...thats all thats important. i have been lucky enough to skate with all kinds of guys (and girls) from some of the best stand up and luge guys to the local groms that live up the street. and i'll tell you i've had more fun going down small hills with 10 year olds on "horizontally challenged" decks while i'm the only one on a longboard, than with skating downhill with SOME pros who only want to skate if there is money or cameras involved.
SKATE 4 FUN

Alvin, Are you trying to preach? you dont know me I never once mentioned anything about being sad, i am extremly happy...but when it comes to music, my taste is quite broad. i have over 120 cds 20 records, 30 or so tapes. everything from Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gelispe to groups like the Doors, Hendrix, Led Zepplen to old school punk like Black Flag, Minor Threat, Rudimnatary Peni, Adolecents, Circle Jerks, to Bob Marley, Eek-a-Mouse, Israel Vibrations, Natural Vibrations, etc. i also listen to some 80s, blues, rave/techno, mariachi, and celtic .... the only music i cant stand is country, the glam-fag rocknroll bands of the early to mid 80s, 90% of rap, and what you call "new school" punk which i believe should be called for what its worth Bubble Gum Punk.
I dont want to listen to a bunch of dorks that whine about why their girlfriend dumped them, or some over the hill trash band that paints their face and uses fireworks and other pyrotechnics to mask their pitiful music, or rap come on people like Puff Daddy, he labeled himself the black sinatra, what the hell is that, he has no talent unless you considering taking other peoples music and changing a few words then calling it your own, in writing thats considered plagerism. yesterday i saw one of the most pathetic sights, a car load of cheerleaders bumpin Tupac... i'm sure these upper class rich girls can relate to killing and robbing, pimps and ho s and slanging drugs to feed their family...and Alvin hardcore and metal doesnt make you sad, but i know country does, i mean i love listening to a guy tell me how his truck broke down, his girl left him, and his dog ran away...
as far as whats old and new school i dont think you can call one person old school and the next new just on the music they listen to. i like to skate agressivly so i listen to agressive music before i skate. i like to skate fast so i listen to fast music before i skate.END OF STORY.

I can`t see how you can listen to groups like Slayer and stuff like that. That kind of music is so depressing,,, you can`t be sad and aggressive when longboard,, that`s new-school style! Trash all your depressing metal-albums and start listening to rock! (fu manchu +++) Rock gives you real energy,, happy energy. I promise you that the day you flush those friggin` albums down the toilet, you will feal great!
So you see: Don`t be aggressive when sidewalk-surfing.(IT`S SO NEWSCHOOL!)
Alvin!
