I know that Hugh is very close to defining "blue moon". I just can't remember the specifics. Wasn't the "blue moon" a second full moon during harvest? It's killing me, 'cuz I used to know this.

I was definately told that the massive, devastating eruption of vesuvius (a volcano), put so much ash in the sky that it hung around for a week or more, making the moon appear blue. Apparently this doesn't happen often, hence the phrase!!

Second opinion on origin goes to farmers alamanac which uses it as a label for the third full moon in a season that has four of them.
However, the two in a month seems to pre-date the alamanac by several hundred years... HR

MC5 INVENTED PUNK AND HEAVY METAL ALL AT ONCE. YOU GUYS SHOULD CHECK OUT JOHN PEEL'S SHOW ON THE BBC WORLD SERVICE RADIO. HE'LL PLAY EVERYTHING FROM SABBATH TO MILES DAVIS VIA THE FALL. I MET HIM ONCE AND ASKED HIM WHY HE WAS STILL PLAYING RECORDS ON THE RADIO AFTER NEARLY 40 YEARS AND HE SAID -AND I QUOTE "YEAH, IT DOES GET BORING BUT I'M LOOKING FOR ANOTHER TEENAGE KICKS" HE'S RIGHT YOU KNOW, THE GREATEST ROCK'N'ROLL SONG OF ALL TIME AND STILL NO-ONE HAS COME CLOSE.

Yes that's right, it was bands like Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers that kicked off punk.
I'm into grunge too forgot to mention, Pixies etc. There's a song of theirs (Ed is Dead?) about a girl with no fear of cars riding in stupid bliss, and of a guy 'kicking his strand-cruiser'

I reckon the Ramones laid the foundation for all good noise, The Sex Pistols added good lyrics, then Black Flag, Circle Jerks and the Germs etc added skateboarding. Yeah, punk rock in its first simple form was an american invention, but like anything, theres a lot more people who deserve some recognition than you actually hear about. Through out history basic rock n, roll seems to lose sight and get too comercial, too fill of crap etc etc and punk rock is the reinvention of grass roots, no bullshit rock n, roll, stripped back to a pure, fun, human form. This is what we have been experiencing over the last few years. Ever wondered why skateboarding and punk rock go so well together..theres a lot more to it than you may think.

Mr. Bungle rules!! I just got a Tommy Guerrero and DJ Gadget compilation CD called 24 inch, and it's super soulful and groovy. All the artwork and photography was done by Natas Kaupas. Skaterock has evolved.

Hey Herbn, You say you like Al Jourgeson's stuff, huh? Have you heard LARD? It's basically Ministry with Jello Biafra (of the Dead Kennedys) on vocals. Lemme tell ya, Lard rocks my world.
Praise the Lard.

Oh ,so much good noise,Lots of old stuff that's gotten fresh again,Led Zepplin(grungier bluzier stuff,Physical Graffitti)there's also some early seventies late sixties stuff that was before my time that i heard on a good car sound system recently, that's definitely worth adding to my play list, you know good driving tunes.Heard "Anarchy in the U.K." the other day for the first time in a long time, that was cool, absence makes the tunes sound cooler, heard some new "punk" some of that's good. Marilyn Manson should cover Anarchy in the U.K. that would be cool!I like Frontline Assembly,Limpbizkit, anything by Alien Jorgenson(Revolting Cocks ect), Alien Sex Fiend,Rob Zombie, a lot of techno/ambient;Drum Club,Future Sounds of London,Bill Laswell,There's rap with cool lyrics and beats,Emenem is better than just his hits,i don't generally buy hiphop/rap discs, just tune to college or non commercial radio every so often, there are a few good stations like that around New York, some share transmiters,so they have certain hours they broadcast then they go off and a different station goes on,i guess cali and other metropolitan areas have this also, but a quick surf down the car radio "dial" ,in a good reception area and you may find something cool. Some cheesy mainstream r+b/rap stations have good latenight/early morning shows, some DJ'd.I'm not really into napster, damn didn't have speakers on my computer until recently, and guess what?now that they're hooked up, havn't gotten them to work! This post reminds me,i need to buy a power antennea for my shop radio.

Fast, Aggressive, Straight-Edge Hardcore always get's me pumped to SK8. Bands like Youth of Today, In My Eyes, Reach the Sky, Insted, and Gorilla Biscuits also get's me pumped. When I want to sk8 mellow, I listen to some poppy stuff, like Big Drill Car. Suicidal and Aggression also get me wanting to go and slide some big hills.

Hey Winston, Props on the Brothers Johnson tip, I searched Napster for "Streetwave" and struck gold. Definitely a funky night skating tune. Thanks for the lead.
