Im looking for a longboard that would be good for carving/riding down hill.... I plain to use this board on trails which I used to take my bike on, these trails have lots of ruts/bumps etc. I was planning on using dirtwheels, the ones they sell in CCS and a longboard, could anyone recommend something...I dont really know, I've got a newskool and I like to take it to the top of my street which is about 2-3 miles long and speed down the hill. I feel out of control sometimes and think with a longboard I would have better control. Not intrested in a longboard for doing tricks, just carving and speedy turns.

Why do so many shortboarders give skating a bad name. I bet there are some longboarders that do it to, but why do most people think skateing is bad.

Eggman, I got most of my old issues of "Skateboarder" too, they are great with insane photos! Talk to Chris at Nose Wheelie about copy write infringement, he has old shots like that on his web site with a disclaimer saying something like "If these photos are copywritten, please let me know and I will remove them". In the late 80's I almost threw all my "Skateboarders" away during a move, today I am soooo glad I didn't, I love looking at them! When are we going to have a dedicated longboard mag made with the same style and talent that they made "Skateboarder" magazine? The annual issue that "Surfer" publications releases is okay, but its all new skool, how about covering the longboard scene as well as some indepth history stories. Are you reading this Birdman? You could influence them! Spankys babbled on enough....

Hey kiddies, Speaking of Skateboarder Mag....I just dug up three old issues of skateboarder, Vol 2 num 1 and some other ones circa 1977. They had been in a box for 20 years in the attic. Anyway, they are super cool and killer articles and picts. What are the laws about scanning them and putting them on the net? They are really cool and the picts are amazing, the guys get so low it is insane. If anyone knows the answer, let me know, because everyone should be able to check them out. Ok, peace out and later late.

I just thought that everybody would like to know that the new SkateBoarder Magazine is out. Like the one they published last year, it's an oversized Annual Collector's Issue. Okay, it's mostly people ollieing short boards and the only longboard stuff is the Sector 9 and Gravity ads, but there are a few vintage pictures and a short article on the history of skateboard. Plus, the best thing in my opinion is a short interview between Bill Dorr and Tony Hawk. And who is Bill Dorr? Well, he's an old school skater, and by that I mean that he's in his seventies, born in 1925. He's not just riding flatland with his arms out like a dork. He's riding a ramp. And I thought I was skategeezer at 35.

You want a great deal on a sector9? At the warped tour, they had a booth and were selling Cosmic II completes for $75.00! So if the warped tour is coming to your town bring the extra cash in case the booth is there too.

This isn't really a review of any particular board, it's just a quick note from all of us here at Sector 9 to say thank you to everyone for their support. We are stoked to see that so many people are rediscovering the soul of skateboarding. If you're at this site, then you know what it's all about. Let's keep the revolution Rollin'.
Want to win a Sector 9? Stop by the Sector 9 Web site to enter our monthly drawing.......(sorry for the spam, but I did just update the site, so maybe you can roll by and take a look. Thanks)

X-games... sigh. Yeah, they're clueless... Downhill has been here too long to get dissed... It had better be here next year. I'm all for pushing it into MTV's games, which were WAY better than ESPN's for skateboarding in general... At least they didn't explain what trucks were Every Single Time Somebody Did A Grind "There he is, doing a 50-50 grind, that's grinding on the metal part of the trucks (what other parts are there?) and trucks are what connects the wheels to the board..." "He's doing a 360 kickflip, that's a kickflip, flipping with the front foot, turning the board in a 360 manner..." y.....ep. Sigh. Downhill kicked ass, though!!!! I'm damn proud of our showing, and I don't think that they will have much problems keeping it for next year... didn't seem as if the MX got the response... I'm all for human powered sports, myself. Well, have a great damn skating day!!!!!! Peace.

Scheckey, very well said, bro! Cudos to you and all who see the glass as being half full, rather than half empty! The Spanksters been a little ornery from time to time...but I have always meant it in fun. Spanky crash's his board and does stupid shit just like everyone else, my message is simply "Lets have fun with this, poke a little fun at ours selves and each other." Remember, this is just a sport/hobby/art, the world does not revolve around it. Don't get me wrong, I love it as much as anyone, I am just saying lets leave the mud slingng to politicians and keep longboarding positive and fun. If you don't like a deck, then sell it to someone else, but then tell us about the products you do like. Okay, Spankys getting off the soap box! Again, well said Sheckster!

Tikiman, in response your post on the deck review board, maybe if you just reviewed a deck instead of bashing one your post would last. This site is not about who rules and who dosent, (goto any short board site for that) its about giving and reciving info on long-boarding.. Dont like sector 9? Get a deck and write an honest review. But you dont need to whine about this site getting money from sector and killing negative posts, when its your lack of tact and maturity thats doing it. Posts like yours arent doing anything to further longboarding or help anyone so the people who run this site probably take them off to avoid flame wars and the like. Yours is not the only post to be killed either. I have seen a few overly-negatave posts killed and reposted in a less harsh way and stay on. So rather bitch and moan about some product you dont like, why not just tell us about yours? Leave the "I rule and you dont" crap to the 12 and 13 year olds in the skate park.

Does anyone know how I can obtain a set of e.Xkate trucks (any shops on the West Coast or wherever through which I could order them)? I've had no luck getting any response from them directly. Also, there are no dealers in Denver, CO that I know of, and The Big Hit (a shop in Breckenridge, CO) tried to order some for me, and also didn't get anywhere. Help!

It was cool to see Beau Brow in the stand up events. Does anyone know why Roger Hickey wasn't there? It would also be neat to see a slalom or dual GS race for the future. any comments?

Scheckey, you are right, speedboarding is not new and not some cross training excercise for street luge. The lugers would rather speedboard, for the most part, than luge. Luge came about at downhill skateboarding events in the late 70's at Signal Hill. Mark, you are absolutley right, the guys you mentioned and others paved the way for luge, and pioneered speedboarding. As far as I am concerned speedboarding is way above lugeing in technical, skill, and balls! Luge should be a secondary event to speedboarding, after all, if it were'nt for speedboarding, luge would not exsist. Long live speedboarding! Now...lets get a nation wide comp going!

Wow! finally X games is thinking about adding stand up skateboarding to competition. Is it really necessary for people to vote it in? I thought John Hutson, Goldberg, Hickey, and Guy Gundy paved the way for the luge. I think they should just add it in next year as well as slalom. I say they should ditch the motorcross demo event. I remember when Action Now mag came out and I hated it when Motocross took up the space of what could of been rad skateboarding. Anyone know why the In's of 98 X are dark pads/clothes? It seems rather odd to me that they all want to look the same!

Heres my 2 scents worth on the X Games. Did any one else here the announcer ask if stand up speed boarding was "a new sport or just cross training for luge riders"? Uhm.. WHAT? Speed boarding is probably oldre than him. The other thing that bugs me is we had to sit through a 5 minute thing on some mountain climber but got NO info on the boarders set ups. Good event though. I hope to see it go all the way.
